  • "Foxy" Gloria knows all the moves! Merely opening the door shows her prowess!! Mr. M is hopelessly ensnared, (so 50's!) by her abilities! The rest is a downhill ride for Bob; a fly in a tantalizing web! Horsie stuff is just icing on the cake!!

Yes, she's completely fascinating--Gloria reminds of a cat--you never know which way she's going to jump! And that's one mark of a fascinating screen figure--surprises---Mitchum is, in many ways, her masculine double---Perfect match--what's better than one cat? Two!

Related to a former KING OF ENGLAND on her father's side, and to Scottish royalty on her mother's side. A very intelligent, sexy, talented actress, with a unique unforgettable screen presence !!!

Both are sizzling in this movie, what chemistry! Mitchum was such a hot man's MAN & Grahame was his match.Wish they had starred in a great big noir together; now that would have been something to see..

      John Yohalem Hi John Yohalem!
I'm honored to hear from you. This little bit of heaven doesn't get much play, but thanks to you it's climbed one more step on the ladder. Apparently it was one of the wildest productions ever filmed. It's "rumored" that 75 pct of the cast were serious alcoholics! I was about to post some wild stories, but I want to stay on YT. Please, at your leisure, look up some of the demented lore and things that happened on this film set! There's even talk about one performer chewing off another performer's toupee! Great fun, and more so to have heard from you!
      Best regards,
      varadero

What a thrill! I'm so glad to hear from you, and our mutual appreciation of Ms. Grahame! Her career was cut way too short, and I miss her acting, sultry ways, and incredible ability to adapt to any role! She could be a seductress, sex-pot or literally ride an elephant! There was very little she couldn't do! I miss her sensuality, intellect, and unique appearance. Also, she could ride the hell out of a horse! Maybe that was the Brit showing through! I suspect she really was royalty! Thank you!!

I've seen a few Robert Mitchum films... each one was different in theme, yet held my interest from beginning to end ... This film is now added to my "must see" list ... Gloria Grahame -- so enticing -- love how she commands a man's attention 👀

Thanks so much for your comment! I was never aware of the sister/brother marriage connection that existed. Either way, maybe just me, but I think this is one of the sexiest clips, compilations ever filmed. Favorite scene is the greeting, when Gloria opens the door and Robert's mouth falls open!

@bashbrannigan Who knows? Maybe that's why he signed on! First, he could put their lights out, then later patch 'em up in the operating room! It's still fun to see Mr. M and Ms. G "sparring!" My favorite part, and I've said this before, is how he freaks when she opens the door! Thanks so much for your comment.

Glad you liked this unclealand! Good girls ain't no fun! Gloria was one of the best "bad" girls on film, and given what I've read of her, in real life! She was unique! How many stars have married both father, then son? I also love her self-depricating line, "Sucker!" The last scene here is classic piggy Hollywood! Just wonderful! Thanks so much for writing!

I've read about her issues/insecurities about her lip and how she'd stuff it... I've never noticed it until this clip. It does seem stiff or odd. I bet she was fine without stuffing it. I'm sorry she didn't realize how pretty she was in her looks (LOOKS).

Netflix kind of sucks. There are many 1940s, 50s and 60s films that haven't gone to DVD yet, and Netflix only has DVD, no VHS film formats. Many of the best films from these decades are lost because of this. Even libraries are thinning out their collection of VHS's.

Ms. G earned worked hard for every penny she got! Here's an actress who married a director, divorced him, then married his son, by a previous marriage. She had 1 child by the father, and 2 by his son! Gotta Love Her! Gloria was incredibly talented, unique, and unforgettable; not to mention an Oscar Winner for best supporting actress in "The Bad and The Beautiful!" She was also distantly related to the British Royal Family, on her father's side.

      Hi yootuba,
I'm answering this on YT because after about 11 years I'm still a novice with so many methods. I'm best at YT. I'm delighted that this clip pleased you; especially this scene! I'm glad you found and enjoyed this "torrid" scene near the stables! It's so "50's!" Apparently you know the film. I'm still startled by bleached-blonde Olivia deHavilland in the role of a "Scandawegian" nurse! I don't mean the last as a put down, or racial insult. I just can't remember from whence she came in this role! As always, she was superb, long-suffering, with RM as her husband, and the finest of actresses. She's now 100, and living in Paris! Let's wish her well!
      Grateful to hear from you,
      varadero

varadero1839 She's probably Swedish since she invites the doctor to a "smorgasbord" which is a Swedish word. She is very good in this role. I wouldn't have recognized her AT ALL but for the film credit. Gloria Grahame is good too.

She really looked so different as a blonde! I've been a big Gloria fan for years, and I've posted several of her clips here on YT. Here she is in one of her classically trashy roles!

@unclealand I think it's a toss-up between her calling herself "Sucker," and meeting Bob in the paddock! It's all deliciously tawdry, and so 50s! Thanks again for your knowledgeable observations. I read that George Antheil was the composer; I think a beautiful score! Will try to research more and let you know. Thanks so much!

I first saw this movie many years ago, when I was a teenager. It's funny, but I always assumed when Gloria said "sucker" she was referring to Bob Mitchum. Kind of like she's suckering him into cheating on his wife. But in a sense her saying that was a bit confusing to me. I guess it makes more sense that she's referring to herself by saying this, but it's still somewhat ambiguous. Don't you think??

This is a clip from "Not As a Stranger," 1955. I hope you enjoyed it. Gloria was up against Academy Award winner, Olivia de Havilland in this movie. For the time it was very hot, and I think it got good reviews and made $$$. Some record company must have thought it was good too. Frank Sinatra was in the film; non-singing role, but well-acted.
If you have time, please watch foxy Gloria, accompanied by Mr. S. This is one great song from the show that they turned into a latin-beat song. Frank could sing the phone book, and Gloria was the only party girl! Please look:
