I’ve had km184s for ten years. They just provide more reality in a pleasing way. They’re definitely worth the money if you’re trying to do anything professional.
I had high hopes for Sennheiser, but after listening to this video I was surprised at the huge difference in sound quality.
Neumann is absolutely amazing.
I especially felt that the quality of the drum recording was completely different.
Persuasive power, presence, and natural dynamics!!
I felt that this was the difference between a professional and an amateur.

Thanks for the test! It was very useful. Neumann is more clear and truthful to my hearing. I think it is an advantage for drums, but guitar sounds more warmer through Sennheiser and I love it.

Fantastic video! This was very informative. I already have a mic from Sennheiser's evolution series and I must say this e614 kinda has the same warm vibe. I like the clarity of the nuemann on drum overheads, but the 614 will sure help keep the acoustic from sounding to shrill in the high end. For home recording I would take the e614 and not look back.

Totally agree. I prefer my 614s on my flamenco guitar over KM184s much more realistic in high en freq and just as warm as the Neumann.
Been using my 614 for over 10 years and my go to for concert setting on my flamenco guitar. All the venues I play at have KM184s but it doesn't have the same gain as the 614 IMO probably due to the super cardiod setting. Its an excellent condenser mic especially for live band setting.
Neumann's more sparkle... but nothing wrong with the Sennheisers at all, especially looking at the price & what you save....
Great review I just went with the Sennheiser mainly will be using it for acoustic for my purposes I cannot see spending that kind of money on the Neumann perhaps if you have a professional studio and money is no object I could see it but I think for the money you could still get great results with the Sennheiser which by the way owns Neumann from what I understand.
Correction advice: Actually Sennheiser is the parent company of Neumann. Great video btw.

what's your take on both since you edited it and listened without the youtube compression etc..? I really didn't notice an $1100 diff that couldn't be fixed in post/eq but what says you? I think the Senn e614 will be more versatile because of its polar pattern ( indoor talking head interview ( boomed overhead ), live band micing and studio fidelity etc.. I am interested in your opinion though.
different strokes for different needs - as overheads the neumans picked up more of the rest of the kit as compared to the sennheisers. that could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your needs. Fidelity wise, they seemed pretty similar. thats promising.
I believe the Senns are supercards.

Men I Trust used a Neumann KM184 for Emma's vocals in their garage session
The neumann is more less boomie in my ears and more dynamic or articulated than sennheiser, but for the price point hmm..maybe the neumann made for people who need instant final sound, no post prod, just IMO. Nice compare btw..👍🍺

The gain on the Sennheisers was higher than the Neumann mics - hard to tell as a result.
Totally much higher gain on the Senns over Neumanns. I had a direct comparison at my local venue for a concert setting. Even the sound engineer was impressed.
The Neumanns sound a little bit clearer but the overall sound is not $1100 in daylight difference.
Neumann is fantastic but price point???? Sennheiser is more accesible. If you have a budget about 1.5-2 k usd Neumann is the best. I wonder what u think about akg c214??
I mean, the Neumanns are noticeably clearer but we're talking an $850 mic vs a $150 mic. Apples to oranges.
