Also NOW I'm starting to wonder how no one sees that Clark Kent is Superman. He was being SO obvious! Lol

I saw this in a dollar theater back in the day. The theater was half full when the film started. As soon as the end credits started I stood up. A voice from behind and above said "you leaving?" I responded with "yes." The film then stopped and the house lights came up. I was the only one in the audience! The questioning voice was the projectionist. By the way the score was adapted and had new music added by Alexander Courage, who composed the theme to the original Star Trek series back in the 60s.

Yeah! Superman 4: The Quest For Peace has arguably isn't the best Superman movie ever made out there.
But it's a necessity to at least give it a watch and understand why those people were considering as the weakest Superman movie to everyone's popular opinion on it.

Yeah, the "Nuclear Bomb" of the franchise. The Batman Franchise would almost follow suit the same way of goofiness. A lot has been said about this one. By this moment, Christopher Reeve was done as Superman, but Canon Films made a deal with him. Canon Films agree to his idea of nuclear disarmament story if they help finance Street Smart (1987) Staring Reeve and Co Staring Morgan Freeman. Check it out #Kayreacts. So, this was well characterized by Reeve as Superman, but it was also "political messaging" like today [understatement]. But despite its lack of luster, Christopher Reeve left behind a promptment legacy as a heroic character inside and out of character of Superman. Christopher Reeve was always Superman. RIP Christopher Reeve.

So many logic defying moments in this movie. The biggest one is how in the hell did Mariel Hemingway’s character survive being in space? Not only would she not be able to breathe, but it is deathly cold up there. And let’s not forget that she would have burned up coming in from orbit!

As long as you're willing to watch cheesy Superman films, you may as well watch Helen Slater in the 1984 Supergirl film. It's the same universe as the Christopher Reeve Superman.
Jimmy Olsen from the Christopher Reeve Superman films stars in it. The film has a more fantasy feel rather than a heroic feel of the Christopher Reeve films. Supergirl must fight an evil witch who is able to bring forth the phantom zone because she has access to a Kryptonian orb and manipulates it to do her bidding.
Supergirl's altter ego is Linda Lee. She attends an all girl private school. Her roommate is Lucy Lane. Lois's sister. As cheesy as it is, it's leaps better than Superman IV!! Lol. -OG

Superman IV is way better than Jaws The Revenge. At least Superman IV is a fun movie with Reeve delivering strong. Jaws The Revenge is just terrible, and feels unnecessary. People tend to forget that Revenge is an alternate universe direct sequel to the first Jaws. The superior Jaws 2 didn't happen, and neither did the stupid but fun Jaws 3. Rendering Revenge as a giant waste of time. The nicest thing I can say about Revenge is that at least it's technically a movie unlike Sharknado, Piranha and Meg.

I would encourage you to watch the Brandon Routh 2006 Superman Returns. This is supposed to be a sequel to Superman II and forgets III & IV ever happened.
Brandon Routh does an amazing 👏 job emulating the Christopher Reeve Superman. Kevin Spacey, likewise, does an amazing job emulating the old Gene Hackman Lex Luthor.
It's directed by Bryan Singer, who consulted a lot with the late Richard Donner to make this film.
But my favorite live-action Superman next to Christopher Reeve is actually Henry Cavill. Henry doesn't try to emulate the mannerisms of another actor who portrayed Superman like Routh did for Reeve. But to be fair, Routh was literally supposed to be emulating Reeve.
Cavill is still true to who the Superman character is. So, if you're willing to simply see another take on the same character, then I would encourage you to watch the 2013 Man of Steel Superman! You won't regret it. -OG

As you clearly noticed, the budget went way down for this movie. For all the flak the Salkinds get for firing Richard Donner and going for a way more comedic route in Superman III, they had a certain understanding of what it took to make a Superman movie. At this point, the rights had gone to the Cannon group, who clearly didn't. Originally, "Nuclear Man" was supposed to be played by Christopher Reeve as well, but the budget wouldn't allow the effect of having him interacting with himself. That also explains the weird magic Great Wall of China rebuilding vision, which was much simpler to shoot than having Superman fix it with his usual speed, strength and flying powers.
Then they suddenly wanted the runtime cut by a third, so theatres would fit in more showings. That would greatly increase the revenue, they thought. On top of it all, they had the audacity to suggest that the deleted footage could be saved for the next movie, because apparently, all scenes in a Superman movie are interchangeable anyway. That explains the extremely choppy editing.
Cut out was, among other things, a failed first attempt at the Nuclear Man, and a plotline of Nuclear Man getting a fancy for that journalist lady whose name i don't remember either, with only the scene of him flying in space with her remaining.
But maybe that was just as well. Those extra scenes certainly couldn't save the movie.
Best known case of one person being two people at the same time at a dinner, has to be Robin Williams in Mrs. Doubtfire. 😊

    • @josephcasanova1975
      @josephcasanova1975 Год назад

The rights just didn't go to Cannon. Ilya Salkind sold it to Golan who thought it would mean dollar signs to Cannon. He thought that every movie he put out was the next blockbuster or academy award. Some of the small budget films Cannon put out actually made money.

Others have already mentioned Cannon Pictures' deal with Reeve, and it was Menahem Golan throwing money at ambitious would-be "A" movies like "Masters of the Universe" and Sylvester Stallone in "Over the Top" that ultimately destroyed the studio...Obviously, by 1987, there wasn't enough money left for this one. There's a great documentary, "Electric Boogaloo", that traces the rise and fall of Golan/Globus' iconic footprint on the face of 80's movies.

Christopher Reeve had a much larger scale message he wanted to get across in this movie about war and the arms race, etc. Unfortunately, he was met with a ton of resistance that a Superman film should not parallel the issues of reality.
The film suffered major budget cuts. The ridiculous nephew of Lex Luthor and the whole "Nuclear Man" thing was all made up to sort of downplay the seriousness of the topic. As a result, the movie played out much like a Saturday morning cartoon and not given the weight Christopher Reeve really wanted. -OG

It's by no means the greatest Superman movie of them all but it's certainly a guilty pleasure of mine and it's the first Supes movie i watched sometimes you just have to put the logic aside and just roll with it and enjoy it.
The two scenes from this movie that still bothers me to this day is how did Lacey survive in space without a space suit she would had been dead frozen with in seconds also getting out and entering the earth's atmosphere she would had been fried.
Superman wiping Lois memory of him being Clark Kent and Superman and rebuilding the great wall of China with his laser eyes makes no sense they are powers Superman has never had in the comics.

I really didn't think you'd watch this one. Well, maybe I HOPED you wouldn't. Anywho... most of the problems in this film are due to lack of budget. Wall of China Vision? Didn't have the money to show Supes rebuilding it at super speed. Same (poor) video of Supes flying used several times? No money to shoot more flying scenes. I could go on and on. Superman IV may have been weighed down by production trouble and cut budgets, but because of Reeve and all of it's true Superman moments, it's more of a Superman film than the dour, pretentious, dumb and idiotic catshit Man of Steel.
One of my favorite scenes in Superman IV has to be Kal's double date with Lois and Lacey. It's a testament to Reeve's masterclass acting and timing, not to mention the lovely charms of both Kidder and Hemingway. It's also highly effective of the movie to underscore the fact that Superman is a WORLD hero, not just an American one. The character has come a long way since the original film.

Mariel Hemingway cast as the tycoon's daughter to be a would-be femme fatale/ Lois Lane rival who has the hots for Clark but not Superman, is absurd and comical. Since Nuclear Man was created from Supes' DNA, then both he and Supes' would be attracted to her? Don't even get me started with the Great Wall scene. There's no suspension of disbelief because there's nothing in the story that's remotely believable.

Thanks #KayReacts for the full Reeve Superman series.
Lois remembered Kal-El's name because Lex used it in #2.
The premise of this 4th film is cheesy & really poor. I see it as Hollywood anti-nuke propaganda written by amateurs. Cheap script = bigger profits. But I'm biased... 0 points for believable science tidbits - why can't comics & sci fi slip in a little truth?. Actually, the best way of ridding the planet of warheads is to downblend into reactor fuel - we'd have 10K years of societal enabling energy! Documentaries like Pandora's Promise (2013) or Oliver Stone's new film explain why.

The worst Superman movie that Snyder had nothing to do with.
Clark lives in Metropolis, Superman is a worldwide (and beyond) hero who speaks many languages.
Zod, Ursa and Non were talking in space in Superman 2. It makes no sense at all, but you just have to accept it as a Kryptonian ability in these movies, lest you go mad. I'm more curious as to how Lacey can survive in space...
    Masonry vision!
"How did he know he wanted what's-her-name?" This movie has plot holes big enough to drive a bus through. It came out when I was 10 and even back then I was rolling my eyes.
For more good Superman stuff I recommend the first 7 or 8 Fleischer cartoons (they're all great but they came out during WWII so the design of some of the Asian bad guys in the later episodes is very cringey), Superman VS the Mole Men, Superfriends, the 1988 Ruby Spears cartoon, Lois & Clark, the whole Superman TAS/Batman TAS/Mask of the Phantasm/Batman Beyond/Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker/Zeta Project/Static Shock/Gotham Girls/Sub Zero/Mystery of the Batwoman/Brainiac Attacks/Justice League/Justice League Unlimited/Justice League Vs The Fatal Five animated universe, the Legion of Super Heroes animated series, the Harley Quinn animated series, Justice League: New Frontier, Superman Vs The Elite, All Star Superman, Superman: Red Son, Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths, Superman: Man of Tomorrow, Battle of the Super Sons, Justice League Action and Superman and Lois.
