This is still my favorite movie from video game. Great cast and really good job for creating atmosphere from MK I game. And this was not filled with too many characters from game like crappy Annihilation.
even with the reboot on the works and technology more advanced than 1995, i doubt they will ever be able to top this movie. Best game adaptation ever. Sub Zero and Scorpions entrance was memorable. Cary tagawa as shang tsung was perfection. Linden ashby as cage fucking incredible. christopher lambert as raiden..it wasnt spot on but he def was very entertaining to watch. and the reptile and liu kang fight scene is f'n epic. best movie of 1995
@WildTengu i really agree. the "Street Fighter 2: The Animated Movie" was one of the Street-Fighter movies that just simply KICKED *ASS*!, :-D (especially the Ryu-versus-Sagat fight at the beginning, with the hadoken ending, AND the Chun-Li-versus-Vega fight :-D )

I think Rayden's lisp or accent is due to the actor's voice. Christopher Lambert played him, he's the guy who did all the Highlander movies. I just think thats his voice.
I enjoyed the first Mortal Kombat movie, but I almost walked out of the sequel (I was just getting up to walk out when it finished - its not exactly a long movie!)
I don't know. I agree in that I usually want movies based off of games, literature, etc. to follow the ORIGINAL plot and mythology. But I feel the first one had enough explanations in its plot to at least make sense out of the movie. The second movie tried wayyyy too hard to followed the mythology and thus was ridiculous. Non-MK fans would not be able to understand a thing; and MK fans familiar with the stories would still say it was badly directed.
Maybe. I wouldn't be able to say for sure. Character changes do throw things off in sequels, but if a movie is good enough, its not something a person would really notice. At least, that's my opinion.

Wooooooooow! They could've made this trailer so much better! They reveal way too much outrightly, they shouldn't have shown Sub Zero and Scorpion til way later and given a better initial build up. The narration is straight gold and the trailer does become insanely awesome after the song kicks in and the characters are shown in sync with it. The fans saw characters looking like they recognized from the game, and that this was something close to what they liked. No bullshit.
I still remember a couple of lines that made the movie to me, when they travel to the other dimension - "This is a very hostile environment and everybody seems to be wanting to kick our asses" - "Sounds like high school all over again"

When I saw this as a little girl, I didn't like it much. No offense, I just prefer the game to this movie. Same with Street Fighter. But dear god is that song addictive.

Anybody else notice that the lighting in the Liu Kang and Sub-Zero fight is different than it was in the actual movie. In the film everything was tinted blue...in the trailer, it's all brown and normal.
For a movie based on a video game I think it was pretty cool. It was awesome especially to see the characters in real life, right?! Now, Annihilation (Mortal Kombat 2) SUCKED. A conclusion? Mortal Kombat 1 : Great Mortal Kombat 2 : Crap
lol now that i think of it, new line cinema must have been my favorite studio as a kid. fuckin ninja turtles and mortal kombat!!! lol, they were the only ones willing to put effort into these titles nobody else would touch.
Its one of those movies that you can watch over and over again... It is just great.
