    I have both an SV06 and an SV06 Plus (along with 6 other printers). The SV06 is a great printer - once you get it dialed in. It's not fast, but it's reliable. My SV06 Plus, however - at least the example I received - is a dumpster fire - it's got some serious issues and Sovol hasn't been exactly aggressive in helping me get these issues sorted out. The first thing I did was print the pre-sliced Benchy - and it was pretty terrible (tried different PLA's as well). Then I tried the pre-sliced Castle - and it showed the same artifacts. I resliced both files and again, print quality was substandard. I tried other models as well - same artifacting. I've checked belts, sprockets, and bearings, but everything checks out. It seems like any surface pointed at the 3 o'clock to 7 o'clock quadrant of the build plate suffers some pretty serious ringing and cooling artifacts. I'm also noticing that the SV06 Plus is lot noisier (stepper motors) than my SV06. I've sent pictures, emails, descriptions, gcode ... and although I've gotten responses, they've been things like "printing too hot and too fast" (at 40mm/S?). I'm wondering if I have a bad stepper motor or bad driver chip ...

    I have been in love with this machine from day 1!
    I attempted to swap out the stock bearings for drylin bearings and that was the only time that I have had an issue with it.
    The drylin bearings simply didn't have the range of motion that the stock bearings did. And, no matter what I did, the use of them resulted in significant ringing.
    I believe this was caused by the bearings having too much resistance at the beginning of each movement. Once under motion, the ringing disappeared and the lines were perfectly smooth.
    The only other issue I have with this machine, right now, is sharing it with my wife...

    The capability and value of this printer is just crazy. I think the biggest downsides are the card slot location and semi-proprietary nozzle. If they replaced the Pinda with a strain gauge or voron tapper, this would more or less toast the MK4, spec wise at least. Pinda was state of the art 7 years ago, but we have much better options today. As always, your review wonderfully informative, particularly with the recommendations.

    • @kazolar
      @kazolar Год назад

      strain gauge seems to be creating issues for MK4 owners, it's creating a divot in the print surface, creality had released strain gauge based print heads and went away from them, tap would need a bit more engineering to be adopted to a rod based machine, not sure why not just stick to bl-touch for this price point -- it's sufficiently accurate.

    While I wait for Sovol or Elegoo to make a full featured 300X300 mm Klipper machine, it's very tempting to buy the very capable SV06 Plus, add a Klipper pad, do a proper input shaping calibration, and maybe implement better cooling if I need to print fast or overhangs/bridges. The cost of the Klipper pad isn't too bad when considering that it can control a small print farm of up to four SV06 printers so it would be cheap and easy to expand.

    Sovol got a lot right with the SV06 Plus. It's tempting to put Klipper on an SV06 Plus but I'm waiting to see whether Sovol or Elegoo will produce THE Klipper bed slinger. The SV07 has nice features but it should have been the SV06 (and SV06 Plus) with Klipper. The SV07 motion control is a downgrade from the SV06. I completely concur that Sovol should stop using micro SD cards on their printers. That's honestly my only complaint about my SV01. In 2023, I want to send files to the printer using Fluidd/Klipper via WiFi. Sovol and Elegoo are both making Klipper bed slingers with some great features but they're still coming up short in a few key areas. One of the 3D printer manufacturers will market a Klipper bed slinger that checks all of the boxes. I guess I'll wait to upgrade... hopefully not too much longer. SV08 Plus? Neptune 4 Pro Max?
    Thanks for another great review. Your reviews are the best, with plenty of user oriented tests to evaluate performance. Too many people get a review printer and do a lame unboxing video that wastes the viewer's time and doesn't provide much useful information. Your reviews are thorough and very fair.

    Nice video, but I don't think you should derive the CURA settings from the SV06 by simply changing the bed dimensions. Since the two machines have different nozzles, you are not using the SV06 Plus to all of its potential if you leave the speeds at SV06 speed! Very impressed but its a bowdne setup is the only reason id think of trying a sovol or something different but i have 0 issues with the bowden so i dont know if going to a heavier head is worth it? Maybe faster prints slightly due to shorter retractions? I hear it was a huge upgrade for some but they never explanied why.
    But anyway its not a perfect printer either (vyper) , no all metal hot end, so only goes up to 260, but ive printed ABS fine with it in the open maybe thanks to a good bed? Some long ABS prints still warped but with a big enough brim i was able to get rid of it, but orientation helped more. With bad orientation I had a corner lift even with a raft, it pitched a tent lifting the raft up in one spot , amazing amount of force must of been concentrated there and even more amazing it didnt lift the surrounding raft. An enclosure would be ideal but not entirely necessary like some think with ABS.

      Well, $299 is more reasonable and you'll probably see them go for 279 soon!
      The price of badslinger is dropping drastically all the time now, Sovol came out with their machines at the wrong time.

    This printer seems like a great deal at 349...given the build volume. I guess you are restricted in upgrades but this looks like a great Prusa alternative for people who don't care about upgrades.

    Its not your fault but this review did not match with the printers they're shipping. The review models I've been seeing have been operating flawlessly with just some design complaints.
    The model I got felt like a kit jist thrown together. All of the screws were lose, the auto leveling sucks especially the z align. I had the pronter for a week and had nothing but oroblems, got 1 good benchy out of it, one of the included light houses i had to scale down really small to print and i got a low poly cat statue printed that i again had to scale down to get to print.
    Thank god i purchased throigh Amazon bc their customer support is ass. Just returned it though amazon

    I would like to know what is your opinion of the Sovol SVO6 compared to the BambuLab X1 Carbon, because I like to print Nylon-composite, Glass field Nylon, and ABS.

    • @AuroraTech
      @AuroraTech  Год назад +1

      I'm afraid that's not a fair comparison. The SV06 Plus is a budget printer with good value, but it's still an open-frame bed slinger with Marlin firmware. The X1C, on the other hand, has the most advanced features, which is way better.

    Buy the Elegoo nept 3 plus now or wait for sovol upgrade announcements? How long do these upgrades take typically for Software upgrades ie klipper to get the 150 mm/s etc

    • @AuroraTech
      @AuroraTech  Год назад +2

      In terms of hardware, the SV06 Plus is better with its linear rods and 300C all-metal hotend. However, currently, it's difficult to find larger diameter nozzles or hardened steel nozzles for Carbon Fiber or other abrasive filament printing.
      The Neptune 3 Plus, on the other hand, has a larger print volume and uses regular MK8 nozzles, which are cheap and easy to buy. However, it only comes with a rubber wheel motion system and a 260C hotend.
      If you only print PLA, PETG, ABS, TPU, and other regular temperature filaments, the Elegoo Neptune 3 Plus would be a better option. If you want to print some engineering-grade filaments (and assume Sovol will support standard Volcano nozzles), then the SV06 Plus is the best option.
      Switching to Klipper requires a SonicPad or any Raspberry Pi compatible device. You just need the printer.cfg and firmware for the printer motherboard. It should take less than 15 minutes. Files shared by existing SV06 users are available online at github.com/bassamanator/Sovol-SV06-firmware.
      It requires you to SSH to the device and find the port ID and update the printer.cfg depending on what you use(SonicPad, SpeederPad, BTT CB1 or something else...)

    Your sv 5 with the sprite excruder how did you get it to work .I tried with no success. Did you use ender software or sovol. When I attempted it it would only excruder the prime line and skirt . Then it would stop excruting filament. Any info would be appreciated along with the stl for your back plate you printed

      If the stepper motor stops once the print starts, there may be a chance that the current of the stepper driver is too low for the new motor.
      In this case, you may need to increase the current by turning the screw next to the stepper driver. To do this, use a multimeter to measure the VREF value and increase it to the same level as the X and Y stepper motors.
      If you need more information on setting VREF, take a look at this article:
      all3dp.com/2/vref-calculator-tmc2209-tmc2208-a4988/
      I just added the link to the 3D-printed plate under the description.

      I had been communicating with the Kokoni team back in Feb this year, and the machine was supposed to arrive by the end of March. However, nothing has shown up since then, and the person I communicated with did not say a word or provide any further updates. So, I may not want to feature their machine anymore due to their poor communication.
