    My buddy bought me a book: "Getting Started in Power Boating" by Armstrong. What a great book! I learned more from that book than on my own, or from the coast guard class. Anchoring? Don't shut off your engine until your anchor is set, and start your engine before you pull up the anchor. Both will help you stay off the rocks, or keep you from drifting into other boats. Good luck new boaters. Cheers!

    Tip: The transducer for depth/fish finders often do not work at high speed. I think it has to do with the disturbed water flow.

This was our first season there with our new Robalo 227 and we are still learning the waters. Thanks for the video.

    Hello Wayne, my wife and I are in our 70s and will be buying a small boat in the Spring but not as old as your first one. I don't have the time to install all the equipment that you did on the first one. I will pay attention to what you have told us and should be safe on the water. Your videos are like a classroom and will listen to the teacher. Thank you Wayne and if we ever need any advice hopefully you'll still be in town. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. It seems you have what is known as the I.C.W. in eastern U.S.ofA.Sheltered waters where you can do long hauls in small craft.Dont have such a thing here in my corner of Canada.
    I bought my first powerboat at age 12 with money made at lawn mowing and newspaper delivery.Lots of sheltered bays here but nothing like I.C.W. CHEERS and lots of safe boating fun!

    @10:29 How to Safely Boat Downhill! My last trip under the Bay Bridge was a few months back when a pal asked me to co-pilot his boat from the Magothy to the South River to a yacht broker for a consignment sale. Weather and water conditions were identical to your trip. It was a fun excursion because he and his wife had strategically placed his truck at the broker's lot earlier that day. Annapolis is a beautiful little city.

    Thanks for your videos, the waters remind me of going out with my father in the 1960's early 1970's fishing in the Cheasapeake Bay, I live in California now and thinking about getting my first boat. No experience except riding in a 12 foot boat rental somewhere in Maryland fishing in those waters, but I remember the Bay Bridge watching it from 7, 8, or 9 years old. I think in those days they were building a second span to the Bay Bridge. If u get a chance could u take a trip to the Potomac River Bridge that divides the State of Maryland from Virginia. If I remember right it's great fishing we caught Perch, Spot, Blue, and Rock fish, maybe in California they call it stripped bass, also there was a multicolored fish like a rainbow, I don't remember the name, but it was a lot of fun catching fish in Maryland and Virginia waters with my dad. It was nothing for my father and I to catch over 100+ fish in one outing in the 1960's in a 12 foot boat with a small hand held motor on the back..

    preparing for a trip LIFE JACKETS 1st No life jacket no go. In Scotland we call children wains. So dont be a "Wain" Put a life jacket on first. That is crazy going out for a cruise in open water without a life jacket on. I appreciate that was filmed a while ago, but please please wear a LIFE JACKET at ALL TIMES. It is no good having it in the boat. One of those "lumpy waves " Could swamp your boat in dump you and everything else in to the deep blue, how are you supposed to reach your life jacket thats stowed away ??? One life people. Remember don't be a wain wear your life jacket at all times.

    • @WayneTheBoatGuy
      @WayneTheBoatGuy  3 года назад

      At the time, we had the 'required' life jackets on board - actually they were out on deck to make them quickly accessible. But they were the bulky orange things which are not pleasant at all to wear. It was a very hot/humid day and in our area, adults aren't required to wear them - just to have them accessible. Since then we have gotten some more comfortable ones, and this year I hope to have the lightweight fancy ones that aren't horrible in hot weather.

      @@WayneTheBoatGuy I don't mean to be on your case Wayne believe me i love your videos. Please make sure you wear one(Life jacket) at all times on the water.
      Its ok having them on the deck. How can you get them if you are swamped ?? It doesn't matter if you are required to wear them or not. You SHOULD ALWAYS wear a life jacket. Its your life you are playing with. What would have happened if a big roller come in from the side and knocked gingy over ? Would he have time to grab a life jacket ?? Do you know how to go and retrieve a man over board. If the shock of the water doesn't make him pass out by the time you turn the boat you would be looking for a head the size of a soccer ball in all those waves. Do you honestly think you could have saved him ????
      I will stop commenting on your videos, I will still watch them and i have subscribed for a wee while as you can see.
      Please please my friend be very mindful on the water.
      I have spoken to a lot of people who were glad they were wearing a "bulky orange thing" but never spoken to some one who..... well you get what i mean.
      Happy boating buddy
      Please stay safe on the water.

      I have to second Andy's comment. I've been cruising on the Magothy and surroundings for over a couple of decades. Every year there is at least one fatality on the river. You have probably heard about the recent one on July 3rd (2022). In all the cases I am aware of, not one fatality was of a person wearing a life jacket. I will not leave the dock unless everyone on my boat has one. I endorse the inflatable style vests as they are comfortable in hot weather.
