Make sure to keep you originals close. You’ll be going back to them soon enough. I was where you are once. Pretty much installed the same Hogue grips on a 29 but mine had the cap. Eventually came to my senses and went back to the originals.
You went with the correct color. This is was actually period correct especially with this make and model. I put Kingwood hogue grips on my Colt Python and never looked back, they definitely help on magnum loads
I understand why you feel that way as keeping everything original is normally the route I would go, but the original grips just didn't feel right. I think if you held it and had a side by side comparison, you would feel differently.

Yeah, it seems like some people don't like the change, but I think the look and feel is far superior to the original grips.
The nicest grips for N frame square butts were the factory S&W finger groove combat in Goncalo Alves.

I could see putting those on one of the new classics but it’s a bit of a travesty to see them on that beautiful 29-3

They feel even better.
Those stock grips are going for about 200 bucks on eBay or more ! Never pry the grips apart u will damage them
