Thank you for the in-depth process. It's very straight forward except for the LCD part which I couldn't find a practical way. One video shows the host awkwardly pushing it out with thumbs, using a knife and eventually panel remover. Your way was a simple twist and it worked, not to mention the 22+ year old dried glue being frail helped. :) I switched from solid purple to see-through Atomic Purple which was my very first GBC. Ah, memories. I was 9 years old in 1998, had it on layaway at Target and made payments like an adult with cash earned from chores. Pokémon hit the USA like a storm that year and some of us are still big fans. Unintentionally became involved when there was a huge convention at some Orlando (Florida) mall but that's a story for another day. Cheers, dood!
I just got a teal one shell to replace my worn yellow shell and it even has a better screen! Thank you for showing how to take the ribbon out and most daunting to me at first, put it back IN. I am now armed with the careful confidence I need to do the job.
I just got a blue one from a friend. It has a hole opposite the speakers and I need to replace the shell. but I'm thinking of doing a kiwi front and a blue back.
Ciao, I saw that you didn't secure the screen to the frame with double-sided tape, why? Did you do it by choice? I see that you didn't fix the screen to the frame with double-sided tape, why? Did you do it by choice? Isn't there a risk that it will move?

Question: do you HAVE to disconnect the ribbon cable for the screen to access the front of the shell? i dont trust myself putting it back into place

Well the plastic screen will scratch easier.
