I love him saying he doesn’t really care about Daggett as a character, because he really wasn’t much of a memorable one, but he just loved the experience of working on a big movie. Wonderful enthusiasm.
There’s something so endearing about that lisp. Although his American accent has a lower-pitch that lisp makes him powerful yet vulnerable. Such understated brilliance.
His lisp seems less pronounced now than when he was young, it seems to me (I remember seeing him in the kids TV series "The Henderdon Kids" back when it first aired). I always found it a little surprising how both he and fellow lisper and co-star of "The Year My Voice Broke" Noah Taylor, managed to become the stars they did, given their noticeable lisps (and slightly odd looks, with their weak jaws). Taylor's lisp is even more noticeable. Of course, their talent at a fairly young age was very evident in that film, and talent takes precedence over commercial appeal in the looks department in Australia. That's why Australia has exported so nany great actors and actresses to the U.K. and the U.S. Apparently the two actors often get mistaken for each other by members of the public. I find that strange, as their faces aren't at all similar except for both having weak jaws that don't come forward enough so they seem to have rather pointy faces; that and brown hair. I think it's actually their lisp that makes some people mistake one for the other.
When he mentioned The Year My Voice Broke, I thought he might deviate into the story of how he and Noah Taylor are always being mistaken for each other outside of Australia. They both seem to find it amusing. :)
I think they would waste him. Everytime he plays in a big movie as a big villain I am not pleased with the result. a lot of overacting, etc....cause the writing is just not there
His performance in Animal Kingdom is one of the best I've seen in the 21st century. It's probably why Hollywood casts him as a villain in every single movie they make. Too often movies portray psychopaths as charming and well spoken. He played one as most likely are: awkward, difficult to be around and devoid of any empathy.
Holy moly that scene with “all out of love” played. Christ it’s hard to listen to that one again without thinking how grimy that scene is, was fantastic. It’s funny he plays these great kind of dirt bags ou evil villains but any interview I see of him him so happy and hyper and fun
I could've watched another hour of this . One of my top actors of all time . His role in Bloodline season 1 is the best performance I've seen on a tv show . When I see his name in the cast I'm running to watch the film , don't even care what's it about .
I love how frank he is about his Dark Knight Rises character. Not the most interesting character, but he played him well and it was obviously a great role for him to have anyway.
It's about time that Ben Mendelsohn finally gets his due. He's always been a very underrated actor. Haven't seen him in The Outsider yet, but I will soon.
This dude has become one of my favorite actors. Dark Knight Rises, Rogue One, Ready Player One, and Captain Marvel are the ones I’ve seen and loved, but I definitely need to see more!!!
Ben Mendelsohn has such a distinctive voice and it's great (also his acting is pretty good too). I'm glad he's been popping up more and more. I think Rogue One was the first time I really noticed him.
He’s the best there is at playing troubled, conflicted villains, who are almost tragic in their vulnerability. Hope this Robin Hood turkey doesn’t slow him down.
A mention of The Place Beyond the Pines would've been welcome, but for me the big hole in this is Mississippi Grind. I love that movie so much and his character is so interesting, especially when compared to his other roles. Maybe one of the sweetest people he's ever played, though of course very layered with darkness. An incredible performance.
Danny Rayburn is one of the best characters I have ever seen put to screen, even surpassing Cranston in my opinion just for that first season alone. Such a shame barely anyone watched it ... but glad he won an award for it. So deserved.
Bane: Leave us. Daggett: No, stay here! I'm in charge. Bane: Do you feel in charge? Daggett: I've paid you a small fortune. Bane: And this gives you power over me? Daggett: What are you? Bane: I'm Gotham's reckoning. Here to end the borrowed time you've all been living on.
I first saw him in Bloodline and was just captivated by his talent. And I’ve never seen him in anything since then where I didn’t absolutely love his performance
I liked this but I was disappointed that "Darkest Hour" wasn't discussed. Ben Mendelsohn was terrific as George VI. Gary Oldman may have won the Oscar for playing Churchill, but Mendelsohn's performance was the one I couldn't get out of my mind after seeing the film.
I love, love Danny too. I remember watching Mississippi Grind thinking wow, who is this actor? And then went looking for something else he did. And Bloodline was just out. Bingo. What a great role.
Just saw him in Captain Marvel and just had to find out who played the part. He makes an impression in a relatively minor roll. Some acters just have it, and Ben Mendelsohn is such an actor, despite the alien make-up.
Outstanding actor. What a dude he is. My bad and had no idea he was an Aussie. I thought he was English for some reason. He is one of the few people I look out for or should I say , I’d watch a movie just cos of. He made Rogue One and even his Dark Knight Rises was great. He don’t even need much screen time to be great. He has GOT to be a Bond Villain one day.
Easily one of the best actors I’ve ever seen. Whenever he is on screen I can’t take my eyes off of him. He’s absolutely brilliant on ‘the outsider’ which I feel his whole career has been building up to.
How has no-one added Killing them Softly? He's the actor next to the movie star, and it shows. He makes any movie or TV show at least +10% better, and he's also a little bit bogan which is awesome!
I only watched this video thinking he was going to talk about his role in Killing Them Softly, and then - nada. He was brilliant in that! GQ has dropped the ball again, how could you miss that??
Pope in Animal Kingdom is the creepiest character I've ever seen on film. So realistically played by this dude. It actually makes me scared of the actor a bit because there must be a bit of Pope in him to play creepy so well. Haha, I knew it 5:48 there is definitely some rage in this dude.
Omg, he was the kid in The Efficiency Expert! It's been ages since I saw that movie! And he may not care about Daggett, but it was the first part of his where I said, "Hold on; who's this guy?"😂
Ben is completely new to me. I watched the whole series of Bloodline in about a week. Ben is the actor that you’ve seen in so many movies, but you don’t know who he is until he has a breakout role. Now I’m seeing him in all these movies and wondering why I didn’t remember him. I am a fan of his now. He’s the guy that you hate so much that you want to see him again so you can hate him all over again. Great actor and a huge presence when he’s on the screen.
Just LOVE LOVE LOVE this awesome & multifaceted actor, every role he plays he just owns it 100%, would really like meeting him. & just talk about life. He just seems so down to earth & genuinely cool. #benmendelsohn
Director Krennic is my favourite Star Wars character. Ben played him so well. And he did build the Death Star, Galen Erso just supplied the fuel for the weapon. Ben was great in Darkest Hour too. Great actor.
One of the most underrated actors today. Loved him in bloodline
all the movies he have been simply say he's not underrated. He just need more screen time in each movie
Say it louder for the people in the back!! #StillMyFavNetflixOriginal
Shame about season 3 but yes I agree it is one of the most underrated series ever.
great show. prob what got him all the great gigs since then. he was so good in that show.
Bloodline was the first show I've seen him in. Just googled him and was shocked to find out he was Australian! Great American accent!
I love him saying he doesn’t really care about Daggett as a character, because he really wasn’t much of a memorable one, but he just loved the experience of working on a big movie. Wonderful enthusiasm.
Ikr, he act with real passion and enthusiastic in acting
I found that to be a refreshing comment because I don't think I've ever heard an actor explain it in quite those terms before.
love his honesty
Thanks for your continuous love and support @shannonroeilly4695❤️❤️
For how long have you been a fan of mine @shannonoreilly??
That chuckle at 9:40 about Vadar...man this guy is too cool

Nice comment
It makes him real, he can disappear into any role he's given
As a fellow Aussie it makes me proud how far this guys come. Always thought he was a great actor. Well done Ben!
When he mentioned The Year My Voice Broke, I thought he might deviate into the story of how he and Noah Taylor are always being mistaken for each other outside of Australia. They both seem to find it amusing. :)
:)
I usually think of Noah when I see Ben or vice versa, not surprised. Both amazing actors!
“Haven’t been talkin to the cops have ya mate?”
"Mate, I need you to help come build me a Star Wars, mate."
I clicked on this video to see how many Aunty Donna references were in the comments.
"G'day Darth Vader, mate. Just building the Death Star, mate."
"You dont see Batman chewing on a Muesli Bar do ya?"
This guy is very underrated sadly. Makes a great villain
He's best villain
Yeah
I have a weird crush on him. Anyway, he is such an underrated actor.
Real Mexican Food Shouldn't Give You Diarrhea Saaame!
Agreed he’s delicious
It’s not weird. He’s hot.
Had a huge crush on him since the year my voice broke
Anna K Same here! Crushing hardcore since watching the Outsider. Love how he portrays Ralph with a mix of gruffness yet vulnerability.
One of the best actors working today. He's a guy you're happy to see in as many movies as possible, no risk of overexposure here.
"i just went it and flipped a couple burgers" lmaaaaaaaao best line ever
He should be the next James Bond villain, and hemsworth should be the henchmen
No they would be shite
no he SHOULD BE the next James Bond...what charisma!!!
I think they would waste him. Everytime he plays in a big movie as a big villain I am not pleased with the result. a lot of overacting, etc....cause the writing is just not there
With hugh Jackman too and make them keep their Australian accents!
Yo wtf I literally JUST had a dream that the next bond film was set in Australia I’m calling the police

one of my faves too! he's great in it
IKR. I’m not even the biggest fan of the movie but his performance was absolutely my aspect of the film.
Underrated movie!

you've gotta watch bloodline. One of the best roles ever
Ben Mendelsohn has such a distinctive voice and it's great (also his acting is pretty good too). I'm glad he's been popping up more and more. I think Rogue One was the first time I really noticed him.
I love how humble he is and he really is one of the most respected character actors right now
Fame has not gone to head. He is still down to earth like every Australian 🇳🇿🇦🇺
Such a great actor. Really underrated
Danny on Bloodline... WHAT A CHARACTER!
Alexander Rojas agree what a performance he did
He’s the best there is at playing troubled, conflicted villains, who are almost tragic in their vulnerability. Hope this Robin Hood turkey doesn’t slow him down.
he did a decent job
the directing and the script really messy
It won't since he's in Captain Marvel
nah he's fine he's a captain marvel villain
@@apseudonym hm, actually sir........lol
Or _gobble_ him up.
I grew up in Melbourne watching him in films. So happy to see the States using his genius - FINALLY! About time!
I only clicked hoping he’d talk about The Place Beyond the Pines oh well 😢🤷🏻♀️💚
minni gcczi I was bummed they didn’t mention it:/
He was probably the best performance in that film!!
This guy is mad skilled, happy to see him in whatever role he’s given
He has the absolute perfect Aussie accent. Not too thick, it's nice and subtle. Such a charming man. And obviously, where is Place Beyond the Pines!?
What a great flick!
Would have liked to have heard about The Place Beyond the Pines as well!
yeah, thats what I was hoping for aswell, he's amazing in that.
I live how humble he is. He's starring in these movies but feels like he is blessed and excited to be there.
I so love Ben's down to earth honesty!
This man is so ridiculously talented & followed him since the 80's. So pleased the rest of the world have discovered how amazing he is.
A mention of The Place Beyond the Pines would've been welcome, but for me the big hole in this is Mississippi Grind. I love that movie so much and his character is so interesting, especially when compared to his other roles. I loved him so much as Vince in the Australian series Tangle - he nailed that role. he's awesome in everything though
Give this man the good roles he deserves or else Hollywood gonna catch these hands
Give 'em the hands! Give 'em the hands!!!! ;-)
How can he have a lisp in this interview and not while playing a character???? Genius or what
That's no lisp.
That's an astrayian accent.
@@Sectionmanifold as an Aussie.. that a definitely a lisp lol

I love this dude's voice.
Wtf had no idea he was Australian. His American accent is pretty much flawless.
I just assume now days all the male actors are UK or Aussie unless it’s Star Lord, Capt America, Dead Pool, or Aquaman dudes.
Danny Rayburn is one of the best characters I have ever seen put to screen, even surpassing Cranston in my opinion just for that first season alone. Such a shame barely anyone watched it ... but glad he won an award for it. So deserved.
Such a real show it was uncomfortably relatable at times. One first seasons ever, imho. I kinda hate its ending though
I hated it ending. So enjoyed Ben's performance. I actually didn't know he was not being a movie goer. I looked his bio up. Now I'm a fan!
"We stand here amidst my achievement, not yours!" It's one of my favorite lines ever
Yes!! That’s my favorite scene in Rogue One! Great actor.

I first saw him in Bloodline and was just captivated by his talent. And I’ve never seen him in anything since then where I didn’t absolutely love his performance
killing me softly....he IS a junkie and i was totally sold on his performance!
Me too, it was the first time I'd seen him in a movie and had to look him up on IMDB after.
Kenny works FOR Dillon!
Me too. He made the rest of the cast look like amateurs.
That poker game robbery...and when he tells the dog robbery scam...I died laughing!! Dishwasher gloves and a sawed off cut WAY to short!! Lol
Starred Up was probably the first film that got me to really pay attention to him. Phenomenal actor.
When he talks about Vader, he immediately becomes a kid. I love it.

He is my favorite character in Captain Marvel he brought Talos to life so amazingly. He has become my favourite actor love him!! 💖
just started binging Bloodline (made it to season 2 after 3 days) and came here just see what he was like not playing Danny and HE'S AUSTRALIAN?!
Mind blown! I know!
