PSA aerosols when sprayed stay in the air and can travel all around a room as they stay suspended much longer than you would think. So covering only that little portion of the tank will not guarantee that nothing gets in

I agree, you need more flow on top surface. Zoas start disappearing, watch hippo tang, they eat Zoas when they get bigger. Hippo tang also picks on my leathers as well.

I suggest thread find cardinals. Under rated, but the iridescent blue is striking. You can put the fry in the mangrove tank. I also would suggest the spotted rabbit fish for utilitarian benefits and the markings are much different than most fish. If you want to live on the fringe a majestic angel would be a nice show fish but may nip your lps and gorgs. The trigger would be active but may go rogue and you currently have a nice balance with your fish. You could always pull the trigger and get a blotched anthias, cha-ching

I also had got a porcupine puffer, about 50 cent piece size, in my 125 reef tank and he never bothered anything. I fed him well every evening. I loved that fish so much. Would let you touch him. He grew incredibly fast. Within a year he was nerf football size.

the foxface is definitely a fantastic solution. slow, but effective. mine loves younger bubble algae, but it does refuse to eat older ones so i do have to pop them so they die and the babies get eaten. it might just be an individual basis, but mine never messes with any coral. i also feed it well so it probably never feels a need for eating coral

There are silicone tipped sculpting tools that work amazingly well for removing things from live rock that you don't want so squish/burst/tear. I use them to remove bubble time anemones when they sell.

Best of luck to keep the cloudy water away. My chalice bleached recently as well and I found my phosphate was high and iodide was low. I did a water change and started dosing vibrant about a month ago. It’s holding on so far not bleaching anymore so maybe it’s maintaining again. Only time will tell. Good luck bud 👍

I.R. I highly recommend siphoning out into a filter sock going back to your sump. Use metal dental picks to get the vesicles out. Whether or not the spores are released you can utilize a lower micron sock, ( 10?? 5??). Do it every week and get those nutrients down.

I just bought some Marine Pure Gems and Brightwell biomedia, because I have 2 tanks that started off as QT tanks, that ended up housing all of my corals from 2 tank crashes. Issue was putting 42gal worth of coral into 20 gal. With that said, I didnt bring over alot of liverock, as real estate with scarce and honestly I couldn't really fit any of the pieces. I had hoped to actually upgrade both of my coral tanks, but was worried all the bacteria was on the tanks surface, and when I move everything, Ill be leaving it behind....so, hopefully the biomedia helps in that regard. Id be interested in finding out what's causing your bacteria bloom, as I have them as well but chalked it up to that tank being a nano and not having enough flow/a good exporting system. Good luck

I had a sailfin tang. Beautiful fish but psychotic! Ran the whole tank. No one was able to swim around. You could cut the stress within the tank with a knife. Traded it in at a local store. Someone else purchased it for their tank who had some larger and aggressive fish and ended up having to return it for the same reason.

UV sterilizer will solve your bacteria bloom issues. Everyone claims vibrant to use for the bubble algae but they don't tell you it is an aggressive bacteria strain in the bottle so it will out compete your other beneficial bacteria you already established. What were your nitrate and po4?

Can you use aersol products in room as long as you spray is away from tank and make sure none is getting in? I have a screen on my tank in kitchen which I use cleaning products in and my other tank has no lid but water level and counting frame is down about 3 inches so I dont think fish can jump that high, maybe but havnt had it happen yet and I use windex to clean glass now and the but mostly vinegar and water. Anytime I use any products I do make sure it is sprayed low or spray paper towel and then wipe, but just wondering if the smell could be bad. So far I have never had amonia spike or anything.

Bubble algae is the worst in my opinion. I’ve been trying to get rid of it for 6 months. It spreads so fast. Use a toothbrush. Shut off pumps, and use a fish net to stir up all the loose bubble algae, and scoop it out with the fish net. I’ve tried everything and this seems to work the best so far. Good luck.

    Just use brightwell microbacter clean
My tank was infected by those things( Really really bad ), I was about to tear everything down and start again, but after adding the microbacter clean to the tank ( just the normal dose of once a week ) 90 % of them disappeared after just a month, unfortunately, i only had one 250 ml bottle available at the time but will get another one, once available at LFS
Just keep an eye on NO3 and PO4.

100% if you tell cleaners not to use cleaners "near the tank" they're going to anyway. I would bet they're straight up cleaning the glass with windex and spraying it everywhere.
Clean your own place for a couple months, see if the cloudiness stops, then you know. SImple.
As other have said, if corals are dying its probably not just a bacterial bloom. Get an ICP test done.

If you want a surefire way to figure out if the cleaners are causing your cloudy water issues, set up a clear container with fresh saltwater and some flow. If it's something spawning in your tank or you have some sort of biological imbalance, it won't show up on your test container. However if something DOES show up it could mean many things. One of them is what you suggested, air products releasing volatile organic compounds(VOCs) and feeding bacteria. However one thing I noticed in your tank is that it's not producing the aggressive white slime that covers all your rock and equipment associated with the bacteria that feeds on VOCs(alcaligenes faecalis). I've personally dealt with it and it almost made me quit the hobby trying to figure out what was causing it. After 2 months of frustration doing everything in my house to get rid of anything in the air(opening all the windows, never using cleaning products, removing some plastics from the tank) I came towards a breakthrough when I discovered the same bacteria growing in my saltwater mixing tub outside after I let mix for a few days. With all the ventilation outside it told me that it was something in the new water itself and not something in the air or in the tank. I narrowed it down to the salt or the ro/di water and after changing to a new salt I finally figured out that it was the ro/di water itself because I didn't change the filters for 3 years. After I changed it and did a 90% water change(wouldn't work before) the bacteria blooms finally vanished. There are dozens things that can cause bacterial blooms in a reef tank, I hope my long rant could help you narrow down other possibilities even more.

    • @InappropriateReefer
      @InappropriateReefer  4 года назад

I love this idea and thank you for the suggestion! A few weeks ago someone suggested me looking into my RODI system as well. While I have replaced all the filters and RO membrane recently I may not have flushed it properly, I wonder if that could have caused anything. Either way, if the bloom comes back I will just swap everything again to be sure. Again, thank you for sharing your experience and I’m glad you stuck with it and found the issue!!

The popping of bubble algae will make it spread has always seemed strange to me because no way a fish or emerald crab could eat a bubble without popping it
