- £10 & a couple of hours work saved potentially £350 getting this looked at and replaced by DJI!
When carrying out this repair it took me a while to get the ribbon cable seated correctly, so here's a detailed video of the gimbal ribbon being fitted back in.
Thank you, I have looked at tons of videos and yours is the only one that shows how the cable goes in completely. Most of them start, then show it finished. Look forward to the rest of your videos.
Glad it helped!
Best video explaining how this thing goes on there. I messed up the first cable I attempted to install but now I’m much more confident that I can install it. Thanks
There's a lot of videos about this repair but honestly, yours is the most detailed one, thank you so much for sharing.
You're welcome!
Excellent description... I looked at some other you tube tutorials to try and fix my mavic, your's was absolutely the clearest and also saved me from whimping out and sending the drone away to be fixed. It also saved me a load of cash, so some day I'll buy you a pint.. Thank you very much Richi TwoShoes..
Just the best video on replacement of ribbon.great camera angles and clear description keep up the great work and a new sub
I'm glad the video helped you, have fun flying!
The BEST instruction on threading that Ribbon Cable correctly. THANK YOU!
I love your camera work shooting this video and your thorough instructional skills (from Los Angeles, CA)
I was using an old GoPro so I couldn't keep the focus perfect all the time because I couldn't see the footage live, but I'm glad it helped you out pal
@@Richie2Shoes Even though it was an old GoPro, it was better than most other DJI how-to’s out there. Keep up the good work!
@@ChipmunkDale cheers man 🤟
Thank you so much for this tutorial! My Mavic was down since about 4 month, and I never found the time (*cough* courage *cough*) to go through this process. This morning I was determined to finally attempt the operation, and I found your video. The details that I saw in your video, which I had never seen before, gave me the courage to actually do it. And it worked!!!
Thanks again, much appreciated!!!
That's great news, I'm glad it worked for you!
This by far is the best step by step cable replacement video out!!!!!
Hank nason thanks Hank appreciate the feedback
Best ribbon install vidoe I have seen. Now it makes sense! Other vidoes are vague yours is clear - Thanks
No problem, glad it helped you!
Thanks for your video , my mavic is working again , what you detailed is deft the most difficult part of the procedure , thank you thank you thank you 👍🏻👍🏻😁
You're more than welcome, glad it helped!
This was the best video I have seen on this topic. Thank you so much - I had been trying to replace my ribbon cable a few times unsuccessfully - this video was the difference. MP1 is back to flying.
Great news pal, glad it helped
Wished I had found your tutorial before I replaced the cable the first time. Thanks for taking the time to do this.
You're welcome
Brilliant! Thank you for the idea with shaving off the ridge and thank you for such a detailed video. I've had my Mavic sitting for a month, not daring to do this replacement of the cable. Maybe I'll get it running again soon. Thanks a bunch!
Prashant Mahesvara good luck getting it up and running again, hope this helps you
Great video, thank you! You helped me finally get the install correct, after watching several videos that did not help at all. After struggling with the cable for almost 2 hours, at 2:20 in your video, it finally made sense and I was able to complete it right away.
Glad the video was useful, happy flying!
@richitwoshoes I was in exactly the same boat and after breaking one of the replacement ribbons by incorrectly installing it. The penny finnally dropped when watching this video. Will keep u updated once I get the new ribbon on Wednesday 😵
Thankyou. Totally agree, I've watched 3 videos where they quickly remove ribbon then say "just do in reverse to put together"... Totally different process, this video really helped me. Cheers, James.
No problem, glad it helped you out
Thank you for taking the time to actually walk through the replacement process. Every other video is long, and the persons hands are in the way 90% of the time or they put it in a different way each time, or they redo steps over and over. Im on my 3rd ribbon cable and on startup the gimbal got really hot so im just ordering a new one to start from scratch.
I'm glad it helped, I had an issue with my first replacement so I wanted to try and help others avoid it.
If your gimbal is getting hot it sounds like the motors might be damaged/obstructed, hopefully you get it sorted. Let me know how you get on.
Sir, you are GOD! This is absolutely the BEST video on how to change the ribbon cable. I was ready to check into the nut house after watching countless worthless videos on this procedure, I'm talking major frustration. I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to make this video! Thanks so much!
You're more than welcome, glad it was useful!
this is thee best video on replacing this cable.
Thank you. You have the best step by step on RUclips. You helped me solve that dreadful fold. Give thanks.
kobi2002 happy to help, it got so frustrated on my first attempt. I didn't want anyone else to have to pull that much hair out to change one cable again!
the best tuturial by far for this procedure! thank you!!
Christian OR no problem, glad it helped 👍
Nice Video, hardly any others show that first part in a way that is easy to understand, and that part sucks. Thanks for the video.
turbotime05 thanks for the feedback, glad it was useful for you
I'm on my second Flex ribbon after following someone else's instructional video. This time I will have your running on my laptop to make sure it all goes well. Thanks for your efforts for detail in your work. Lesson learned: the first video may not be the best. Thanks again.
No problem, happy to help!
Best close up so far. I changed mine a week ago and the ribbon cable caught fire. After seeing your video I think the last folding was not correct and this way I had a short circuit(or poor cable quality) . This week I will try again. I hope it works. Thanks for the video.
good luck, let me know how you get on
So the cable came in today and I managed to fix it. Thank you sir !
I have a gimble ribbon coming Monday so this came in handy and thank you!
Bob Bruns no problem, hope the replacement goes/went well
Thanks for the comprehensive video on how to route the ribbon, it helped me replace mine that had broken :)
Thank you! Best tutorial out there!!
thanks. glad i found this video. was a 20 minute job instead of 2 hours and wrong routing/folding from other videos and poor examples....
You're welcome
Great video thanks!!! All the other how to's show the easy part. Not actually installing the ribbon which they probably couldn't do anyway. "To install the ribbon just do all these steps backwards." Anyway my Mavic Pro crash when a prop broke off in flight at 300 feet. It nose dived into the ground at 40 MPH. Was under warranty but DJI wouldn't honor it because I was using Litchi. They quoted me a $560.00 repair bill. I said no thanks and repaired everything myself for about $80.00. Thanks again!
Hudson Valley Drone Flights I'm glad this helped you. Sounds like you did a good salvage job after a 300ft nosedive! Well done & happy droning 👍
Thanks 🙏 u r the only one ☝️ that did a correct video how to do this
No problem, glad it helped!
Best video in the entire world
Great Video, Thank you
Thanks very much for this video...priceless...but...I wish you would have shown more of the reassembly.
You're welcome. There's hundreds of videos that show reassembly, but very few that show this process, which is why I didn't bother showing that part.
@@Richie2Shoes I hear you...I'll have to go look for them...and yes, you provided a good service in showing that particular part of the process...so thanks for that.
@@Bill-NM good luck finding one, you shouldn't find it too hard 👍
Thanks bud, I will try it out.
the aluminium base and bottom circuit came in contact with sea water. i Have tried cleaning it with distilled water. the flex will arrive in sometime, ordered it today. somehow it will take 2 to 3 weeks here in india.. frustrating it is. will post update.
This saved my drone. Thanks!
Daniel Yakuma you're welcome 👍
What tools do you need to disassemble? Besides the hex screws, what kind of plastic clip removers, or whatever you call it, does one need? *PLEASE* get back to me ASAP* !! Thank you. I need to do a repair, however, I'm not sure exactly what it is I need. *PLEASE HELP* !!!!!
Thanks so much like honestly no one explained as well as u did
aryan gandhi you're welcome, I'm glad you found it useful 👍
Got me out of a tight spot mate thanks!
No problem glad it was useful
The funniest thing about this cable is that you do not even have to crash to damage it. Mine just gave up after 270 hours of flight from wear and tear..
Yea, I think it's due to poor gimbal design, there's a piece of plastic on the gimbal frame that rubs against the ribbon cable when you move the camera. I filed it off and haven't had any problems since 👍
i agree, mine has never had a crash or even a minor bump and is always wells ecured while in the bag,3 weeks i have'nt used it and one day i decided to fly it,voila!gimbal overload!
Did you also lose control of the up/down of the camera and get camera shake with a broken cable ? How can you tell if the motor is damaged or the ribbon is damaged ? Thanks 🙏
I've watched numerous cable replacement videos, this one is the closest to being actually useful but I still can't get the folds right.
i still don't know what they're thinking to use ribbon cable outside the housing :|
Tell me about it, such a poor design. They could have at least covered the cable in a protective sheath
Nice vid
This helped me so much! I finally got mine fixed!
Great news!
thanks for the video, I'm gonna do the same in the coming days...
good tutorial and save me a lot for repair cost. and could i know where could i buy the repair tools as yours?
Vichet Kfc I'm glad it helped. If you go to eBay or Amazon and type in "mobile phone screwdriver set" you will find tools similar to mine. Hope that helps
thanks
its a joke how easy this cable can get damaged
Ja H tell me about it, I've ordered a few just so I have a steady supply for when trees dive in front of it
BETTER STOCK UP
THE COOLING FAN IS FRAGILE TO
great video and very good to see how you doing it thanks from holland
yeah really.. very bad..
GREAT VIDEO MAN THUMBS UP
im changing mine this weekend, fingers crossed.
Pioter Craft good luck pal, it's definitely worth shaving off the little plastic lip that catches on the cable, I think that's what causes a lot of the issues
Great tutorial. I’ve been looking for a tutorial to replace my ribbon and yours is very clear. Thank you for that! Any suggestions on where to buy or how to make sure I’m getting the “original “ part?
Thanks Paulo, I'm glad it was helpful for you. I Bought mine from Fast-Tech-UK on ebay, it's not an original part but it's practically identical: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Brand-New-DJI-Mavic-Pro-Flexible-Gimbal-Flat-Ribbon-Flex-Cable-Layer/322601866779?hash=item4b1c91d61b:g:BLsAAOSw-wFZb9G8
If you're not in the UK I'd still suggest using ebay, but make sure you find a seller with good feedback and if possible reviews on sales of the ribbon cable.
Richi TwoShoes thank you for your reply. I’m in the US and will look on eBay
Good luck pal, hope it works!
I've replaced the gimbal cable and now I have no more video feed and the gimbal violently tries to calibrate and doesn't work. What can I do? Thanks!
I'm not sure what to do in this case. I initially had a problem with the replacement Gimbal cable being broken and it was not calibrating properly, I ordered another one, fitted it and that worked fine. If the video feed is broken too it could be another issue
Ty. And if after puting back the flat ribbon we dont apply the black glue stuff.... wont it disconnect by itself with the vibrations while flying?
Eric Couture apologies for the slow reply, my notifications aren't coming through.
I didn't reglue, mainly because the black glue still clamps the ribbon clips in slightly because it's a tight fit but also because I can envision this happening again, and removing the glue is one of the higher risk parts of the process.
I've had no issues at all so far and I've flown for a good 5 hours since the change
dose any one can explain why after i replaced gimball with original camera from mavic - both gimball and video -dead?
Can you fix mine please.??.?
I replaced my ribbon cable with a new one. I met started well and I was happy it worked. Unfortunately, after flying for 20min, the same gimbal motor overload issue reappeared. And the gimbal gets hot really fast, only after starting the drone for 30sec it’s already very hot. I opened the gimbal again and tried fixing the ribbon cable. But it didn’t help. Any idea what else I could do? Replace the whole gimbal? Buy another ribbon cable from another company? Thanks
Try cleaning and the hinges in the gimbal with a small brush, if there is dirt or debris present the extra friction might cause the motors to overheat.
If that fails I'd try getting a new ribbon cable, I had to do this as the first one didn't work. This is a cheaper option than replacing the gimbal. If it doesn't work you should try searching some forums for people with the same issue before you buy a new gimbal, you might find another solution.
@@Richie2Shoes Thanks. I was just about to order a new gimbal arm for $70. It has a ribbon cable already. You think I should try another ribbon cable first?
@@alexvite5065 try cleaning it all first, then give it a fly and see what happens. How much are you paying for the ribbon cables?
@@Richie2Shoes okay, will do. thanks. $8 for the ribbon cable
@@alexvite5065 maybe try one more cable, then replace the gimbal if it doesn't work. You can keep the one you buy as a spare because they do regularly become faulty 👍
this is the best video, most video is too fast, also doesn't show enough detail, than you very much.
No problem, I'm glad it helped you 👌
Actually that's part of ribbon you keep rotating how does the ribbon go through the mount do you bolt mount on top of that ribbon where you folded it and then screw in with the two screws on mount to the gimball arm
oczkowski8 hey, sorry for the slow reply, you're best to watch another gimbal removal video alongside this one to make the process crystal clear. My video just focuses on re-threading the gimbal ribbon safely and correctly.
One of the best things to do is take pictures or videos when you take it apart, this makes it easier when you come to put it back together. Sorry of this answer doesn't help.
Best video so far...unfortunately when I turn the drone on the camera points down. I guess I'm going to have to send it for repair after all
That happened to me with the first ribbon cable I changed, it turned out that was damaged upon delivery.
It could potentially be that the ribbon cable was damaged when you received it, before sending it off it may be worth trying to give it one last shot and fit another cable 👍
@@Richie2Shoes thanks. But I've tried this three times now. The first two times I may have damaged it trying to install. I felt the last time based on this video I did a pretty good job. Still hoping that's all it is and the official repair company will just put a better quality cable.
@@goaliebrent that's a shame that it didn't work, hopefully you can get it sorted and get flying again ASAP
Gright video replace a cable as you say and now the camera don't even move on startup any other time any ideas
I'm not sure sorry, I had to replace the ribbon cable twice because there was a split in the first one that I hadn't noticed. You could check all the connections are firmly in place. It might be worth having a look if someone else has done a specific video on this. Good luck fixing it 👍
My gimble keeps resetting mid flight is that down to the ribbon cable looks like it was crashing 💩me right up
Haha, I never had that problem so I'm not sure if changing the ribbon cable would help. It's worth a try of you haven't got any other options I reckon
I have same problem
Can you recommend a decent eBay seller who keeps their word?? Thanks.
paulkazjack fast-tech-uk on eBay, sorry for the slow response, notifications aren't working
very informative but bit blurred tho.
Apologies for the blurriness, only had an old go pro to film on at the time. Hope it helped
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🙌🏾🙏🏾
After 3 cables changed Still gimbal overload error 😒 ideas ?
Marius Daniel Fauru does the gimbal move around freely when you don't have it turned on?
Richi TwoShoes yes I checked the motors Everything looks ok But i got some ideas what can be the issue Ill write how it went after i get the new cable 😉
Marius Daniel Fauru please let me know what you did
oczkowski8 so : after again changing the c cable After 2 days again broke down I got a Original Gimbal with new original ribbon cable from Ebay ordered for around 35€ when it comes i make a video about it Also found out You can litle modify the old gimball so you get a few extra mm of play for the ribbon In the video i will show that too
oczkowski8 got the new gimbal from ebay (looks original ! ) changed it and now everything works good😁 BUT! : at startup the gimbal still makes the check up quite hard ! But works perfectly! I belive the gimbal has 2 week points ! 1 ribbon cable ! 2 gimbal motor center axle! Never start the drone with clamp on ! Never moove the gimbal against its will when working !
great help. however dji didn't make it a common fault. only ever a fault after crash
I've seen people have the issue without a crash. There's a section of plastic on the gimbal assembly that the ribbon cable snags and rubs against. Prolonged use seems cause damage to this
YES see what you mean after rebuild, great vid anyhow
Dale Murray cheers dale, glad it helped
I've never even had a rough landing. Actually I've never landed on anything other than my landing pad. And about 3 days ago I was flying my Mavic and I noticed my camera kind of moved quickly to one side while it was in the sky, which scared me because it had never done that, and I thought maybe a bug or bird hit me because I couldn't see it with the sun in my eyes. I landed immediately. The next day I took it up to film a train going by my house, and when it powered up the camera started flipping forward and backward violently, scaring the shit out of me. It continuously done this along with the "gimble motor overload" warning in the app. I noticed if I started the Mavic upside down it would work. It only worked for that day. Today i took it up to film Hurricane Florence approaching my area, and any way I started it wouldn't work. I did get it to fire up once, but when I took it up the horizon tilt was WAY off, and the gimble just wasn't acting correctly this time. I'm ordering a ribbon tonight and hopefully with the help of your video I can fix mine as well!
Not true, mine was damage without a crash,it's poorly designed..
