born in 87, i was sooo stoked to see new characters, like smoke, cyrax, jax, and sheeva in a live action movie.
I love how everyone calls this movie terrible. When I was 8 years old, I found this to be the best movie ever. The fight scenes and music were so cool, it didn't matter how cheesy some of the movie is. You loved it no matter what.
And then......we suddenly grew up and realised that this is a crap.

I realize I'm replying to a 2 year old comment but...gimme a break. lol It has nothing to do with getting "bitter" as you get older as much as it does becoming more objectively conscious cause your mind is developing. I mean, yeah kids are easier to entertain at that age but I don't really see how that somehow means something's not bad which is kind of the implication I'm getting here, cause well...anything can entertain a kid if they're young enough (although I do think people sell the discerning capability of children a bit short sometimes.)
I was about eleven when I saw this and even then I didn't like it, cause I remembered the first film which was pretty solid...so it suddenly becoming this was obvious even to a kid. Eleven's still pretty young, but I'd think its well before being a "jaded adult", but it's worlds apart from ages 5-8 in terms of sheer awareness.
So in other words, I don't see the point being made here.
Hearing Kahn calling out each of the names brings back memories of the 3rd game and Ultimate MK. Ahh the memories. :)

Saw this movie for the first time when I was 4, I loved it, now I'm 19 watching this movie over, and I still love it. I honestly thought it was a good movie in my opinion

Despite a few flaws, I did enjoy Mortal Kombat 2. But 1995's Mortal Kombat is my favourite film. Paul W.S Anderson did a better job directing Mortal Kombat more than his crappie Resident Evil films!
You guys have to admit though, if you really look at it and how greatly the song's timed with the clips, this REALLY was an EPIC trailer. This movie was one of the BEST action movies of the 90s in my opinion, my brother, aunt, mom and I LOVED watching this when I was little, as well as the first movie, it was one of the action movies that ROCKED my childhood. I'm 16 now and STILL find the trailer epic. This movie really wasn't all that bad, okay now that I look at it I realized they twisted-

I saw this movie from my childhood, and I loved it I don't care what anyone says about this movie this was forever my childhood, even though I didn't like the part with Johnny Cage being killed, but I loved the action, the scenes with Jade, and the soundtracks to this. To all the haters that commented haters going to hate screw u!!, and to those who have seen this from your childhood feel free to express your feeling on what you liked, or think of the movie.

I saw the movies as a kid... 2nd one has always been my favorite too the 1st. The fighting was more realistic and free-flowing.

I have a confession this movie is a guilty pleasure for me. I know it's not a good movie but I still enjoy it. And I have to admit it I think the trailer is better than the actual movie. But I still like this movie even if it is bad.
This film is hilariously bad. The first one was not extraordinary (though I personally loved it), but the sequel is like a porn parody without the sex. Watch the video titled "How Mortal Kombat Annihilation Sucked!" if you wanna laugh.
It's fun to watch though because of how cheesy it is, plus the fights are decent. I especially enjoyed Sonia vs Mileena in the mud... for some reason.
Yeah definitely. While the first one was indeed cheesy as hell; it was still a good movie for what it was.

looks good . even though i never watched it i was so excited when it came out in cinemas .i was 9 at that time and nobody took me to movies .lol
i was born in 93 and saw this for the first time when i was about 6 or 7, maybe 8, And you know what? I loved it. More than the first movie. Fast forward ten years and after watching both movies a total of 15 times over the course of my life (lifelong hardcore fan) I can safetly say this movie is a steaming pile of... yeah. The two movies have actually switched standings in my head.

This is a perfect example of why I don't trust or get hyped over trailers anymore. If I would of seen this trailer before this movie came out I would of been really excited to see this movie. The movie sucks huge balls but this trailer did a good job at trying to make the movie look good.

If Sub-Zero, Cage, Nightwolf, Rain, and Jade had been given larger roles, it would've been better. Also, there was supposed to be an extensive fight scene between Raiden and Sheeva that was cut. It shouldn't've been. The movie itself is decent. If New Line Cinema and Netherrealm Studios remade the movie and learned from their mistakes, it would be a hit.
Alot of people hate on this movie but I think it was alright. Like many say it was cool to watch as a kid..and come on you know these 2 mortal kombat movies have fared better than most of the other video game based movies. I'd take MK annilihation over Doom anyday. This was the 90's though..if they made one nowadays it'd be awesome
I like the fact that the movie tried to incorporate a lot of characters but the cast, acting and some of the costumes caused this movie to suck it up. I still love MK but I think the glory days of the series ended with MK3 but at least I'll still have my memories.

Fan trailers are always leaps above the real ones. This was one of the worst movies I've ever seen, but the trailer makes it look exciting and in-depth. Great job.

I know a lot of people hated this movie...but i have to say that i loved it a whole lot...it's easy to say now that with new special effects this could have been done better...but at the time that was released this was quite good...i mean these mk movies rocked my childhood and now i just miss them so much...i want mk back and more loyal to the original game

MK3 (the game) was all based on Outworld and Earth merging. This trailer made it look like that premise would be an integral part of the movie. Instead, all we saw in the movie of Earth and Outworld merging... were the same scenes we already saw in the trailer.
The two movies are very difference. To see the sequel you ought to see the prequel. The first shouts the Mortal Kombat story, the Tournament, bla bla... The second is the about taking the story to next level. " Alrught now we've got here, What do we have to do". So they had to introduce more characters, more fight.

@HakuAndYukichi, I agree, they DEFINETELY messed up the avatar film, I didn't even see it but after my mom read about it to me I realized the director went a bit out of proportion with it. He made it TOO serious, I heard he messed up aang's character too, and from what I saw in the trailer, aang was pretty dramatic and serious. I mean okay, he still seemed like that sweet kid when I saw him hug katara, but I heard the director made aang less cheerful, relaxed, and hyperactive and child like-
I still laugh at the quality of visual effects back in those days... haha If they remake these movies now it would be a thousand times better...

Apart from being generally regarded as a classic example of bad filmmaking, this movie was partially responsible for causing the Mortal Kombat franchise to lose strength during the late '90s.
In the first draft, Kabal and Stryker are shown as Kahn's Slaves/Prisoners at the Cobalt mines of Shokan, Kitana was Caged there instead of Kahn's fortress, Kabal, Stryker, and other prisoners fight off the Shokan prison guards to help Liu, Jax, Sonya, and Rayden rescue Kitana, Liu Kang battles Jade before Battling Kahn, and Ermac only fights Sonya.
this one was a real deception, i can wait until 2010 to see if they can repair the hole that they made on our hearts, i hope

Truth be told... it didn't matter WHO they cast as Raiden in this movie... NO ONE was gonna be able to top Christopher Lambert.
I'll never forget when I saw this movie in the theater with my older brother and he literally fell asleep watching it. I wish I fell asleep too. The sequel was nothing more than a bunch of brain-dead fighting scenes tacked together and the Sonia Malina mud-wrestling moment brought martial-arts films to a whole new low.
I'm glad it tanked at the box office but that won't bring back the 15 dollars my brother blew on the tickets.

This movie hit a downfall when they changed Raiden and killed Johnny Cage. And then killed Raiden after he turned mortal. And then he became a God and was immortal again lol.

The red ninja is Ermac. He used to look just like sub-zero, scorpion, reptile etc, to save memory in the game but he's since been given a new look and a more fleshed out story.
I personally loved the first movie! It is the best movie ever made to me. This movie though... I never want to see it. They changed raiden, johnny cage, and sonya. Really? The first ones were awesome! Christopher Lambert was the perfect raiden, and in the first movie raiden had the best movie voice EVER!! They also changed the costumes. Scorpion has a red tablecloth.
It's kind of a shame that the trailer did the movie more justice than the movie itself.
This could have been a decent sequel, if only they had taken a little more time on the scriptwriting and editing of this film.
They should have just kept the characters from MK2 only, with the exception of Sheeva, and sindel, take ermac out, have Sonya fight Sheeva in the end, Have Kung Lao fight someone(maybe Barraka), and Have Liu Kang win the final fight by turning into the MK2 dragon.

You know, two things would have made this movie a lot better:
1. Having the guy who voiced Shao Khan in the games voice Shao Khan in the movie. Imagine the first time the heroes hear an entire monologue from this guy.
2. Have the woman who played Sheeva in the movie wear the same outfit as Sheeva in the game. Why do the stop-motion puppets get the skimpiest outfits? That's just wrong, people.

This movie was pretty similar to Ultimate MK3 and Johnny Cage wasn't in it so he had to die. In the original script to this movie though was that he was suppose to come back alive at the end.
