Thnx! Conclusion: every mic. has its purpose. In the first part I would say Shure. In the strum part I would go for the 4033. The neumann can sound so much fuller and sweeter then in this clip. I especially like it on nylon strings. On steel strings it does colour too much.
I totally agree with you.. a purpose for every mic.. But I've never.. NEVER been able to make the 184 work for me.. As a matter of fact I got rid of it
The 4033 reflects it's brightened mid-range frequency response (compare charts). In a blind test would be hard to tell difference between the shure and neumann......the neumann perhaps a click richer in the lower resonances.....nice test
Thanks for the effort. This is a great lineup with the KM184 being the benchmark, the 137 the workhorse, and the 4033a the LDC workhorse. Maybe a little better tuning would be helpful. It’s a lil difficult to get past it while listening. Everyone’s a critic ;-) Thanks again.
Funny, I have a 4033 and was considering buying a km184 but I think this may have changed my mind. I much like the Neumann but the 4033 is the fullest, nice mid presence. Ksm137 is sucked out and toppy , get an sm81 instead if you want a more true sound from shure.

Yeah I think the Shure has the others beat. I have a couple AT4033a mics, and they aren't bad. But the Shure seems better in this case. The Neumann was disappointing.
Everybody seems to be choosing the mic that their EAR prefers over a compressed RUclips video listening to it on a LAPTOP SPEAKER or their iPhone. Sound reproduction is highly technical no one understands. Remember you're paying 1,000 $ for a KM187.
good observation, but if you listen in a good headphones you can REALLY hear the difference.. That said, a good mic - GOOD mic - does a great job like another..

or maybe your sound taste is different?.. there is no "best" there is only "the best for MY taste".. Neumanns are great.. so are the others.. it all depends on what sound you need. Oh.. listening on 12 driver inears and also tried on 2 different over ears headphones (studio quality). Shures are still awesome, as are the others.

The KSM137 sounds very clean and pure imho. Love it.
Another mics comparison, this time with two of the most interesting small diaphgram condenser.. listen with HEADPHONES if you can, in hd full..

neumann sounded softer and warmer even on my phone speaker.
