@@jhvhest They also mentioned SD card only but I was told that Octapi works via the micro USB cable so you aren't limited to just the SD card. Is this true? If not that may be a deal breaker for me. I read about the Z axis calibration issue (for some people, not all) but seems extremely easy to check and manually adjust if the auto alignment doesn't work so I know to check for it also so that it doesn't hurt. Lastly, the bearings are noisy and can produce a lot of heat but that can be fixed by buying some better bearings and using some super lube. As long as you don't buy 10 dollar bearings off Amazon because hey are the same, or worse, quality wise as the stock bearings.
I haven't bought a printer in months, but whenever I do I come back to this channel knowing that there will be clear and well instructed information for it. Thanks for the hard work Aurora.
I love Monday reviews. Another solid SOVOL product from what I see. I just got notified that my Bambu Lab XC 1 that you recommended is in route from CA. So this isn't in my immediate future. My wife has already threatened me with a divorce if I buy another printer...I'm going to hate to see her go :)
Nice video as always. For z-align: On the mk3s the cable is much lower, so the x/z top out on left and right simultainly, aligning z-hight. On the SV-06 the cable of the printheads top out - so no alignment left and right at all. To fix it, you simply might add clamps to the left and right z-rods at the top, so the x/z joints top out before the cable does. Two other cons in comparison to the mk3s+: - No filament autoload (I realy like the internal filament sensor of the mk3s+) - No MMU-Support (but you might add Klipper and Enraged Rabit Carot Feeder) As Creality and Sovol share a lot, support for the Sonic Pad would be fantastic. It would help to compensate the two cons I mentioned.

Hi Aurora Tech. I noticed that when you guys assembled the printer forgot to guide the extruder cables through the blue tabs on the mounting bracket. I saw the cables touching on the top of the frame while doing the Z alignment. Maybe that threw the alignment off and that's why you where getting one side lower or higher than the other one. I just checked and the assembly instructions show the cable routed through those two blue tabs. Due to how the extruder was designed this seems like a critical step to avoid obstruction of movement by the extruder cables. Love your channel by the way. Very detailed and professional reviews, you guys should have more subscribers.
One of the best reviews of ANYTHING, clear, concise, and with examples. Vary well done, and I am in the market for a pinter to support my Prusa i3 Mk3!
Hello @AuroraTech I just bought one for amazing 205€!!!!! Its a Awesome printer and the only problem i have are the linear rod noisy bearings.. YOU ARE MAKING AWESOME REVIEWS!!!! I really like your vids and keep going!!!!
Mine is working great. I adjusted the z level manually with blocks first then let it do its thing and checked again. Working on pushing speeds with it now. Only issue I have is the magnetic sheet is dead, but sovol is being super helpful with it. I'm just going to replace it and get a double sided PEI sheet anyways. There is a couple of different firmwares out already, the demon firmware is going to go in tonight. Great video!!
Careful going too fast. I installed Klipper and tested at 100mm/sec. Those stepper motors get really hot and the hot end can't handle high speeds if you are using higher temp materials
I'm sure aftermarket firmware will come out that will hopefully fix all these issues. Though I'm really glad they used 2209 stepper drivers and not 2208 or 2225. Make sure to put a little lube on those rails, so they continue to run smooth.
@jesuswarner5102 bear in mind this is my first printer but for the most part, yes. I've been printing daily for a week and some of the stuff has come out awesome. I did spend a lot of time with an auto bed leveling issue that seems to be common on this printer but its worked out in the end. I am satisfied for the price it cost me its pretty worth it. Its got better specs and upgrades for the same price as an ender 3 v2
@jesuswarner5102 just took a look at the kp3s pro and honestly id say go for the sovol if its your first, there just is a lot more people using it so it will be easier to solve issues and get help. Also another point is that the kp3s does not seem to have any auto bed leveling so thats at least another $30 added to the price as its a requirement for any decent printer imo
When i launch RUclips the first thing I do is see what new videos you have. You and your brother are doing an amazing job at publishing informative videos for those at all technical levels. I have 5 printers, and of those, my most recent two were after watching your reviews. I agree with @Emil Cost, i'm surprised your subscriptions aren't in the six figures, I tell all my techie friends about your channel. Keep up the stellar videos.... Thank you Aurora Tech
To make sure bed leveling is enabled (if you plan to use it) for Marlin it's a good idea to put M420 S1 into the starting G-code somewhere after G28. Most printers are set up to turn bed leveling compensation off when homing with G28, although some may choose to enable leveling after G28. The only way to know whether your printer has this behavior is to load or create a valid mesh, then send G28 followed by M420 V to see whether leveling has been automatically enabled. For the most part the printer seems like a very good value and quality. The main problems can be solved by a firmware upgrade, especially by enabling automatic Z alignment that uses the probe to measure the bed distance at each side instead of homing to the top, and also enabling the Z Probe Offset Wizard.
An excellent review. I'm not at all interested in the printer, but your delivery is so informative and concisely laid out, that I watch to broaden my knowledge about other issues beyond my experience level. Great job!
Forgive me - you have a great channel and very sophisticated knowledge of your subjects and professional delivery. Everything top notch, but I can't escape the fact that you appear to be 9 years old. It's surreal
I've worked in China, at least six times. It is very difficult to guess a young person's age. I went to a nightclub in Chengdu and thought all the natives were 16 years old.
I appreciate your video, it is very accurate. Just a small remark: I'm not expert at G-code, so it would be helpful if the modified Prusa G-codes for SV06 would be somewhere available. Thanks
Another great video. This looks like a great printer. I have seen a few other reviews, but they didn't feel the same. I like that you keep it simple. It certainly isn't the greatest thing out there, but it seems to have great results. I think I will have to order one. I need to beat my Ender 3 v2 back into working order. Gonna binge some more of your videos. Keep up the great work
Amazing review I've been eying this printer lately. To mostly print TPU. You really printing TPU at 60mms. That's amazing that's double what I print at on my SV01. I'm intrigued
Your presentation and discussion are outstanding. I got mine for the $239 and have had great success with everything except some SUNLU filament which I roughed up to get to feed. I'll try your otion of making sure that the first few inches are straight.
The z-axis bed leveling was reported in an issue with the creality board they basically copied because it doesn't have separate z-axis drivers, just two separate connectors. Someone mentioned that in a review of the creality 2.4.7 board and almost off by the same amount which I was looking to get for my SV03, but I would rather have two different drivers for z, and I want the option to use dual extruders. I am looking at different boards, like makerbase and the mellow fly, which are very similar. chances are they used that screen because it is well supported in Marlin, and everyone has issues with the proprietary drivers used in the color screens. Plus it was an off-the-shelf component. Anyway, not the first review of yours I have seen but I really do like them. :)
I can't shake the thought that Sovol's hardware engineers, manufacturing staff, and material buyers are all really crafty, skilled people. To have so few hardware issues when they took a $1000 printer, made a couple interesting improvements, and then sold it as a $300 printer...that's excellent (never mind the several other very good printers they've made). If I ever sold, broke, or otherwise gave up on my heavily modified Ender 3, I would absolutely consider an SV06 to take its place as the "do everything surprisingly well" printer in my inventory.
I've been using my SV06 for over a month, and while it's a decent cheap printer, it is no where near a Prusa in terms of quality. The bed is horribly warped and not adjustable. One of my z lead screws came bent and I can see it wobble when I raise the z axis. Cheap stepper motors get really hot if you try printing fast. I had to order new bearings because the stock ones make a crunch noise out of the box, even when lubed. That said, for the price, it's not bad. It is very easy to take the print head off and change parts, and nozzles are very easy to change because the heat block is secured with screws keeping it from spinning
@@mikeb1596 Did you have any heat issues after replacing the bearings? I've read that the bearings are the main issue is not only because of heat but noise also but apparently (from what I've read and seen on RUclips), replacing the bearings and adding some lubricant resolves those issues for the most part.Since I know the z axis leveling doesn't work that will be the first thing I do manually in case it doesn't line up so not an issue for me (mostly because I'm aware of it). Personally, I would have returned it if the bed was warped and the screws were messed up as I haven't really read that elsewhere. A few people had the bed warping issue but were returned or SOVOL sent them a replacement bed. At the same time I e read SOVOL support can be "fun" to deal with also. I was debating between this and the ELEGOO Neptune 3 Pro or Plus but settled on this due to more upgrade options and a higher printing temperature. That and ELEGOO is only shipping directly through their website and they are out of stock and I do t trust their "expected" shipping date either. That, and it's less upgradable. I'm also eyeballing the plus for the extra size and nicer touch screen although the touch screen isn't a big deal to me but it's a plus I've read that misum bearings are the best but someone recommended vcb as they are half the costs of the misum for 12 bearings (30 dollars US) and was advised not to order the 10 to 15 dollar bearings off Amazon as they are just as bad as the stock bearings. Lastly, the reviewer mentioned no USB but I read there are zero issues hooking up a raspberry pi with octapi using the micro USB port next to the SD card slot. If this is true and USB micro can't work with a octapi that's a deal breaker for me because they place those SD cards in terrible places so I want to avoid being limited to SD cards only. Thanks in advance for any input you may have, especially after having it for a few months to get a better take on it.
First of all, let me just thank you for you content. I've learned so much watching your videos. I have a Prusa Mk3s+. It was great for it's time but it's very expensive and took me over four days to build. The gummy bears didn't help. Then the MMU2S was faulty. I believe a Creality or this Sovol are good alternates to Prusa, IMHO. I got the X1Carbon/AMS and I no longer use my Prusa, I'm waiting for Prusa to implement LIDAR and come up with a Mk3S+ conversion to a Mk 4 kit. The auto-bed leveling is great however, the Z offset leveling going from PLA to PETG is problematic, so I would only do PLA on my PRUSA. With my X1 Carbon, I've printed PLA, PETG, and TPU without issue. IMHO, it is by far the best affordable printer on the market. I'm also consider the SOVOL v04 IDEX. I'm waiting on the next phase of 3D printers which will implement LIDAR as Bambulabs has done.
Because my english is not so fluent: Can you please write down the best sequence process to level the z-axis? And could you share a good cura profile for the SV06 please? Winter Greetings from Flanders, Belgium!
I would love to see as this printer is updated it's going to deter some sales I guess this is what is available without Josef prusa testing the crap out of it and using solid built parts in certain areas
I've not been able to get the start gcode to work properly using PrusaSlicer. I've removed G80 in the start gcode as you've recommended but the SV06 starts by homing to the to the center of the bed, then drags a line of dribble to the front edge of the bed, then homes x/y/z again but this time to the front left corner, purges a line (like MK3S does), and then starts. This issue of starting at the center of the bed and dribbling a line seems to be in the firmware. Did you encounter this issue when you made this video? Thanks
Print quality can only be judged by shining the light from the top down across the sides. Differences in the layers then show up as shadows between the layers. Shining the light from the side to view the side will hide all the layer quality issues. Almost all printer reviews light the side from the side and hide the actual layer problems. Low cost printers have poor quality fans and bearings that will fail after a few prints. If you place no value on your time, and you enjoy repairing printers and fixing issues, buy a low cost printer. If you just want to make 3D prints, buy the Prusa. It uses the highest quality Misumi bearings and high quality motors. The printer just works. I started using a low cost printer and then bought a second low cost printer as the first would fail frequently. I recently bought the Prusa and it just works.
If each motor of the Z axis will be controlled by its own driver, then you can use the alignment of the X axis beam using the "G34" command. This I, for example, did immediately for my KP5L :)
After watching a number of reviews, I decided to buy this machine. I ordered it tonight, as I needed another printer. Currently using a Genius pro that I am thrilled with. I want something with an all metal hotend however. I hope this machine lives up to the hype. I am not a pro with this stuff, and being comfortable with the one I have makes it a bit worrisome to try one I am unfamiliar with. I also found that Cura has no option for this machine in the add a new printer area. I guess we'll see what happens. Any advice on the slicer stuff would be much appreciated.
so right after my 25pt bed leveling, I did the probe z-offset and needed to go down around 6.5mm until just scraping a piece of paper. the nozzle crashed and dug into build sheet. did I do the z-offset incorrectly, and how?
Interesting as always Great to hear some concrete test with this printer. It is looking so promising Is there a Filament OUT sensor too? Thanks for sharing your experiences with all off us :-)
Excellent review as usual for your channel! Wonderful information and format. Where do you recommend buying the Eryone and other filaments you feature? Thank you.
Congratulations on the video!! On the Sovol SV06, How can I configure end-g in prusalicer when printing in samelayer, blocking engines when changing color. I'm using Marlin (legacy) firmware. Thanks
For the Prusa slicer you only removed the gcode g80? You mention something about the starting gcode in the cons section. @15.01. Thanks for you help! My printer comes tomorrow and i wanna use the Prusa slicer for my first print.
can you start a print, then crank speed to 200% in the menu like on a prusa, and does it handle it ok like on a prusa? if so, it sounds like a crazy good value
So do you think Prusa worth the extra money quality-wise or a Sovlo SV06 can reach that quality with some minor tweaks ? To make my question simpler: I need the best quality I can reach , so should I get a Prusa or an SV06 in your opinion ?
Hi. Enjoy your videos. Extremely qualified and filled with tons of information. Well done! Would you do a klipper install tutorial video for this machine? Many thanks in advance.
Nice video! Just started using PrusaSlicer with my SV06 and noticed that the bed and nozzle heat at the same time. It would be great if you would post instructions on how to heat these items sequentially as is done in Sovol's version of Cura. Any suggestions?
@@AuroraTech was hoping that maybe the next release of a Sovol board will have dual stepper drivers for the Z axis to be able to use the G34 alignment option.
What the heck, all the issues i had with my printer are listed here. I thought it's only me who struggles with that stuff, but it obviously are design flaws. But after all, fortunately, all those issues are easily managable if you know them. I would recommend the printer to anyone who wants to save a few bucks
Aurora, your videos are amazing. I have to ask, do you still have the gcode you used for your Prusa benchie? Could you share it with us? I just received this printer (my first one) and would like to print it as a test, for comparison. Thank you.
Would a reverse Bowden (to prevent filament backlash) be possible with this kind of hotend? Either way, looks like a really solid printer for the price. I love not seeing V-wheel rollers :D
Was the micro SD card negative because it wasn't full size because I've been told by many people octaprint works just fine when hooked up to the micro USB input next to the micro SD card slot as long as you make sure it's a data cable and not a power only micro USB cable?
In your opinion which design is better. The Prusa mk3 design or the Creality cr-10/ender 3 design? It seems you can get either for about the same money.
wow I just came across your video what an intelligent and well spoken young lady. Very informative and excellent video.. Ill give you a subscribe and like. Keep up the great work :)
Hello, I hope someone can help me. I have the problem that I can't print Pla from "Das Filament" with my SV06 :( After a while, the extruder "scrapes" the filament at one point in such a way that it is finally no longer fed. I had no problems with other filament manufacturers. What could that be? Thanks in advance :)

That and ELEGOO is only shipping directly through their website and they are out of stock and I do t trust their "expected" shipping date either. That, and it's less upgradable. I'm also eyeballing the plus for the extra size and nicer touch screen although the touch screen isn't a big deal to me but it's a plus
I've read that misum bearings are the best but someone recommended vcb as they are half the costs of the misum for 12 bearings (30 dollars US) and was advised not to order the 10 to 15 dollar bearings off Amazon as they are just as bad as the stock bearings.
That would be great if what Bambu was actually using on their printers was Lidar.
Hey for the Gcode you say you are removing G80, but it doesnt clearly show what you remove. Can you post the Gcode string that you edited around 5:12
Because my english is not so fluent: Can you please write down the best sequence process to level the z-axis? And could you share a good cura profile for the SV06 please? Winter Greetings from Flanders, Belgium!
It’s a pity Aurora does not react…
Wonder how the auto bed leveling would do with an all glass bed. After this video I thinking about getting one! Well done.
Nice review 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Would you recommend the SV05 or SV06 for a first printer?
Great review, thanks!
I would love to see as this printer is updated it's going to deter some sales I guess this is what is available without Josef prusa testing the crap out of it and using solid built parts in certain areas
Thank you great video very informative
I've not been able to get the start gcode to work properly using PrusaSlicer. I've removed G80 in the start gcode as you've recommended but the SV06 starts by homing to the to the center of the bed, then drags a line of dribble to the front edge of the bed, then homes x/y/z again but this time to the front left corner, purges a line (like MK3S does), and then starts. This issue of starting at the center of the bed and dribbling a line seems to be in the firmware. Did you encounter this issue when you made this video? Thanks
Awesome review!
If you use the air cleaning machine, you will get an air flow, which cools the ABS and causes warping. But nice test as always!! 😀👍
👍🖒👍@Aurora ;
( I wish you and yours a Merry Christmas )
Hello, cute jacket! Maybe it's as cold there as it is here ☃️
I love your cons section 🤣
If each motor of the Z axis will be controlled by its own driver, then you can use the alignment of the X axis beam using the "G34" command. This I, for example, did immediately for my KP5L :)
Are the steppers independent?
@@RobertManzano No, they are not independent.
Great review! Can you link that comgrow air purifier? My workshop is in the basement and ventilation is a bit of a challenge.
Sure, here you are:

good printer, going to pick one up!
Hows your experience with the printer? Im thinking about getting one too
@@politecnico_socratico love this machine
The real advantage is ease of assembly. Prusa’s greatest lack of innovation, in my opinion, has been in simplifying the assembly
Incredible review as always.
Can you review the SV06 Plus?
so right after my 25pt bed leveling, I did the probe z-offset and needed to go down around 6.5mm until just scraping a piece of paper. the nozzle crashed and dug into build sheet. did I do the z-offset incorrectly, and how?
Interesting as always
Great to hear some concrete test with this printer. It is looking so promising
Is there a Filament OUT sensor too?
Thanks for sharing your experiences with all off us :-)
Excellent review as usual for your channel! Wonderful information and format. Where do you recommend buying the Eryone and other filaments you feature? Thank you.
I need your help please...I am about to buy my first printer...which one do you recommend...1) sovol sv06 or 2)ender3 s1(not pro version)?
where did you find that restraction settings the manual i have doesn't seem to have it?
Aurora, do you intend to test the Sovol-SV 07 Klipper? Thanks.
Congratulations on the video!! On the Sovol SV06,
How can I configure end-g in prusalicer when printing in samelayer, blocking engines when changing color.
Can you really print at 275 ºC with the stock hotend? My manual says to use it bellow 260 ºC
can you start a print, then crank speed to 200% in the menu like on a prusa, and does it handle it ok like on a prusa? if so, it sounds like a crazy good value
Many thanks in advance.
would it be possible to use the prusa MMUS with the sovol sv06, or would I be better off getting the sv04 for the multiple extruder?
Are you planning to review the SV06 Plus?
have you tried printing wood filament with this? how did it go?
If it didnt work well, are there any other printers / mods you would recomend?
Nice video! Just started using PrusaSlicer with my SV06 and noticed that the bed and nozzle heat at the same time. It would be great if you would post instructions on how to heat these items sequentially as is done in Sovol's version of Cura. Any suggestions?
I'm curious about the carpet/fabric on your workbench - is this for sound absorbtion or similar?
No, it just because the surface of my old Lifetime white rubber table is terrible, so I use a rug to cover it.
Great review.... How was the fan noise and overall noise compared to prusa or other printers?
Aurora could you pin the edited start and end gcode you have for the svo6?
As Andrew Hayes states, the 2nd Z driver would allow the use of G34 Z alinement.
Not on this printer as both motors are controlled by one stepper driver.
Is it relevant to change the "G-code flavor" (under "Printer settings) from default "Marlin (Legacy)" to "Marlin 2"?
Which firmware version were you provided? 1.9.2A has numerous issues and should lnot have been included on sd card.
Aurora, your videos are amazing. I have to ask, do you still have the gcode you used for your Prusa benchie? Could you share it with us? I just received this printer (my first one) and would like to print it as a test, for comparison. Thank you.
It's my girl AT!
Would a reverse Bowden (to prevent filament backlash) be possible with this kind of hotend? Either way, looks like a really solid printer for the price. I love not seeing V-wheel rollers :D
Why is my g code completely different for the detached profile than in the video?
Was the micro SD card negative because it wasn't full size because I've been told by many people octaprint works just fine when hooked up to the micro USB input next to the micro SD card slot as long as you make sure it's a data cable and not a power only micro USB cable?
is the sv06 or sv05 better?
In your opinion which design is better. The Prusa mk3 design or the Creality cr-10/ender 3 design? It seems you can get either for about the same money.
My SV06 is rough while homing the X, it will hit it but continue moving longer than it should as if it's crashing. Any idea what the issue could be.
You can adjust the sensitivity of the stepper drivers on the LCD screen to make it work better
wow I just came across your video what an intelligent and well spoken young lady. Very informative and excellent video.. Ill give you a subscribe and like. Keep up the great work :)
Hello, I hope someone can help me.
I have the problem that I can't print Pla from "Das Filament" with my SV06 :(
After a while, the extruder "scrapes" the filament at one point in such a way that it is finally no longer fed. I had no problems with other filament manufacturers. What could that be?
Thanks in advance :)
