If anyone is interested, I have a copy of "From Here to Before" , the marvelous Kieran Evan's documentary about Vashti's travel. Unfortunately it has never been commercialized, but from time to time it pops up on the internet. Last time it did, I've downloaded it. It never was commercialized, sadly - supposedly because it contains some BBC footage, this one in this video in fact - which made it hard to distribute widely. If it will ever be commercialized I'll remove the download link: it's only fair to Vashti and Kieran, but until then I just want to give a chance to see the movie to all those who, like me, searched for it everywhere on the internet for years. Download link is below ;)

She is so delicate and softly spoken! Her music is so whimsical and completely underrated, she deserved more recognition for her absolutely beautiful work. Thank you for uploading!
"i felt I needed to teach them to live in the world that is - and not how I want it to be." that is probably the most important insight for parents who have any ideals at all.
That's a recipe for conservativeship if taken to an extreme, tho. Status quo sometimes needs changing: to teach your kids that things can be different, maybe more similar to what you'd desire, is not wrong. I think that Vashti's adventure ended due to necessities and possibilities: they were on their own in their "revolutionary" adventure - which as they stated wasn't started as a performance but as an heartfelt desire. Thing's tough, as she explained in her movie, and with children on their way, you need to figure out what's best for them as a whole. If they had the possibility to assure them the best while preserving their more unconventional lifestyle, I'd bet they would've done it
@@TheHarryPotters Appreciate the reply, one objection tho: Teaching the kids how to deal with the world as is doesn't prevent you from teaching them how to change things for the better. But you won't do shit if you believe you already live in a perfect world.
@@JosephSchneider26 Absolutely, I agree! The main thing at the end of the day is to teach them to scrutinize the world, to allow them to see it as it really is and then, if they're willing to try, change it
She seems to be a truly wonderful person. Literally. Think about what the word 'wonderful' is really supposed to mean. It gets tossed around way too carelessly. And in the world we find ourselves in, the word 'wonderful' doesn't really apply to all that many things. That's why I'm so inspired, intriged, and enamoured by her.
i discovered her music a few months ago, and i immediately am a fan of her and her music. she has a voice that can calm me down from my anxious thoughts at night, her voice is like a lullaby, her songs puts me to sleep in a good way. I've been looking everywhere for a deeper look into her personality, and her in general because she's just so entrancing, intriguing, she's special, you know? i'm glad i found this video. thankyou so much
Holy shit, she is so inspiring. I can't imagine how stressful it was to not have the Hebridean people be kind to her and then have the record fall through and feel more isolated than ever. Such a poignant reminder of how our ideals can clash with outside world.
Totally agree! I highly suggest you to check out her series of articles on thesocial.com about her travel, the de-romanticization of it but the beauty of it as well! Amazing articles by Vashti herself
I love how completely honest she is here. She doesn't know exactly why she's made the choices that she has, and she isn't going to reduce it to a simple story that will satisfy other people, or herself. That's a rare thing.

I just discovered Vashti on another video. I feel sooooooooo cheated! Had I known about Vashti as a teenager in the mid sixties I would have been heartbroken and crushed that she took off with another man (ok, I was only 17) as I would have fallen madly in love with her. I wish I could have a beautifil family and life like that. What a dream. Instead I have to live a wasted life in the dark choked pits of the City on low wages never achieving status or worth of any kind. That was a time of ideas and art and individuality, and spiritual prosperity. Now is a time of struggle. Back then a man could live in a caravan and still get a woman and two kids. Lol. How crazy. I can barely look after a cat let a lone a wife and kids.
They were lucky, but it wasn't as easy as it sounds. I suggest you to take a look at the articles in the description, wrote by Vashti herself, or maybe the movie about her travel. It's down in the comment. They took all the risk of living a truly anticapitalist life and, in the end, they couldn't make it. They had to go back to a more common life. I blame this torturing system that enslaves us on the altar of productivity above all else.

Think for yourself, do what you want to do, don't let doubt bring you down. You don't want to live in city? Fucking move out stop being a bitch if your life is shit then fix it.
