We grew up eating liver once a week. Our mom would serve it with caramelized onions, mashed potatoes, and gravy. The best part was chopped liver sandwiches for lunch the next day. So delicious! When I was pregnant with my kids, in the eighties, pregnant women were still encouraged to eat liver once a week. It was easy on the pocketbook, too. 49 cents a pound, in those days!
I love how it was encouraged to eat once a week! Now they recommend eating beans for protein 🤦♀️
Great, watch out for food kept in silos, it grows mold and aflatoxin which causes cancer. So always grass fed liver.
@@FromScratchFarmstead or drink synthetic supplements 🤦♀️
One story; One experience:
Liver is indeed a life saver.
My mom and I both almost died when I was born, and so from the moment I graced this planet, nutrition to live became the norm. It was definitely not the norm before that night. I don't mean to offend anyone, but way back in the day, fathers were considered crucial to the health and wholeness of their families, and the entire community and all the doctors and nurses were 100% on board with that truth. My father was given down the road for his 'ignorance' to health and nutrition, and was sent home with a book from the midwife to get 'educated'. He devoured that book and many others.
Liver was paramount. It started out liquified, turned into paste, then mixed with oatmeal, at some point became a topping for egg sandwiches, and was stirred, mixed, and fried into everything.
Some how my helpless innocent little body couldn't get enough. And as I grew, while my father implemented everything he learned, it quickly became clear that liver was the one thing my body would receive and retain.
He was also preparing it in various ways for my mother, and teaching her the nutritional ways of cooking as he was learning. She prepared and consumed and served everything he tought her. They took love seriously... very seriously.
Not long after, my brother was conceived and born...an absolute strapping little thing; healthy as a horse.
Too many decades to mention later, I still consume liver every day of my life.
And I still say, Liver is an absolute life saver, though not nearly as sweet. Lol.
Wow! Thanks for sharing!
How much do you eat per day?
@@jesusmywholehaschanged
I eat 1&1/2 lbs. or so daily, in one form or another, and my body retains and distributes the nourishment from about 12 ounces of that. Either way, I continue to eat it for one very valuable reason...I love life.
@@jesusmywholehaschanged
I would also say, the amount of liver I personally consume is relevant to my personal circumstances. I would think a far lesser amount would be sufficient for most. Liver is a wonderful addition to any healthy diet/lifestyle.
Thank you for sharing this amazing story/testimony 💗
This my first video of yours I've seen. I also had a dream specifically telling me to start eating organ meat to heal my body! So cool! You've got a new subscriber from me.
Glad to hear I'm not the only one who has dreamt of organ meats :). But really, they are so nutrient dense and the body is so wise! Thanks so much for watching and your kind comment!
I also had a dream telling me to do so. Just started.
I eat raw liver because I just like the taste more Raw . I marinate it in Hawaiian clay sea salt , sesame oil and soy sauce .
Yum!! Thanks for sharing!
That sounds delicious! I might give that a try.
I eat it raw too. I often grind it up in the food processor and add a raw egg so it comes out as almost liquid, and you can easily drink it that way.
I have hypothyroidism and Hashimotos. Thyroid meds were helpful but I was still having issues. I started liver and I feel like I got my life back. My brain cleared up, I have energy again, my deep joint aches have gone away. I had deeply ridged fingernails and they have smoothed out by about 80%. I hate eating it, but it's worth it to me.
Was it beef liver specifically?
@TiaraonCamera yes. I actually started with a product called Fem Support by Amcestral Supplements. Then I added extra liver capsules with that. I've now switched to whole actual liver, I turn it into jello using grass fed gelatin. I find it easier to swallow that way. Drop chunks down the back of my throat. It is VILE but I feel good.
That’s so inspiring. Thank you for sharing!!
Hi how much did you have aday,? Ty
Raw milk has been a game changer for me as well. I hate the taste of liver so I take it in pill form. Hope that does something lol.
That’s a good option too!! Thanks for watching!
I'm happy for you & hubby that you have your 3 beautiful kids.
Thank you! And thanks for watching :)
She looks younger like teenage
I’ll take that as a compliment 😊
@@FromScratchFarmstead Yes, that`s right! I was thinking the same :). You seem to live a really happy and healthy life. This way we stay young - Love and light from Germany , and thank you for the great content. It seems liver also saved me from acid reflux which I suffered from for 1,5 years!!
My favorite liver is pork liver. It has a more mild flavor than beef liver and the texture is better than chicken liver.
Thanks for sharing!
I eat liver with bacon and mince onions garlic and your choice of spices. So good.
Thanks for sharing!! Bacon definitely helps!
I make liver masala Indian style, so yummy 🤤😋
Yum! That sounds delicious!
Mmm black peppered beef liver served with a side of black peppered mustard to dip in no gamey taste pluss black pepper helps the absorption of the vitamins and minerals and the mustard also a good variety of nutrients that pair well with the liver.
Thanks for the tip!!
I guess I should have finished the video before asking the question. You covered exactly what I was looking for! Great idea! God bless!
Glad you found the answer! Hope your son loves it 🙂.
Live-er!
I just found your channel, searching for tallow butter :-) I don't like the taste of liver (I only tried beef so far) and this is such a good idea. Thank you!
You’re welcome!! Thanks for watching!
You know beef liver it’s good to balance hormonal please help me
It's been super helpful for me! Thanks for watching!
Do you find that liver helps your mental health? I struggle with depression and anxiety and it seems like this might be the solution (at least partially) that I’m looking for
It's definitely worth a shot! I haven't struggled much anxiety and depression but especially postpartum, I think this has really helped to avoid the common anxiety/depression that can come. All the best to you!
Anyone know how much beef liver can improve b12 levels ive been eating beef liver cause i have to raise my b12 levels
Beef liver is a powerhouse of b12! Definitely recommend!
@FromScratchFarmstead ive been eating steak and beef liver a few times a week for the last few weeks my b12 deficiency symptoms are getting better
How often do you eat liver? And how much of it do you eat in one sitting?
I eat about a small amount every day - maybe a 1/2 ounce. Thanks for watching!
When you were eating liver during pregnancy.. is it okay to eat the liver raw? Or is it better to cook it? I’m in my first pregnancy and I am trying to incorporate it! 🥰
I ate it cooked liked this but I know plenty of women who have chosen to eat it raw without issues but I don't have personal experience with eating it that way! Congratulations to you!! Very exciting!
Better to eat raw but only if its grass fed and from a good source.
0:13 hi good video, I really hate liver but I’ve been eating it raw just let it slide down like oysters,, do you think that’s ok and do I need to reins it. 😂
A lot of people do it raw! If that works for you, I'd say keep it up!
Great video! Been binging your channel lately. I am also currently TTC. God bless! 🎉
So glad this was helpful! All the best to you!!
that is genius how you prepare it, thank you for your tips
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching!
I'm just glad it didn't turn you into the liver king I don't know if there is enough room in this old world for two of those guys
Ha! 👍
You’re right! But how did you find out about livers ??
I'm not sure initially but we've been doing this for years! Thanks for watching!
My mom loves liver so growing up we ate liver and onions. Loved the smell not so much taste 😂
It definitely takes some getting used to! That's interesting that you liked the smell. I couldn't handle the smell the first several times I made it. It doesn't bother me anymore though.
@@FromScratchFarmstead I should say I loved the liver onion smell cooking
I am eating about an ounce of beef liver a day, is this ok? I was about to stop eating it because everyone said it's dangerous and prevents you from getting pregnant 🤷♀️
I aim for 4 oz / week. It actually used to be highly recommended in pregnancy because it's so nutrient dense and good for mama and baby! You definitely want to do your research and make sure you feel comfortable doing whatever you choose but it has made such a positive difference for us! All the best!
@@FromScratchFarmstead I will cut back to the same! Thank you so much! Appreciated ❤️
I don't know in what world it keeps you from getting pregnant. If anything it should increase fertility. Almost sounds like propaganda to keep the fertility rate down.
@@FromScratchFarmsteadwhy is everyone online saying liver is so dangerous for pregnant women?
You eat liver every day ? If so how much ?
Around .5 oz. Not a lot, just a small spoonful mixed in with other things.
I can’t eat liver in no form I seriously would gag lol I got however yesterday a supplement form, it may not be the same but close enough lol
The supplement form is a great alternative! Thanks for watching!
Hi, I loved this video. I was just wondering if you still do the 4 oz per week? ❤. Would half an ounce a day be ok?
Hi! Yes, still eating about 1/2 ounce everyday! Thanks for watching :)
@@FromScratchFarmstead thank you for getting back to me. do you ever consider beef heart as an alternative to liver? Or do you think it’s not as nutrient dense as liver to be replacing it ?
I’m trying this as well. Fingers crossed!
I hope it helps! 🤞
@@FromScratchFarmstead so far so good! I feel amazing but need to have more time to see the results and impact!
I'm already taking a food based prenatal with Vit A as beta carotene 750mcg. Can I still add liver to my diet and how much without reaching toxicity level? Thank you so much!
This is a good questions and I'm definitely not a doctor or giving out medical advice. From my understanding Beta Carotene is a pre cursor to vitamin A and but the Vit A in liver is retinol which is the active form and is much more effective. Thanks for watching!
Honestly get rid of that, it could only cause damage. Youre eating liver regularly right? Do what our ancestors did and just eat the liver. Youre gonna do great
The human body can only convert beta-carotene into real vitamin A (retinol) at very low rates (8%). Some people cannot do it at all.
Consuming beta-carotene as a way to get "vitamin A" is pointless. If you tried to get it from carrots you'd have to eat more than a pound a day.
Just consume the real vitamin A from animal-based foods such as organs, eggs, raw milk, etc. It's the only realistic way.
Thanks for the great video!! My recent fertility clinic visit didn't look so good and I started to look into this, I noticed that when I take iron (even a veggie one), my cycles are much more normal than when I don't supplement. I came across your video just endlessly searching for solutions.
Have you ever tried supplementing with high quality freeze dried beef capsules? I just ordered some and I'm wondering if they are as beneficial as liver itself? I don't eat meat often and I'm trying to incorporate it, but I was hoping the supplements could help in between the actual meals (on days when I don't eat meat).
The capsules are a great option! I've never gone that route personally but I know of many others who have benefited from them. Hope it helps you!! All the best!
Read the book "Real food for fertility" from Lily Nichols
Hi there, thanks for your video. I’m also trying to get pregnant and started to eat couple weeks ago. Does it need to be beef liver or can be chicken ? X thanks x
Oh you just said on the end of the video about chicken liver. Thanks ❤
No problem! I hope it's helpful for you!!
What about ghee?
We don't have a dairy intolerance, so we've always done dairy but ghee can be very nourishing. :)
How much would you recommend eating during pregnancy
I always aimed for around 4 oz / week!
New to your channel, really like your family! Did you have any problems with the taste or texture with liver? My son is an adventurous eater and he wasn't thrilled with it, lambs liver btw.
Thanks for watching! Blending it in with other things really helps mask the taste. And over time we’ve really grown to enjoy it.
Try mixing it with ground beef/ground mince. Some butchers will mix it in for you. In the US, the brand "Force of Nature" has a blend they call "Ancestral Blend".
I eat it raw. Local grass finished pasture raised beef liver I chop it into stew size pieced toss it on my tongue and wash it down. My experience great sourced beef liver has very little taste and almost no scent. I eat 1.5 to 2 Oz daily.
This is a great way to do it!
Okay so my question is.. can you still take prenatal vitamins and eat liver simultaneously?
I have in my first 3 pregnancies. This last one I didn't but made sure I had plenty of liver and cod liver oil with a very nutrient dense diet. (Not medical advice, just what I did). Thanks for watching!
Is the liver you buy frozen ?
Yes!
@@FromScratchFarmstead thank you
