I worked for 37 years as a police dispatcher. My 60 mile round-trip commute was usually just before or after midnight, with the last 13 years driving home at 2am or later. We are in central rural NH, and the winter roads can be challenging. It didn't happen often, but during bad storms with a lot of snow & ice, I took a hotel room rather than being on a deserted road not being able to see anything. No need to be stupid.
I’ve read you can set up small tent add maybe a mattress…cover the tent with a thick blanket…use blankets pillows or sleeping bags and it should help keep you warmer when power goes out. You’ll keep body heat in small area. Someone else suggested setting up tent on top of your bed and not on the floor.
I put a bag of things in my car…small shovel, treads to help if you get stuck…thick wool socks, extra gloves and hat…lights to alert other drivers, tiny stove which holds square fuel…jar of instant coffee…sleeping bag…food squares (3000 calories)…cup
I live in Indiana and had gone to my parents 75 miles west and a storm came in. I drove back through a horrible storm with my 2 little boys. I white knuckled it all the way home with my headlights icing up. I had been taught well by my father who wanted me to be independent. Home never felt so good. You're tough! ❤
I do the same thing and keep it in my van all winter. My husband is a paraplegic and if we get stuck there is not walking anywhere if there is snow on the ground he can not go in it in his power chair. I keep blankets extra clothes way to heat us as well as a little food and a way to melt the snow for water if needed. I mean we live in Ohio so odds of anything happening is very slim but I am prepared.
Fifteen degrees is still cold even if you are an Alaskan. My feet were freezing when I was standing in line to get my tires changed over at 23 degrees in Anchorage today.
Listening and watching you prepare really blows my mind considering I live in a country in southern Europe where we get around 250 days of sunshine a year. It snowed here a couple of years ago and everything shut down, people were shocked but it was amazing. How envious I am of where you live. Sending you all much love ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Wow snow already. This makes me humble and keeps me from whining here in Maryland with lows in upper 30’s lower 40’s. I hope your first snow of the season is not too bad. ❤
@@annabrahamson4320 here in Maryland we have highs in the 60’s and 70’s and lows in the 40’s. I can deal with this but I know what’s coming. I’m 67 and just don’t want to clean up snow anymore 😂
Not sure how hard you got hit ( I've seen some on RUclips shorts) so hopefully Lance is safe. Here in rural NYS where we're prone to blizzards in my area ( live on the snow ridge) we always carry wool blankets, shovel, kitty litter ( for traction) pillow, water, food, and the big glass candles usually 4 for heat and yes it does warm up the vehicle (window open a crack for ventilation). Be safe Happy early Birthday Natalie. 🎂🎁 Blessings to you and the family. 😊🇺🇲
Hope that it doesn't get to bad for all of you! Glad that Natalie is feeling a little better, and that your Mom is back home and doing good! Stay safe!!💖
Your family is the sweetest ever! It's always best to be prepared for anything and everything. Let's not forget the non food essentials as well. such as T.P., paper towels and eating utensils. Even a can opener just in case. Stay safe.
In Tn ICE is what we get the most of! The only bad thing is we don’t have lots of road equipment like Alaska does…but we prepare like y’all do cause we get iced in for days
We are currently in Hawaii on a once in a lifetime vacation. About died when we went grocery shopping. Very expensive. We paid $13.99 for a case of water😮
When preparing for winter and/or winter storm, do you put outside items in a protected area? (e.g., bicycles, outside toys, plastic pails, outside furniture, etc.) Love your prep videos!
This is indeed very heartwarming and very wonderful and very beautiful and very adorable and this brings back great memories of when I use to be a 90s kid and an early 2000s kid and I am a new subscriber as well:).
Id fix him a bag for his truck, with things like beef jerky, cheese sticks, crackers, peanut butter, snacks. My son drives for a living. I keep an emergency bag with him all winter. I also include drinks,a blanket.
You need to be tough to live in Alaska by the look of things well done violett for being so prepared can't imagine a storm like that coming at you we in our spring here and it's hot today but a cold front moving up the island tomorrow 😂
I think men don't worry as much as us women. I live in England 🏴 🇬🇧 and if they say snow, I over prepare with food in case we can't get anywhere because snow shuts everything down. Everyone goes into panic mode 😊🇬🇧
I actually like that answer to your question. "What would you do if I wasn't here"? I need to do that with my son. Doesn't necessarily mean death like people always think. Honest question and something we should all probably install no matter the age! Things happen and need to be dealt with now and not later all the time! Nope. Not over reacting. Where you live and many in the lower 48 with extreme temps and can have a storm blow in predicted or not at any time it is smart! I would throw a sleeping bag in his truck also and maybe a few temperature friendly snacks like crackers and a box of cereal! They may help someone else also. NOTHING wrong with being over prepared. Stay safe!!
It really is a great question to ask! He's so good at making me be the best version of myself and I'm so thankful he always encourages my independence ❤️
Hope that storm, wasn't as bad as predicted. I got gas in my Ford Escape today at Costco. 299.9 for regular, and the premium was 359.9. Vickie from SE Pa
I am a person who would rather be OVER prepared than UNDER prepared. So if it makes you feel any better....I'd probably do just as much if not more...haha. Side note: I don't know where I have been living (probably under a rock) but I just found out who your brother is. haha
It seems your brother and sister in-law don’t think twice about getting out driving in a storm or new snow fall. I’m with you. Nope I’m staying home not even going down one step to get the mail.
Maybe hand and feet warmers would be good to. I think without knowing what situation you might end up in. I don't think you can over prepare. Oh what about those aluminum thin blankets, that keep you really warm. Sorry I can't remember the name.
✍Hello Jessica and Family...I get upset with people who don't prepare ahead of time for any emergency and then they whine about being without whatever...When we owned our permanent camping spot for 30 years we built a pole building around our camper with a wrap around deck and had a 100 gallon propane tank so we could camp all year long if we wanted also the only thing we had to bring was gallons of water plus whatever...When our camp friends or neighbors weren't prepared or was in need of anything they'd come to us no matter what they needed cause we had it... We sold our place 2 years ago but I remember those winters of years ago but my home is also always prepared. I raised my girls (60-55) that way so that now they are ready for anything at anytime of the year or emergency. Jessica you're being a good wife to look out for your husband. Also did you ever think of keeping a sleeping bag in your car or his truck cause It makes, when opened an extra warm blanket and it rolls up and is out of the way. When trying to economize on fuel you could keep your grill propane tank full so you can use it to cook on if needed. Don't Ever think you're over preparing...You're being Smart. I think its sweet that the kids are upset wearing tennis shoes and pajamas to go inside a store. Its so sad there are so many grown ups who wear whatever and have No pride about themselves and wear pajamas as their everyday clothes...Good Night😴 God Bless LuvYa! Bye from Ohio🌹 Please stay safe and warm

We always set up a tent in the living room when the grandsons spent the night with us. Such good memories.
I like keeping my jet boil (camp stove) in my car in the winter as a safety thing. I can cook, make coffee, and I always have a fire starting device;)

Here in North Carolina Kerosene is 6.99 a gallon. That's what I use if the power goes out. You can heat stuff up on the top of the heater.
Stay safe guys.
