- Hey everyone, we're back with a resort tour! This time, we’re touring around Barcelo Maya Colonial in the Mayan Riviera.
Barcelo Maya Colonial is very centrally located in the Barcelo Grand Maya Resort, it’s super close to the U-Spa, waterpark, and Maya Mall, for those of you looking to get in your workouts and shopping in, and it’s also very close to restaurants located on the resort, and its sister resort Barcelo Maya Tropical. There are also two additional restaurants located in Maya mall for a bit more variety. The pools and the beach are a quick walk from all guest rooms, and there is night-time entertainment at the theatre on resort (shared with Tropical)
Hope you enjoyed our tour, if you liked the video or your found it helpful, hit the thumbs up, and leave us a message or question down in the comments.

Known for its sleepy beach towns, boho-chic boutique hotels, fabulous local cuisine, ancient ruins, and jungle treasures, the Mayan Riviera is still one of the best places to visit in all of Mexico.
Agreed
@@WherewegoingNext FOR WHAT IT IS WORTH: The Premium Level Lounges do not "fully stock" their complementary alcohol bar until the middle of the day. However, there is usually someone in the kitchen area at the back of The Premium Level Lounge & they will bring-out a cart that's laden with MANY bottles of "premium brand" alcohol.
Normally the staff waits until mid-day to "fully stock" the lounge bar & it'll remain available until The Premium Level Office closes.
I'm not sure "WHY" these lounges operate this way. But the staff is very helpful to their Premium Club Guests.
When in need & no wait-staff are present, I usually opt for The Premium Level Bar. 🙂
Best regards from Yucatan Mexico,
Ben
P.S. Your videos on Barcelo Maya Grand Resort are very professional.
Went here last year. Best place I’ve been too. Hotel and resort was incredible. Food was lovely and addicted to palomas now
Thanks for sharing! We loved it too!
The first time we went, it was with my daughter when she was 3 and it was lightly raining and she was dancing and jumping in the fountain area well I was checking us I, I was so adorable so many people gathered around watching her have fun in the rain. Love this place, heading again in Dec
It’s one of our faves! Have a great trip!
Another great tour Andrew and Mona!!
Thank you David 🙏🏻
Thanks so much!
I'll be visiting this location soon. Thank you
You’re welcome! Have a great trip!
Very informative, thanks!👍
Thanks for watching!
Love your videos. Great information and descriptions of the resorts. You mentioned you would be coming out with a video of the Tropical. Will that still be coming out?
Yea we will in the next coming weeks! Stay tuned!
Awesome info
Thanks for watching!
Love your videos very informational and helpful!! How long does it take to walk from pool at Beach to Pool at Palace?
About 10 minutes depending on how fast you walk 👍🏻
Thank you for the reply. We will be staying in a standard room but does the guest services make all the dinner reservations for everyone or just those in the Premium Level? I like to do research on where we are staying so any tidbits of information is greatly appreciated. Please let me know if you have anything else that would be beneficial for us all. Thanks again
I believe guest services can make reservations for anyone 👍🏻 not much more to tell other than have a great trip!
We were there around nba finals time at colonial Jalisco building it’s the best spot close to everything in the resort only negative is the dated rooms but we didn’t stay in our room to often
Thanks for sharing!
@@WherewegoingNext It's very unfortunate that your friends had issues with their room fridge, room phone, etc.
I've stayed at Barcelo Maya Resort more than 20 times...as recently as 2022 & I have reservations for October 2023. Over the decades, I've watched its' expansion. Believe me, I've experienced such issues. But usually, my 2-week stays are perfect.
I assure you, if a guest has an issue & it is unresolved with-in 24 hours, the management wants to know. Even if an ice machine in the corridor isn't working...they will have it repaired or replaced ASAP.
So, for anyone reading my commentary...ALL UNRESOLVED ISSUES CAN BE QUICKLY RESOLVED BY GOING TO THE FRONT DESK & REQUESTING TO SPEAK TO THE HOTEL MANAGER. They all speak English.
Best regards,
Ben
Great video and have been to this resort many times(8). If your looking for a nice ,inexpensive resort, than this place is for YOU. Book it!! Stay at 1 play at 4
Thanks 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Hi there, I love your informative videos. I’m booking a trip to mexico for the end of the month and just don’t know which one to decide on. I’m looking for one with excellent food options (nice fish and mexican food I’m from uk and don’t often get the choice), good waiter service, and lots of activities to do( I would like yoga and other activities all through the day) and then good night time entertainment as we aren’t looking to leave much. Would I be okay to ask your advice on which you think is best?
If you’re looking at a Barcelo resort, I recommend the Barcelo Maya Riviera (adults-only). It has excellent food - lots of selection and great a la carte restaurants 👍🏻 they also have yoga on the beach and various activities throughout the day. There is evening entertainment in the main lobby, as well as at all the other Barcelos on complex (which you have access to as well), plus the Maya mall 👍🏻
Another great resort is the Bahia principe Akumal - good food and excellent entertainment 👍🏻
I hope you didn’t do Barcelo. Run away😌😌😌
Hello. Please let me know how is the beach, and the water? Can you swimming in the water? Does the water have a lot of rocks, and big waves?
The water is usually pretty nice - no rocks. The only thing you might encounter is sargassum on the beach and in the water, which is hard to predict - it’s usually worse in the summer months.
Great videos! We are undecided between Barcelo Complex or Riu Yatacan/Tequila/Playacar? What is your preferred resort and why? Thanks!
We prefer the Barcelo complex. They have a lot of great activities and restaurants 👍🏻
Hey, can you provide some clarity on if there is a shuttle going from the airport to the resort and other way around? Thank you!
@@B.e.c.k.s do you need to book the van?
Is the Yourspa fitness centre included in the all inclusive for Tropical or Colonial clients ? I know the spa part is probably an extra charge.
The gym is free for everyone to use , but the spa services are an extra charge
Regarding the spa, Premium guests get 1 hour per day, is that for everyone staying in the room or just 1 person? Thanks.
Yes everyone in the room 👍🏻
Between the 4 resort is there a premium one or they all have access to everything including drinks and all you can eat
They all have all inclusive food and drinks, but the premium upgrade gives you extra benefits like access to a premium lobby and free room service. The full list of premium benefits is on their website 👍🏻
Did you find any of the American pub food anywhere on the Barcelo resorts, wings, burgers and maybe a great beef-dip?
Yes, they have a sports bar in the Maya mall with some pub food 👍🏻
Hello, I loved the videos on the Barcelo Maya Colonial. Can you please tell me if there are the typical TIME Share folks at the resort who try to sell you on a vacation club membership? I have been accosted by them at other resort and I know you have to be very firm with them. Where is the best place to book your ALaCarte dinners too? What time of year did you make this video? Thanks and keep more info on this resort coming.
If there are time share ppl, we definitely didn’t notice them 🤷🏼♀️ we didn’t experience anyone trying to sell us anything.
We didn’t get to try the ala carte restaurants at this hotel, but we heard the Japanese one at the Maya mall was great 👍🏻 you can ask at check in.
We filmed this video in June, 2022.
I wish someone tell me which hotel has the best safe beach with nice ocean bottom without huge waves and rocks, as it seems to me majority prefer a water with chlorine which I would never understand.
Any of the resorts on Playa Mujeres in Mexico will have a nice beach. Cable beach on Paradise Island, Bahamas is beautiful too 👍🏻
Family with a 6 and 4 year old. Trying to decide between Barcelo Tropical of Bahia Principe Grand Tulum. What would you recommend?
We definitely recommend the Tulum! It has an excellent splash pad, awesome rooms, great restaurants and amazing overall vibes 👌🏻
Thanks for detailed info. For a solo trip, which of the 4 barcelo options would you recommend? It must have access to all sister resorts. Thanks.
We loved the Caribe 👍🏻 it’s central and you can access the Maya Beach, Colonial and Tropical - but not the Maya Riviera or Maya Palace.
@@WherewegoingNext Thanks so much for your response. How long is the walk between resorts if I stay at the Riviera all adult resort? How long is the furthest one from riviera to the palace?
About a 10-15 minute walk along the beach. There’s a shuttle that takes you from resort to resort as well 👍🏻
@@WherewegoingNext Thanks so much! I'm thinking riviera as I love all adult resorts 😊
That’s where we stayed as well and we loved it 👍🏻
Just how formal is the dress wear for the restaurants that require a reservation?
It’s not super formal - as long as you’re not wearing your swimsuit, you’ll be fine 👍🏻😄 ladies can pretty much wear anything and my husband has worn a tshirt, shorts and flip flops and had no issues either 🙌🏻
Thank you!! We are headed there on the 26th and wasn’t sure on what all to pack! I can’t wait!
Have a great trip!
Thanks for the video. Looks like a great place. Heading there next week. Is there an airport tax that you need to pay before leaving the country? 😎😎😎😎😎😎
No, but there is a tourism tax that you pay when you get to the hotel - around $20 USD if I remember correctly. It can be paid by cash or credit card 👍🏻
@@WherewegoingNext Thanks. 36 hours to blast off time.
Do you have a website you could recommend for booking trips ?
We use tripcentral.ca or Expedia 👍🏻
Is there entertainment by the pool during the day?
Yes, they have pool games and usually dance lessons
barcelo colonial/caribe or bahia principe coba?
They’re both great 🙌🏻🙌🏻 but we really liked the Barcelo complex 👍🏻
Do they have more than two restaurants?
You have access to the restaurants at the other 4 Barcelo hotels, just not at Maya Riviera
Has this resort activities for children? Mine is 2 years old
They have a splash pad and a kids club 👍🏻
We would like to stay here, though do guests snorkel here?
You can, although there’s not too much to see in front of Colonial. If you go left on the beach to Barcelo Maya Palace, there is a reef there where you can snorkel with sea turtles!
Did I miss the review of the guest rooms?
It’s coming in the next few weeks 😊
What is across the street?
Public cenote
No shade at the beach. Needs Palapas
🤷🏼♀️
I’m sorry everyone has different experiences, I just went there and I don’t think I would recommend anyone. First of all, they need to upgrade with their key doors to the room, not just me but a lot of people had issues with the door keys everyday. I had to get new keys 4/5 days and the room was good 7 mins away from the lobby. That was extremely frustrating. And cherry on the top, there was a blackout yesterday around 8pm, no electricity, no water. Luckily we had family in Playa del Carmen who came to pick us up, we had to check out early. I couldn’t believe that a huge establishment like Barcelo doesn’t have back up generator. Like WTF ACTUAL. I’ve been to many countries and blackouts are normal but anytime there is generator picks up automatically. Guests only would realize for 1 sec, but that black out continued for hours, God knows how long it took.
I’m sorry to hear you had so many issues 😥
