Katie and Scott I do hope some kind of agreement will soon be accomplished. It is a pity the owners do not see eye to eye in restoring the cottage to what is should be as it is heritage and in the long run help those old bones in the house to breath. As for your footage etc what ever your limitations on the footage you and Scott just doing what you do and as to who you both are is enough for me. Your humour and banter your discussions no matter what are a delight. Hang in there, give it time. It will come right in the end one way or the other. I love a good howl or snow storm. Good opportunity to sit and read or just bake bread, cookies or cook something homey. After watching The Quiet Man with John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara I’ve wanted a stone cottage but with all of the problems you’ve had maybe not. Whatever you do, stay at the cottage or leave, I’ll support you. Scott, that shop looks like it’s on its last legs and your lucky it didn’t blow away.
Wow, in my next life I want to be a bird that lives on your island! Or maybe I was one in a former life - the drone shots raise some ancient memory in me. Seems almost like the island wants to be left alone to return to wilderness. It's not safe for human habitation anymore. Those old timers must have been really really tough. Dont place a house ahead of your own sanity and physical wellbeing. Surely your patrons can best help you by seeking out suitable jobs and a croft worthy of your efforts in another beautiful part of Scotland with safer living conditions especially as you both get older in future years. Keep trusting God, life is a pilgrimage.
You really do need a community to keep a island life going , that's why so many are abandoned. Population decrease makes life more and more difficult to maintain and when the last leave rewilding of nature is the result.

I live on Whidbey Island, Washington, USA, on the water and we get 60 to 80 mile an hour gales all the time. The roads are full of tree salad and we are picking up everything outside and putting it back up afterwards. Sometimes replacing windows.
I feel as if you two are my neighbors even though you are across the world from me. I truly hope that things get better for the both of you. You have such respect for the island and have worked so hard. I hope that things work out in your favor. We have a few places along Interstate 25 where they actually have wind socks to let the big trucks know it's dangerous to be on the road in high winds with high profile vehicles. We get some winds that will cross that motorway from 80 mph to 110 mph. It picks up what you guys call articulated lorries and blows them off the road flipping them over. It takes 100 year old trees and pulls them up, roots and all, and drops them on houses and cars. Very Wizard of Oz!

I'm so sorry so many trees have been devastated by storms in the past year. I, too, hate to see oaks damaged. In the first decade of this century we suffered through a drought that ended with most of the state on fire in 2011. Ten years later we had a week of sub-zero weather, followed by another winter of freezes and then, in 2023, a terrible ice storm. Branches and trees that had been stressed by drought and freezes, were felled, bringing down electrical lines. The clean up took months. Although we had a lovely wet spring this year that lasted into July we haven't had rain since. Not. A. Drop. There is sure to be more devastation to the Live, burr, and pin oaks that dot our landscape. But your beautiful forest! I agree that an arborist needs to be brought in to husband the forest. Woe to those who see land and forest only as their own personal playground. Genesis tells us that Adam was placed into the garden to "work it and take care of it". Someone is failing at that job and it isn't y'all.

It appears there is a lot of very bad high wounds, and storms everywhere. Mother Earth is not happy. I’ll follow you guy’s wherever you may go but really praying things improve on the island. I see in your next thumb nail that your are leaving the island. If this is true I fully agree with your decision. You are left with no other choice and you will not regret this. Why oh why would you not be allowed to keep the traditional build of this old cottage. Shocking and you both have worked so hard to try and complete this renovation. It's astonishing to me that the owners of this island have not understood your commitment to restoring the cottage. It's also obvious that they have failed in their ownership to maintain the forest and the cottage and have allowed successive very bad additions and repair attempts, which have rendered the cottage in the state it is. I would not blame you for walking away, but I hope that there can be some meeting of the minds and that you can continue. The work is massive. I believe you both have it in you to succeed. Slainte! Love the drone footage. Maybe put a lock on the gate. If that's not doable, get a trail-cam, or two. They don't need electricity. Maybe see who your unwanted visitor is.❤
I just feel emotionally ill with a knot in my own stomach here in the United States. I just can no more find the words than you. Myself maybe I would have just packed up, left it and started over. I don't know. I feel bad for everybody. For you, even for me. Anyway, but I think my favorite thought on your property is the stone path that leads up just past the shed where you have the wood underneath. The Moss covered rocks. It just seems that that's the path you walk up and over the hill out of sight at the end of a sad movie.
Dunno what latch or whatever there is on the open gate but we often have gates open after high winds. I think the wind is capable of doing strange things. It rattles things open and here in the north isles the suction can be more damaging than the gusts.
As I was saying to my landlord only this morning: 'You can't have everything'.“Too often, the landlord-tenant relationship is unbalanced with all the power on the side of unscrupulous landlords.” who in my humble opinion are only interested in themselves and have no conscience. Katie and Scott I do hope some kind of agreement will soon be accomplished. It is a pity the owners do not see eye to eye in restoring the cottage to what is should be as it is heritage and in the long run help those old bones in the house to breath. As for your footage etc what ever your limitations on the footage you and Scott just doing what you do and as to who you both are is enough for me. Your humour and banter your discussions no matter what are a delight. Hang in there, give it time. It will come right in the end one way or the other. I love a good howl or snow storm. Good opportunity to sit and read or just bake bread, cookies or cook something homey. After watching The Quiet Man with John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara I’ve wanted a stone cottage but with all of the problems you’ve had maybe not. Whatever you do, stay at the cottage or leave, I’ll support you. Scott, that shop looks like it’s on its last legs and your lucky it didn’t blow away.

Seems almost like the island wants to be left alone to return to wilderness. It's not safe for human habitation anymore. Those old timers must have been really really tough.
Dont place a house ahead of your own sanity and physical wellbeing. Surely your patrons can best help you by seeking out suitable jobs and a croft worthy of your efforts in another beautiful part of Scotland with safer living conditions especially as you both get older in future years. Keep trusting God, life is a pilgrimage.
You really do need a community to keep a island life going , that's why so many are abandoned. Population decrease makes life more and more difficult to maintain and when the last leave rewilding of nature is the result.
A branch from that blown down tree would make a nice handrail at the shed of doom steps.

I live on Whidbey Island, Washington, USA, on the water and we get 60 to 80 mile an hour gales all the time. The roads are full of tree salad and we are picking up everything outside and putting it back up afterwards. Sometimes replacing windows.
I feel as if you two are my neighbors even though you are across the world from me. I truly hope that things get better for the both of you. You have such respect for the island and have worked so hard. I hope that things work out in your favor. We have a few places along Interstate 25 where they actually have wind socks to let the big trucks know it's dangerous to be on the road in high winds with high profile vehicles. We get some winds that will cross that motorway from 80 mph to 110 mph. It picks up what you guys call articulated lorries and blows them off the road flipping them over. It takes 100 year old trees and pulls them up, roots and all, and drops them on houses and cars. Very Wizard of Oz!

I'm so sorry so many trees have been devastated by storms in the past year. I, too, hate to see oaks damaged. In the first decade of this century we suffered through a drought that ended with most of the state on fire in 2011. Ten years later we had a week of sub-zero weather, followed by another winter of freezes and then, in 2023, a terrible ice storm. Branches and trees that had been stressed by drought and freezes, were felled, bringing down electrical lines. The clean up took months. Although we had a lovely wet spring this year that lasted into July we haven't had rain since. Not. A. Drop. There is sure to be more devastation to the Live, burr, and pin oaks that dot our landscape. But your beautiful forest! I agree that an arborist needs to be brought in to husband the forest. Woe to those who see land and forest only as their own personal playground. Genesis tells us that Adam was placed into the garden to "work it and take care of it". Someone is failing at that job and it isn't y'all.

I see in your next thumb nail that your are leaving the island. If this is true I fully agree with your decision. You are left with no other choice and you will not regret this. Why oh why would you not be allowed to keep the traditional build of this old cottage. Shocking and you both have worked so hard to try and complete this renovation.

It's astonishing to me that the owners of this island have not understood your commitment to restoring the cottage. It's also obvious that they have failed in their ownership to maintain the forest and the cottage and have allowed successive very bad additions and repair attempts, which have rendered the cottage in the state it is.
I would not blame you for walking away, but I hope that there can be some meeting of the minds and that you can continue. The work is massive. I believe you both have it in you to succeed. Slainte!

Anyway, but I think my favorite thought on your property is the stone path that leads up just past the shed where you have the wood underneath.
The Moss covered rocks. It just seems that that's the path you walk up and over the hill out of sight at the end of a sad movie.

Dunno what latch or whatever there is on the open gate but we often have gates open after high winds. I think the wind is capable of doing strange things. It rattles things open and here in the north isles the suction can be more damaging than the gusts.
As I was saying to my landlord only this morning: 'You can't have everything'.“Too often, the landlord-tenant relationship is unbalanced with all the power on the side of unscrupulous landlords.” who in my humble opinion are only interested in themselves and have no conscience.
