      Jose Canseco, a former teammate of Rodriguez, said in Roberts' book that he believes Rodriguez has been using steroids since high school.
      "Was he on steroids in high school?" Canseco said in the book, the Daily News reported. "I think probably so. I worked out with him when he was 18. He could lift almost as much as I could."

    ARod's handling of the PED/HOF conversation was perfect...his PR team probably high-fived after the interview. He admits his mistake repeatedly, and lets it be known that he would love to be in the HoF, but if he doesn't get in he's okay with it and knows its his own fault. He then refuses to be the voice of other athletes who have been accused of or proven to have taken PEDs, again saying that he can only speak for himself and that if he doesn't make it to the HOF it's because he has to lie in the bed he made. Finishing the interview by saying that three of his close friends getting in to the HOF makes him feel like a little bit of him also made it was the icing on the cake. Perfect candid responses.

      It didn't "save baseball". You listen to too much sports radio. In business if a company doesn't make more than it did the previous year it's considered a loss, even if said companies product is inferior to years previous or the market doesn't warrant the growth. PEDs made baseball a lot more lucrative for the owners and the players. It would still be around today without Sosa, bonds, McGwire etc. the fact is it would be around and have a lot more integrity. It hurt more in the long run but not for those who cashed in at the time. ESPN is complicit in all this too. Without ESPN there'd be no Sosa vs McGwire that was regurgitated ad nasium that whole year.

    Very insightful and poised discussion all around. I especially admire that Arod graciously answered several questions about his own PED use and owned up to his mistakes. Max's ruminations about being able to pinpoint the time that Clemens, Bonds and Sosa started using while at the same time admitting it was not so clear cut with A-rod leads to one of two conclusions, one that Max proclaimed openly (that ARod was great before he used), and another that he kind of stifled (that Arod was using since he came into the league)

    Obviously nobody has an idea of what steroids do to your talent when you are already a major league player. Yes, it adds strength, yes, it helps your durability. It does not change your eyesight, or your major league talent. Before Alex took steroids when he first came up with the Mariners and when he stopped taking them in 2013, he was already and still a generational talent. He is a Hall of Fame player and deserves to get in.

    • @Il_Exile_lI
      @Il_Exile_lI 3 года назад +1

      Obviously most people don't know first hand what steroids do to your ability, but Bonds is a perfect illustration from a statistical standpoint. He was an all time great player already, he started taking PEDs and had basically the 4 best offensive seasons in MLB history. The absurdity of his numbers from '01-'04 clearly show how much better steroids can make a player. Sure, they don't turn a scrub into the GOAT, but they can turn a scrub into an everyday player, an average player into an All Star, an All Star into an MVP, and Bonds shows they turn a hall of famer into a superhuman.

    So here is my opinion on this:
    I have a new respect for A Rod. Acknowledging your bias because of your past and understanding that you might not ever get in because of it, there is something you can respect about that.
    Max makes the most sensible argument anyone can make if you let go of your bias. What were they before the PEDs, and what were they after. Any baseball fan knows for a sure fire fact that Bonds was first ballot before the ACCUSATIONS. Max was right about Clemens being really good, but a maybe before the juice. And Arod is also a hall of famer. Maybe not first ballot, but definitely second and his PED did not really change who he was, an already great player. Sosa and McGuire can kick rocks.
    Bonds and A Rod would have my vote, Clemens would not.

    • @kennyannunziato5477

      no. cannot "respect" it though, "tolerate" is a more accurate word. The man openly lied to the entire world and tried to cheat the game. I don't know the whole interview, but from this portion of the clip, Arod never once said that PED users should not be automatically barred from HOF. He only said that he cannot speak for the others, only for himself, and said that he made mistake, and if that mistake barred him from HOF, he understands and have made peace with it. He also said that he would love to see Bonds and Clemens be accepted in the HOF, but said that it was not his decision. It is in fact the anchors who made the case that Bonds should be in the HOF, and in my personal opinion, i agree with them; his pre-steroid era were case enough on its own.

      JustTooLit yup I agree ppl talking shit let me tell you something from being an Olympic assistant and coach for what country that’s for me to know only. THERE IS NO WAY I REPEAT NO WAY any Olympic athlete can be even in the TOP 10 if not 20 in the world without drugs illegal. I have witness numerous athlete and different country actually using drugs ( won’t name which ). It’s all about $ there is to much $ involve for athlete to not drugs the rewards outweighs the consequences that’s why. Country gets passes if they pay and promote the sports well enough. There are virtually no sports on this earth that the top 50 if not 100 do not drug if ppl are naive enough to believe that I’m sorry to burst their bubbles. That’s just the way it is. Athlete might drug and even they coaches doesn’t know their parents doesn’t know that’s the reality. Fame and fortune outweighs all the consequences in sports that’s why ppl don’t care it’s simple economics specially if you from countries that don’t have a lot of ressource recognition etc... I’ve seen it with my eyes several time and still seeing it. It will only get worst but what I can say is there is a shift that is going on to start talking about allowing drugs in sports . My 2 cents is it will be allowed eventually because it’s just a hypocritical witch hunt now when every coach , team , athletes know them well what’s going on. Yes some ppl don’t do drug but they don’t win they are not none they are at the bottom of the totem pole. Your favourite athlete is “cheating” YES HE/SHE is. Especially in individual sports. If ppl think nfl player are clean then shit ppl are stupid same with hockey etc.... but hey wtv float your boat

      Good players can become great with the right drug cocktail. There are a number of players who were outed as drug cheats and never put up the same numbers after getting caught. And certainly pitchers that take PED can go from a Triple A player to an all-star with just a little more velocity on their fastball. It happens. 90mph vs 98mph fastball and different story.
