HUNDREDS of Boats Crossing the Bay to ANNAPOLIS (after towing a waterman in St. Michaels)

  • Shortly after picking up the anchor just outside of a St. Michaels, we were flagged down by a waterman in distress. It was at this point we knew today would be exciting. Towing them, navigating through an extremely shoaly section, and then absolute mayhem entering Annapolis led to one of our most interesting days on the loop yet!
    Thanks for watching!
    Cheers from the Loop,
    Jennifer and Elliot

    ABOUT US
    Hi! We are high school sweethearts from Atlanta, Georgia who decided to take a year off to travel around the world. Together we decided to create vlogs for our journey as a fun way to remember it. On September 15, 2019, we left Atlanta with 3 bags, 2 one-way tickets, and 1 goal of traveling for a whole year. Little did we know, 6 months later we would find ourselves in a nationwide lockdown in India. After spending 5 months in India, we came back to the United States and decided to purchase a 34’ Trawler, dive headfirst into boat life, and kick-off America’s Great Loop.
    The good, the bad, the ugly - and most importantly, the real and real funny. We’re not here to tell you “how it’s done.”, just how we’ve done it. And that whatever it is that’s calling you - the way you’ll do it is much more attainable than it may seem.
    Thank you for following us along our journey!

      It is! I think if you are asked to provide aid you have to within the best of your ability (safely of course). If we didn't feel comfortable towing we would have simply called the CG or something and stayed by them to make sure they were alright 😁 Thanks for watching Holger!

    I've watched several of your videos so far (a lifetime boater and aspiring looper). I'm 5 min in on this video, and there is not much more satisfying (to me at least) as helping a disabled boat back to port. Good job!

    That bridge in Knapps Narrows at Tilghman Island is the busiest drawbridge based on openings in the U.S. You are absolutely right about that red marker on the east side. I went through there last week and there was a sailboat aground on the “correct” side of the red. The channel has shoaled there and now the south side of that marker has more water. Annapolis is often pretty busy but a great city. Dingy docks at the water end of every street too.

    • @SchoandJo
      @SchoandJo  2 года назад

      Oh wow! That sucks for the Sailboat, hopefully they were able to get off without too much issue. Neat fact about that drawbridge!! Thanks 😁

    Our home base! We have worked for the Annapolis Boat Shows since 2015 for the big fall shows and since 2017 for both the fall and spring shows. Super friendly anchoring in Spa Creek, Back Creek, South River, and Weems Creek. Dinghy docks everywhere. Tour the Naval Academy and Eastport.

    Good on you for helping waterman. Parking outside Ego Alley is going to be rough on any day in Annapolis harbor but on Commencement week and 4th of July its nuts as im sure you found out. Unfortunately at these times the volume of boats goes up exponentially and the seamanship goes down exponentially. If you go under the Eastport bridge there are additional moorings and its much calmer even on event weekends. Enjoy your quest and come back to the bay at some point - its a really cool place for the boating life.

    • @SchoandJo

    • @SchoandJo
      @SchoandJo  2 года назад

      Good point, it was much much calmer there under the bridge. We stayed on the outside mainly because of the airshow and because that was where our looper friends were. It was quite rocky and rolly Saturday, all the rest of the week it wasn't too bad however.

    In Holland you always have to help boats with problems, it is an unwritten law . Next it is maybe better to tie them along side your boat , then you have everything under control and you can dock easily .👍👍👍👋

    • @SchoandJo
      @SchoandJo  2 года назад +1

      True, it is maritime law to help someone in need! However, the nature of helping is always different. our alternative in this case would have been radioing the coast guard to let them know and having them handle the towing. That is a really good Idea though about a side tie. That would have been much better, thanks for the recommendation!

    The restaurant on the north side on the narrows, west side of the bridge is "Marker 5" - the best restaurant on the water in the entire region... They have fantastic BBQ, and the smoked wings are exceptional...I have a Grady in Deale, so I make it there often during summer weekends... Cheers to my fellow Georgians (from Doraville via GT)...

  • @lovingcars

    Your boat seems to rock quite a bit at the mooring, in comparison to boats close by. Is that due to not having stabilizers? #nonsailor might be a silly question.

    • @SchoandJo
      @SchoandJo  2 года назад

      If I recall correctly, most boats were rocking similarly at the mooring field. I bet the camera just didn't pick it up.
      We don't have stabilizers so I cant 100% say for sure, but I'm not sure stabilizers would help in this situation. They normally take a bit of power to run, so they are normally done underway. Cheers!

    Hey, why not take a poor man's option for AC and get a small gas generator and a window AC unit -- maybe a fan or two as well. That would make life a bit more bearable in the extreme heat of summer. I've seen it done on pontoon houseboats on lakes. Seems to work just fine.

    • @SchoandJo

    I see a major safety concern on Pivot. People on deck with no life jackets on or available. Someone could be overboard before even the quickest thought and then comes a rescue or recovery. Safety first, Lots of traffic and a cautious situation. Otherwise a good video. Enjoy
