I stopped running the recipe and in the next week or so the remaining bits went away and now I cant find any at all. Thank you so much parker, your a god send.
I would definitely give this a shot as I am battling bubble algae and it’s getting out of hand and control. I will reach out to you and get the recipe for it. Thank you 🙏 for sharing your experience and success.
Hi Parker, would I be able to run Rowaphos or a refugium while doing this treatment? Or any other phosphate remover? I'm afraid of my phosphate spiking. Thanks.
hey Clive, good question. I would be worried that Rowaphos would remove your active ingredients and make them less effective. You can still run a refugium, however you may find it's growth inhibited depending on the macro you have in there and how it responds to the treatment.
Glad to say I've never had an issue with bubble algae in the display. Thanks for the video Sam. Interesting that the Cadbury Purple acro passed during this process, as you may recall I lost the mother colony after replacing about 30% of my live rock and I believe that had caused an imbalance in the good bacteria.
Hi Sam. Great video. So, I have talked with Jack Kent (owner) and Dave (plant manager) of Brightwell Aquatics and Continuum many times about their products. I use a few Brightwell products with good results. I plan on following your routine to see if it works for getting rid of some bubble algae. This will be my first time using Razor which yes it is the same as Clean Equation M. I am just a little confused with the timing of the products you are dosing. Keeping in mind that the Continuum and Brightwell products are the same with just different names, the instructions for Microbacter Clean ( Bacter Clean M ) and Razor ( Clean Equation M ) when used together is to dose the Microbacter Clean first with socks removed and UV and Skimmer turned off for 4hrs then add Razor. Opposite of what you are doing. I don't see a big issue doing the order your doing but my question is if you have filter socks and you are dosing Bacter Clean M at night with the lights off are you actually removing the socks if you have them and how are you monitoring for possible cloudy water ( bacteria bloom ) with the lights off? What is also confusing to me is if you follow the Brightwell/Continuum instructions for Razor/Equation M it says to add a couple hours after lights come on so that actually contradicts the Brightwell/Continuum instructions to dose Microbacter Clean/ Bacter Clean M first. Curious on what you think about the conflicting information?
I had a pretty bad bubble algae outbreak in my first 6-12 months of reefing. I got myself a one spot foxface rabbitfish and he absolutely murdered every bit of it in the tank it could reach, was pleasantly surprised how quickly it got rid of it all.
Reefs looking awesome. 👌 your not missing out on those emerald crabs Sam. They do bugger all when the bubbles get hard and to a certain size. Good to know this definitely works
Great video Sam! Just about to start this regime. 2 questions: 1) Equation M maintenance dose: start on day 7 or day 8? And 2) When working out the dosage, do one take in account the non-water capacity of the tank (ie just the water) or just use the full tank capacity in terms of aquarium volume? Eg my full system tank capacity is 434 litres but I’m estimating my actual water volume to be around 380 litres. Thank you again Sam.
Hi Sam. After day 14 of following the regime to a tee, Bubble Algae disappointingly still present. Do I just continue the maintenance dose for a few more days?
@user-ex1iz8to9q oh wow, that has to be a first I’ve ever heard. Has it at least started to change colour? If it has changed colour a little, run maintenance. If it doesn’t look any different, I’d review the entire process and start a fresh
Hello parker, question for you. on the clean equation m maintenance dose it just says add 7.5ml to tank, is that 7.5 total or 7.5 per 50 gallons? thanks ahead of time.
yeah great question! I personally have not done it myself with clams so wouldn't be comfortable saying 100% for sure that it is. Hopefully someone else that has done the process with clams can comment.
Ive followed this recipe also for my 800G reef tank and it worked amazingly. No more bubble and lettuce algae! Very happy! I wonder which of the products or combination could be dosed weekly to keep any algae away? Thanks heaps Sam!
Interesting method! I'd be interested in learning more about the active ingredients and mechanism(s) of activity. For what it's worth, after attempting months of manual removal and emerald crabs to battle a serious bubble algae infestation in an established 125g mixed reef, I finally broke down and tried Vibrant, which has since gotten a bad name because the manufacturer attempted to hide the fact that it's actually an algicide. After one or two applications (i forget, it was a while ago), I was rid of Valonia within days, and this lasted until I broke the tank down about a year later. I didn't observe any negative consequences, but I realize that your mileage may vary, and I'd certainly be cautious about trying it on a dream reef like yours with sensitive corals. Glad you were able to find a successful system!
I'm on my 10th day of the program(alternating dosing days), and the bubble algae is gone! Amazing!! My last water change was a few days before i started the program. Wondering when i can do a water change? Thanks so much for your help and the awesome video!!
