FPV drones are incredible! Are they worth the trade offs, though?

I would have to agree with you that if it were possible to have all the features of a Mini 4 Pro and Avata 2 in one package would be the best, but from an engineering perspective I don't know if this would ever be possible. I just don't think we'll get a drone that can fly 30-43 mins, 60 mph, sensors to prevent collisions while also having the ability to fly close to objects for the fpv view/experience. Especially the obstacle avoidance, the Mavics and Minis hit the brakes so far from objects and beep at you like crazy. Now imagine trying to do some fpv through an old building and the sensors halting the flight constantly because of objects that are 100cm away or more.

Both these drones are great, you need both.

It is a hybrid. It can be flown like a camera drone or FPV drone. Tracking requires sensors. Sensors restrict maneuverability and the ability to access certain gaps. Sensors also add weight and affect flying characteristics. The Avata 2 is best flown in manual mode with the RC3/RC2 controller. If you’re not willing to learn how to fly FPV in manual mode, I don’t recommend this drone for the reasons stated in this video.

It is a hybrid. It can be flown like a camera drone or FPV drone. Tracking requires sensors. Sensors restrict maneuverability and the ability to access certain gaps. Sensors also add weight and affect flying characteristics (by the way, it does have bottom and rear-facing sensors). The Avata 2 is best flown in manual mode with the RC3/RC2 controller. If you’re not willing to learn how to fly FPV in manual mode, I don’t recommend this drone for the reasons stated in this video. You won’t be able to fly the drone to its full potential.

If I were to spend that kind of money on a drone, I'd pick this one. I really don't know if it makes any difference, but I'm a pilot and very used to these kinds of perspectives.

I ordered and received corrective lenses for the Goggles as I have to wear glasses and have a pretty severe stigmatism. They work a treat

The Avata 2 is definitely not a suitable replacement for a Mavic/Mini.The footage is way less stable in normal/sport modes without a 4 axis gimbal.
The video signal is less stable at long range, especially if you fly fast. The range is lower in my experience. Return to home is also less intelligent on the Avata 2. I love my Avata 2, but I'm glad I kept my mini 4.

I have to use my contacts. How is it working for you with glasses?

You can put the Mini 3 and 4 into fixed wing mode to give you the impression of fpv although those drones are still not nearly as fast or nimble as an fpv. With a pair of goggles it's like a hybrid fpv.

Both I have mini4pro and Avanta2. start with mini4pro ( Bonus No License Required and works with goggles and motion controller ) then get Avanta2 ! Now your set and no need to buy anymore Birds

How do you get those eyeglasses to fit behind the goggles?

Obstacles avoidance sensors all around would be nise...but like you said, it would, "dethrone" thr mini series....so why would they ever want to do thag?..So combining the features will never happen. At least not until they think they have tucked every consumer dollar out of both categories.

Hey, just curious if someone buys this drone and buys the fpv controller additionally will that allow one to fly the drone using the controller and mobile to see the footage on instead of the goggles ?

I fly the Mini 3 Pro with the Goggles Integra and the Motion controller, and I have the best of both worlds. Flight times are twice as long as the Avata, and the Mini 3 Pro is surprisingly nimble in FPV mode.

I got the mini 4 and avata 2, there is no comparison, the avata 2 is so much more fun, i can fly it in the house withoutworrying about crashing into things, I was bored of the mini 4 in half hour.
That said, the mini 4 is better for phones.
