My honest review is that the difference that came from the pickup upgrade, is like so very small that it can be ignored. I bought this guitar second hand with all its tools for like 130 dollars. A new set of pickups might cost more than that. Getting a better amp is 100% a better solution. But dont misunderstand, this video is well appreciated and deserves like buttons.
I had one of these, upgraded everything, alnico 2 pickups, new tuners, bridge and tailpiece, nut, levelled crowned and polished the frets and gave it a setup. It made a difference to the playability, and it sounded a bit brighter and clearer, but not much, certainly not worth spending money on parts other than the tuners. The fret level and setup made the biggest positive difference. Its an entry level guitar aimed at beginners, and should be treated as such. The overall quality didnt feel great at all. I sold it on, at a loss, but the guy who bought it was chuffed to bits, in his eyes he'd bought a slash guitar that had all the work done to it to make it as good as possible. He loved playing it and hearing about the whole process of the work i did to it. I would do another one if one came my way cheaply enough, just because it was fun
I think you did a great job upgrading the specs of the guitar. Now, I can't tell how different the guitars sound "in the room", but the recordings sound very similar, with the SDs maybe slightly more high-pitched in the cleans while sounding very similar. The difference "comes out" more in the high gain area, where the SDs seem more focused and have clearer attack. Excellent playing, cheers!
good comparison. Sounds like there are intonation issues around 12th flats. Difference is slight I think but it’d be more noticeable with a professional standard amplifier in a studio
I have an Epiphone Slash goldtop model and was wondering to replace the pups with SD Slash pickups. Having seen a couple of comparison videos including this one, the difference in sound is marginal. I am not sure it is worth the upgrade. I'd rather change the tuning machines for half the price the pups cost.
Hi, the guitar is not mine, but having tried it a lot before returning it to its legitimate owner, I can guarantee you that in addition to the sound, the sustain and feel are also truly remarkable! especially after the re-octave (which I hadn't done in the video yet)
Right and it depends on your function. what you are going to use it for. If you modded it because you want something more like Gibson studio and don't want to pay a grand for it and are going to use it professionally it's worth it. another point here is the SD pick ups. If you want the true gibson sound put Gibson burst buckers in it and you will get that sound. /you are limited with only only one tone and volume control unless you can do drilling needed to put in individual tone and volume for pick ups.
Good video. I think the Slash model already comes with higher end pickups. I didn't notice enough of a difference to justify spending the extra money on an upgrade. It's a great sounding guitar either way, though!
Wow, very impressive upgrades! I have this guitar too and love it. It's a fantastic guitar for the price. Sounds great with the changes you made too. I also just got myself the newest slash in anaconda burst... Great too! Can't get enuff Slash Les Paul action😅. Keep up the top videos! 🤘🎸
Was planning to get vermillion burst if i start as a beginner and maybe a small marshall half stack also with chorus distortion phaser/flanger type pedals and slash wah to throw in the mix
i also bought a slashbucker few years ago. its awesome, i can hear the difference, but its a little bit smaller. i dont know its supposed to be, but the e strings are not exactly above the dots on the slashbucker.
Hi, if you still have this guitar, could you show me a picture of the back of the neck? I would like to change the tuners myself for vintage tuners. Thanks. :)
As someone that owns one of these, and several Les Paul's. I think out of the box, for the price, amazing. Don't use any pedals. Just plug into my marshall, and the sustain that it has is un fuckin believable. Just my opinion. The only mod I did to it though was put locking tuners. The stock ones are definitely trash
Im totally with you, want it to sound better, buy a better amp. The guitar is just awesome. I changed the strings to 009 base. Now i feel like gary moore all the sudden 😆😆
Personally, I would not have invested into this guitar. In saying that I could see the value in a upgrading the pickups if it died, I would have gone ape and rewire, shield, upgrade the pots, and the selector.
Original is pretty good ....so one has to think twice should the pups be changed. The new pups cost as much as the whole original guitar. If one searches top sound ... new amp and different guitar would do. Nice comparison work anyway.
Un buen trabajo , pero para mi gusto no se justifica el cambio , la mejora no es sustancialmente mejor . Hasta diría que que ha en audio peor que con las originales
If you Only Knew How much, ACTUAL Great Mahogany, Under that Maple veneer.. & How much TONE the neck contributes. With mucho gain... @ Bedroom volume levels. It all pretty much sounds the same. ( You CAN tell a Great electric ) by playing it in TOTAL SILENCE. & Feeling it through your ribs, hands & Ears. However, When, If, this happens... you'll be. OBSESSED with Buying it. & if it's Expensive... you'll Scheme to Somehow pull it off ! Ahhh, It's a Disease !
I got one for my birthday.. have to say it's right up there if surpassed the Gibson I tried out. Not going to pay for guitar just because it days Gibson
Tried a few at my local guitar center the other day around Christmas and those ex in that shop were rlly poor guitars. I would never spend that amount on a poorly built guitar. The Nut on the gold top was carved so bad that there was no sustain at all on the E, D string. (Sure this can be fixed). Fret work was awful on all 4 of them.(sure this can be fixed) Pickups wasn't anything special either. Neck was beefy and comfortable though. With all that said those exemplars were rlly bad. Would've picked one up for sure if the price tag was justified by what u get. I'd pay 4-600$ for that guitar. And I'm sure I might be able to find an used one later for around 3-400$ if my heart does desire that guitar. My old Epiphone that I bought 7-9 years ago (about 6-700$) the black beauty custom one rlly blows this guitar away. The quality of this slash model (of the 4 ones I tried out) is pure shite for what you pay. Volume & tone knobs were also awful in terms of cleaning up the guitar/lower volume down etc. For over 1000$ I'd expect some quality from Epiphone but seemes like they just don't give a fuck anymore about their guitars 🤗

I’ve been thinking about upgrading mine. Thanks for the info
All this proves to me is that Epiphone di a fantastic job with the original pickups!
Nice to hear you picked "Give in to me" by MJ

It sounds better, but I don't know if it's worth the expense.

Its mainly impossible to find the afd100 amp at some gutair stores i tried gutair center and they dont carry the amp anymore

Definitely more high output and a bit more sustainability. 👍🏼🤟🏼
I was looking for some making an upgrade on that guitar for a long time jaj

Nice job
Thise original pick ups are high end microphonic as hell.
I loved it.
¿El sonido es peor que sin upgarede o me lo parece a mí?
If you sense this, I recommend that you listen to this video with some decent speakers or a good pair of headphones
My guitar 🥰
The new Slash AFD doesn't need a pup upgrade. The pups sound like DiMarzio SD humbuckers.
interesting news!
These initially had very cheap tuners and these here look more like they are vintage Kluson style. Was this guitar partially upgraded before?
Yes, the tuners when they gave it to me, they had already been replaced
Where did you get those tuning pegs? I can't find any that fit because the screws are diagnol
the tuning machines had already been changed when I received the guitar

Sounds exactly the same
I agree. If there was a difference, has to be very slight. Too much work/expensive too little improvement.
No big difference on the pickups honestly. The new tuners are way cooler though.
No creo que sea lo mejor , las pastillas valen más que la guitarra , its a bad deal
Pick ups worth more than the guitar

Разницы не ощутил...если только процентов 10
damn your overdrive sucks xD (Btw turn tone on the guitar to the absolute low for the sweet child o mine intro)
The problem more than anything else is that I did the demos of the post upgrade cruch before the re-octave
Literally no difference with the pickups lmao
Unnecessary upgrade
Been chasing kiss alive album tone wanting to spend 1k got any ideas on what amps gutairs and pedals
