    the top positive terminal sits ABOVE the pop switch. You didn't burn through the case. 😃 that cell should still be fine.

    Check out the ebay pics for the second welder you got the wrong connections.cheers

      Thats what I was also thinking. he is going thru the diodes of the MOSFETs and there is no current limit or anything so when he makes contact the battery is just pouring current thru the Nickel

    You needed the connector plugged with 12v dc to power the logic of the board. You tried without connector and the mosfet went short circuit

    7:37 there was smoke released through the pcb hole between two red cables, maybe a component has blown around there? maybe that's why the "lightsaber" spot welder is not working properly since?

    I am considering using a starter motor solenoid on a lead acid AGM battery to well .15mm x 8mm pure nickel. Have you tried that yet ? Use a momentary switch to operate solenoid through copper welding rods.

    Hello, do you have a link to the board that you blew up? could it be that what you think is a charging port actually is a footswitch port?
    Regards

    Perhaps that the reason for the little plug that you did not use, to time the pulse(?) Also even though it burned thru the tip of the battery, there is nothing wrong with it. You can still use the battery.

    if you had blown through the negative bottom of cell you would maybe injure yourself or indeed have a fire the positive end is sort of double skinned to accommadate the (cid) wear gloves and eye protection.

    It's just the cap. Maybe a lower setting?

    so the BIFRC turned out to be the best ! Ever try Supercapacitors ? Alibaba is selling used 2.8 V 3000 F units for $10.

    looks like the diodes in the mosfets are allowing the current to flow backwards.

    • @sidlori1592
      @sidlori1592 2 года назад

      Doesn't work that way ;-).
      They allow REVERSE power flow through, but the metal strips aren't generating power. Even if it was, it'd get gated back into the battery.

    Is it possible that the barrel jack could be for a foot switch and the little switch could be what turns that on...?

    • @stevenc22
      @stevenc22  3 года назад +1

      No I checked, the barrel Jack is for charging a capacitor bank

    • @CookieTube
      @CookieTube 3 года назад +1

      No, as @Stevenc22 says, it is for charging a cap bank if you use one to power the unit.
      However, v2 of this PCB (which Stevenc22 shows in this video) does have a foot switch option!! You can solder one in the lower left corner of this pcb.
      For more detail, also take a look at the Chinese listing on Taobao.com: item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=624450584422&ns=1#detail
      See also my comments in his follow up video:

      *But indeed two major important points:*
      1) He needs to *wire the pcb up correctly* , lol. He didn't in this video and as such possibly damaged the board.
      2) *When using 12V, like his battery he used, a 25V 10000uF capacitor must be connected in parallel with the battery +- pole/line* to prevent possible surge and high voltage damage to the control board during spot welding!! Which is likely what happened when he blow up this pcb in his follow up video: ruclips.net/video/_eEOqeNRLrE/видео.html

  • @sNEAKYnIGHTmUPPET

    I'm not sure how this affects things, but your strip is not nickel, it is nickel plated steel. I saw your magnet attract it which pure nickel would not do. have you tried pure nickel?

    • @stevenc22
      @stevenc22  3 года назад +1

      Pure Nickle is magnetic. The element Nickel (Ni) is one of the few ferromagnetic metals. Ferromagnetic means they are attracted to magnets and can be magnetized themselves. Most metals aren't magnetic with the exception of iron, nickel, cobalt, gadolinium, neodymium and samarium.
