@@Mateuszyk I prefer my salt with meat. Salt in water doesn't taste well, that's why they need all the 'natural' flavors. To be fair, I believe pretty much all of us have been fooled by the LMNT company & I believe this includes most of the keto/carnivore "influencers" who's videos are sometimes sponsored by LMNT! I honestly believe they've been drinking this product themselves & promoting it simply because, they, too, firmly believed in its benefit & I believe they, too, have been taken advantage of. I don't blame the influencers who've been recommending LMNT at all since they are consumers too. They've been taken advantage of by this company like the rest of us. I don't blame the poor RUclipsrs. I blame the company & the creator of LMNT! THIS IS HUGELY DISAPPOINTING! Thank you, Dr. Boz, for this informative video!
If a person is an "influencer" and making money from a product, especially in the health industry, they have a responsibility to know the product. And also the followers.
Someone tell Bobby Kennedy Jr, this is exactly what he wants to take care of if Trump wins the election. Every ingredient should be listed in every food product.
Whenever an LMNT sponsored video comes on, I leave a comment saying there's enough maltodextrin in the flavorings to give my wife afib. Glad to see this video, I've almost given up making those comments.
@quintononezine548 Nah, don't trust this company anymore. I've been buying Keto Chows Saltt and Dr Bergs and making my own from scratch with no afib troubles. Too many other options.
@nahbrahhh The wife is definitely sensitive to the maltodextrin. It stimulates her heart. Other electrolytes like Bergs and Keto chow help with muscle cramps and dehydration yet don't cause the heart stimulation. We don't care if they use it, just label it so she can avoid it. It's no different than a peanut allergy. They don't label peanuts as a natural flavor.
I live in Europe and bought the unflavored LMNT a few years ago from an online European keto store. It was convenient for travel, even though it was absurdly expensive for just packets of salt with some added potassium and magnesium. About a year ago, I wanted to repurchase the same product for some upcoming travel, but the online European keto store stated that LMNT exited the European market (and suggested another product instead from Redmond). I thought this maybe was just because of low LMNT sales in Europe, making the whole endeavor not very worthwhile. But with this scandal, it could have been for another reason: The European Union is usually - fortunately for us Europeans - more strict about the information food and supplement companies need to disclose on their packaging, and the regulations surrounding this have become even more stricter in recent years. Maybe that's why LMNT exited the European market some time ago, to avoid potential future trouble regarding the disclosure of their ingredients.
Is there matodextrin in the unflavored version of LMNT also? If it's included as a flavoring, maybe none in the unflavored type? I usually go for unflavored everything and add my own flavor, or just add nothing (if fasting.)
@@tnprincess888 and if you read up on maltodextrin it is often called a highly processed cheap filler, with the popularity of the product their profit and profit margins must be through the roof. Profit over customer safety.
We had to stop using LMNT for this reason. My wife has UC and the maltodextrin flared her up. We thought it was a good clean product, but when we reached out to them they admitted to it. IMHO, it was really shady not putting it as an ingredient. Had they of done that, my wife would have known not to use it. I’m glad more people are finding out now and openly talking about it.
This is exactly why EVERY ingredient should be listed! WHY are they not???? Unacceptable! No more. I'm no longer one of their customers. And for the rest...if "natural ingredients" (or whatever) appears on the label, that says they're hiding something. I won't buy it! My shopping list just got very short!
Oh my goodness, I have been using LMNT almost daily and sometimes twice daily for the last 6 months while on a GLP-1 medication, trying to be faithful in staying hydrated, Initially I was still having a difficult time losing weight because of insulin resistance and pre-diabetes. (No need to come at me for the GLP-1, it was life changing amazing for me personally!) I stopped drinking LMNT towards the end of using my medication and the weight suddenly fell off. Thank you for sharing this Dr. Boz!

I got hooked on this product a couple of years ago, when I was first getting started on keto, and I found that, as long as I continued to use it, I could NOT get fat adapted or tolerate any degree of fasting. For months! I even hired a couple of diet coaches to help me figure out what was going wrong with my diet. I spent a lot of money on a product I didn't need and even more on coaching. As soon as I switched to straight water, no problems. The marketing made me believe that I NEEDED it.

Thank you for doing a video specifically on this. I see so many carnivore/keto influencers sponsored by LMNT. I used it for about 2 years bc of their recommendations but recently switched to Saltt when I found out about the maltodextrin. It really makes me upset that they advertise "no dodgy ingredients" and do not disclose and try to minimize the fact they use it. One specific influencer just did a video about toxic ingredients and seed oils while saying LMNT sponsored their video. People were commenting about the maltodextrin, hopefully she sees the comments and does some research.
Thank you so much Dr Boz, I have just emailed LMNT and asked for a return, because they have a 30day after arrival policy which they honour. God bless you Dr Boz.
And the fact that they push this through RUclipsrs that need sponsorship, it's pretty bad. I hope these RUclipsrs stand up against it and take the high road.
Thank you for this. LMNT’s price tag was too steep for me. So I make my own drink, consisting of filtered water, apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, sea salt, No Salt (which is potassium), stevia and citrus essential oils. Delicious and affordable. Dr. Berry and Southern Keto both have recipes that are variations of this. Dr. Berry’s is under Ketorade and the video was made 6 years ago. Southern Keto made his recipe video within the last few months.
The founder put out a patronizing statement that further pushed me to not want to buy any more of LMNT’s products. I’ve been a supporter of the product from early on when chris bell started pushing it. Besides the controversies, I’m just tired of paying a premium price for glorified salt packets. I appreciate the truth. Plus you can make it at home for almost nothing: * 1 cup Salt Pure salt, such as sea salt, with no additives, such as anti-caking agents. Remember, this amount of salt helps you make a recipe with 48 servings. * 3 1/2 tsp Potassium Chloride powder One brand of this ingredient is sold under the name "Nu-Salt." Whatever brand you buy, make sure it is just "potassium chloride" with no additives such as "anti-caking" agents. * 3 capsules Magnesium glycinate powder This ingredient is available in the vitamin section at most grocery stores or pharmacies. If purchased in capsules, empty the capsules until you have 1/2 tsp. of the powder. You may need to empty 1-2 capsules to obtain this amount. I mix it up in mason jar and put 1 teaspoon in a 30 oz bottle of water. All the ingredients cost me less than $20, I drink it daily for more than a year, and still have not run out of stuff to make more of it.

Thank you SO MUCH for posting this. I don't use this product but have considered it and my daughter and husband (naturopathic doctor) who eat extremely clean and are very discerning consume this. They'll be ticked.
There’s so many “healthy” food products being bought out by big food companies like Kraft and others who are going to ruin anything close to being healthier on the supermarket shelves. I’ve noticed changes in some of the additional ingredients, especially seeing, “this product contains a bioengineered ingredient “ quite alarming. It’s all about cheaper and addictive ingredients that bring you to the doctor and big pharmaceutical companies that work hand in hand. Better to make things from scratch so you KNOW what’s in them.
Natural flavors? Expensive flavors too. When we started a Keto lifestyle I told my wife there is no way I'm paying that much for electrolytes. Every carnivore "influencer" pushes this stuff. Money does crazy things to some people .
I'm not a diabetic and I'm on a super low-carb diet. I haven't noticed anything wrong while taking LMNT. I do, however, notice that I have a physical need for it if I don't have some for more than 3 or 4 days. But, that's easily remedied by either using LMNT or supplements that contain a lot of potassium and magnesium along with something with a lot of salt. I have also noticed that my LMNTs have started to taste extremely sweet recently (over the last month), so I'm not sure if maybe my taste is off.
You and nearly all the leading edge medical doctors who've grasped metabolic reality as substantiated by the last few years of medical research, knowledge and understanding are ALL putting maltodextrin in a negative light! And for very good reason. :) Keep up the good work!

Good for you exposing LMNT. It amazes me why people buy pre-made electrolytes when you can buy all electrolytes in bulk that's pennies on the dollar and you know what you are consuming.
Or just put salt in water
@@MateuszykAlthough then you'd miss the potassium and magnesium. Salt is just sodium and chlorine.
@@Mateuszyk I prefer my salt with meat. Salt in water doesn't taste well, that's why they need all the 'natural' flavors. Sugar and fructose are also natural, which is why I never buy things with vague ingredients on the packaging, if I do buy something that comes in a package. The marketing guys are just too slick to be trusted.
I've been wondering about this, what do you look for. I wouldn't buy the pre-made because it didn't look like it had much of anything in it. How do you make your own if you don't mind sharing.
So funny. How do you make your own? You take a scoop of potassium powder and a scoop of magnesium powder. You can also eat raw pumpkin seeds
Agreed - I'm so disappointed but taking it as a good life lesson - don't trust labels and eat whole foods is my new mantra.
True, but some of those influencers are doctors and scientists. They could have researched it just as easily before pushing the product for pay.
If a person is an "influencer" and making money from a product, especially in the health industry, they have a responsibility to know the product. And also the followers.
They are still saying they going to promote and consume these products. And get payed. Not right!!
Unless you buy the sparkling kind in the can it doesn’t contain any of that . Theres also the raw unflavored kind too
@quintononezine548 Nah, don't trust this company anymore. I've been buying Keto Chows Saltt and Dr Bergs and making my own from scratch with no afib troubles. Too many other options.
@mrstanfran Malto dextrin causes afib? Or the high electrolytes?
@nahbrahhh The wife is definitely sensitive to the maltodextrin. It stimulates her heart. Other electrolytes like Bergs and Keto chow help with muscle cramps and dehydration yet don't cause the heart stimulation. We don't care if they use it, just label it so she can avoid it. It's no different than a peanut allergy. They don't label peanuts as a natural flavor.
My sis had a reaction too
Thank you, Dr Boz!! That’s why we love you… you can be trusted, you treat us like you would your own family.🤗🥰
Dat klopt. Er is wel een alternatief op de markt van het merk 'noordcode'. Heb er eentje besteld, ik ben benieuwd ...
I wish the US would ban so many ingredients.
Europe and even Africa, has banned many crazy ingredients that the USA still allows. Its frightening!
Is there matodextrin in the unflavored version of LMNT also? If it's included as a flavoring, maybe none in the unflavored type? I usually go for unflavored everything and add my own flavor, or just add nothing (if fasting.)

Easy...don't buy any "products."
Good on you! This is the same reason why I don't shop at Whole Foods. The marketers have done their deceit and now what is presented as 'whole foods' is actually highly processed, full of seed oils, and hidden sugars.
If all you bought there was real whole food you would be fine!
Even the dairy they sell is largely low-fat. How can it be a "whole" food if the fat is removed?

* 3 capsules Magnesium glycinate powder This ingredient is available in the vitamin section at most grocery stores or pharmacies. If purchased in capsules, empty the capsules until you have 1/2 tsp. of the powder. You may need to empty 1-2 capsules to obtain this amount.
