A lot of these cuts are being made for economic reasons.. Some scenes added unnecessary complexity to the plot. increasing screen time can affect how many showtimes in a day which can hurt the bottom line if the don't add to the film.. Some were just really bad special effects especially in s.3 and s.4 where they really cut budgets. Good special effects (by those day's standards) cost a lot of money . Some were just plain dumb. Kid in outer space with superman waving at yelling cosmonaut on space ship. Lol. For Superman 4, virtually the entire movie was crap. It should have never made that movie. It was obviously just a cash grab by whomever bankrolled it. The execs that fund films, are similar to those that produce consumer products. They all want to make money but some also want to make a good product. Others are just trying to trick consumers into buying what they know is crap to make a quick buck

The producers of S-4 should have realized that Lois cannot fly by herself, or the whole Mariel Hemingway's Lacey flying in space with the whole no oxygen in space, and burning to a crisp upon entering Earth's atmosphere.

Agreed 100%. I really liked the vision this movie had... a shame what happend to it. But I get the feeling that if done right, this film can be redone and fixed for the most part, if someone has the balls to actually put in the effort. I didn't like the part (or the idea of) when Frankenstein Jr. fights Superman, it's too goofy for my taste, but everything else is a bonus and explains stuff that left me wondering wth was going on as a kid.

I bet she treasures this and all of her memories of him. I understand his older son Matthew was in the film as well in another deleted scene, but I'm not sure what the scene was.

They almost had something with the car-crushing scene. I mean, those cars looked like real physical objects, and crunched together pretty convincingly (better even than a lot of today's CGI).

As horrific as Superman IV: The Quest For Peace, was, imagine how much worse it could have been if they had decided to use this crap. I remember going to the cinema back in the eighties with my friend to watch this and couldn't be happier at the time, especially as I went to see the united nations scene being filmed at the Milton Keynes new railway building, (at least I think it was a railway building)so I was really pumped for it and as a kid I really loved it regardless, because I loved Christopher Reeve as Superman. Easily my biggest childhood hero, who became only second to Bruce Lee once I became a teenager. I remember finding the part in the movie where Superman is dying from radiation sickness from his fight with Nuclear Man, quite sad and disturbing as a child. Quite Ironic that only 5-6 yrs later Chris would become paralyzed from an equestrian accident and then despite his heroic efforts would later die around a decade later and his beloved widow would then join him very shortly after around two years later from lung cancer and a broken heart. God Bless them both. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Chris, in making my childhood a memorable one. God Bless You, Brother. We Love and Miss You Very Much🙏
Apparently when Nuclear Man is putting everyone on red alert he literally turned himself into a nuclear missile. Now of all the things that were cut, I think seeing what he looked like as the missile would be very interesting
It's in the script and the comic books that way. The script description sounds bad. his eyes and mouth are still on the nose cone of the missile. So it would be a lot like Plastic Man or Mr. Fantastic stretching into something. In a remaster of the movie, I would just put a missile-shaped cone of fire around him with a smoke trail, still letting you see his body in the center of it.

Now maybe the best you can do is have him flamed on in a cone of fire and have the fire disappear when he sees Lacy.

@@404TVfr The Metro Club is a big section in the script. Lots of dialogue between Lacy and Clark. She says women never get swept off their feet anymore, and Clark hovers her an inch off the ground, which seems like a dumb idea vis a vis his secret identity. Nuke Man 1 breaks the bouncers' necks to get in, and this is where he sees Lacy and falls in love with her. The memory of his genetic material is supposed to be why the second Nuke Man loves Lacy. Clark turns into Superman to race in a newlywed couple past the bouncers who weren't allowed in. This is when the drunk lady randomly grabs Nuke Man 1 and takes him outside and this deleted scene begins. Superman hears her scream from inside the club and ditches Lacy to check it out.
I’ve heard rumors that when the director of Superman IV submitted his version of the film to Warner Bros., it was around 135 minutes; makes it somewhere over 2 hours and 15 minutes. But because of the issues with Golan-Globus and the budget of the movie, it was trimmed to a runtime of an hour and a half. When Warner Bros. acquired these deleted scenes for the 2006 DVD rerelease of the Superman movies; there also was that 135 minute work print of the film. It would have to take a lot for the studio to make this cut available on home media. They’ve relented with the Donner Cut and the Snyder Cut; the International Cut of Supergirl, and they’ve released a TV cut of Superman: The Movie. Unless they’re planning to release this work print along with the TV Cut of Superman II and III, we’re gonna have to wait and hope.
I think the problem is, unlike Superman 1 and 2 (which are beloved classics) and Justice League (for which there was a massive campaign), or even Supergirl, which has its own cult following, Superman IV is hardly anybody's favourite, and they might be reluctant to do much more with it than the occasional remaster and releasing deleted material if they feel it might not be worth the profit. It's a shame because it COULD turn around the film's general conception....but it might just be more work than they're willing to put in.
I actually heard the tornado scene and the Russian scene were originally released in theaters along with the film, but for some weird reason, Warner Bros. took it out of their DVD release. It makes me wonder why.

Stallone spent time during the Pandemic to work on a Director's Cut of Rocky IV. It was a shame that Warner Archive couldn't have used a similar opportunity to work on an extended cut of IV as I am sure the film still has a fanbase and would have been a fitting tribute to the late Christopher Reeve to showcase his final performance as The Man of Steel, even though he regretted how the film was received after the budget cuts by Cannon Films. There are still many scenes we still haven't seen to this day as pointed out in the comments. The closest thing we have to having the complete product is the soundtrack by Alexander Courage, which was vastly superior over Ken Thorne's orchestration for II and III IMO. Even though the film was rushed and failed, I am still one of many fans who would love to see the complete version, which I am certain is still in the vaults at Warner Archive somewhere. I believe the soundtrack copyright issues have since been lifted hence why temp tracks were used for the Nuclear Man 1 sequences in this video at the time it was released in 2006. So many scenes that got cut 2 weeks before the premiere in 1987, which was when Clive Mantle, who played Nuclear Man 1, got told he would not be in the final cut. I particularly think a lot of the scenes would have helped the story of IV, especially the character of Lacy. I bet Gene was also very disappointed many of his scenes were removed. I have always enjoyed the making of the production and it is still fascinating to me after all these years. I'm sure some day we will get to see the full version, I hope we do.
I think the scenes left over are in a vault somewhere but likely in rough shape and NOT finished.. WB won't spend money to finish the effects.. They did it for the Donner Cut but even those effects were pretty bad.. Even by 1980 standards.. If WB had the scenes with finished effects it would make sense to just include those in the DVD release back in 2006. They did NOT.. We got these awful mostly unfinished effect shots.. I think what is left is just more of the same..
Interesting that the actor who played Lenny would return to play Lex Luthor for the WB TV show. I also think that the first super guy was supposed to be Bizarro but they decided not to go through with the idea.
Interesting, there's clearly a lot still missing from this. Nuclear Man 1 especially, he's got a massive dent in his chest, most likely from Superman punching him. He's also walking out from the club, no moment of that dance Lex mentioned. Clearly there's more to that fight than we have here.
Wether Quest for Peace will ever be a great movie, regardless what gets put back into it, remains to be seen. But one thing is for sure, this movie deserves a chance to be put right, the material is there as is all the technology to do it, so if enough people want to see it surely it's worth the money and effort.

Christopher Reeve is obviously the best Superman. Only one who came close was Brandon Routh but he didn't get the chance to go past 1 movie. These two actors portrayed Superman's true personality which was good natured and mild mannered. Henry Cavill is not so much. He is more of a Superman with a bad attitude.
That ending flying with the kid out of space is quite exaggerating and they even dare to show an astronaut waving at them? WTH the astronaut needs to wear a suit whilst the boy doesn't? Another hidden power from Superman?
Watching interviews from the time, Christopher Reeve really hated Superman III. That's why I think the first nuclear man was cut, those scenes are mostly comedic. Plus, two nuclear men are redundant. Although Reeve probably would've wanted to keep all those Luthor war-profiteering and nuclear stand-off scenes

I think Warner Brothers Animation Studio should remake this film with these deleted scenes, including the scenes with Clark and Lacy at the Metro Club. They could just remake it in the medium of animation. I'd love to see this story and characters fully fleshed out.
This is funny. The budget cuts and the toll it took on the product. It's enjoyable, in a black-humor kind of way. Superman so pure and wholesome, brought down by ulterior agendas and harsh economic reality.
Superman and Christopher Reeves were a perfect match up in the early 80s, not to mention the Superman in this was tamed, until of course the Superman of today we see in the justice league.
The bit where they make superman take the elevator was just either funny or the writers were clueless. They should have made superman piss on nuclear man and that would have been it. 🙄

As horrific as Superman IV: The Quest For Peace, was, imagine how much worse it could have been if they had decided to use this crap. I remember going to the cinema back in the eighties with my friend to watch this and couldn't be happier at the time, especially as I went to see the united nations scene being filmed at the Milton Keynes new railway building, (at least I think it was a railway building)so I was really pumped for it and as a kid I really loved it regardless, because I loved Christopher Reeve as Superman. Easily my biggest childhood hero, who became only second to Bruce Lee once I became a teenager. I remember finding the part in the movie where Superman is dying from radiation sickness from his fight with Nuclear Man, quite sad and disturbing as a child. Quite Ironic that only 5-6 yrs later Chris would become paralyzed from an equestrian accident and then despite his heroic efforts would later die around a decade later and his beloved widow would then join him very shortly after around two years later from lung cancer and a broken heart. God Bless them both. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Chris, in making my childhood a memorable one. God Bless You, Brother. We Love and Miss You Very Much🙏
Apparently when Nuclear Man is putting everyone on red alert he literally turned himself into a nuclear missile. Now of all the things that were cut, I think seeing what he looked like as the missile would be very interesting
It's in the script and the comic books that way. The script description sounds bad. his eyes and mouth are still on the nose cone of the missile. So it would be a lot like Plastic Man or Mr. Fantastic stretching into something. In a remaster of the movie, I would just put a missile-shaped cone of fire around him with a smoke trail, still letting you see his body in the center of it.

In the footage we see here, we see Mark Pillow being filmed flying, so clearly they weren't going to use a dumb prop anyway.
@@rockys201 Yeah, but Superman taking Lacy to him is what distracts him and make him turn from a missile back into a human. Without that, what's the justification of risking her life? All he had to do was show up and punch him into the sea. It seems like he was supposed to get him to change back to human form to stop the missile from showing up on radar. Now maybe the best you can do is have him flamed on in a cone of fire and have the fire disappear when he sees Lacy.

@@404TVfr The Metro Club is a big section in the script. Lots of dialogue between Lacy and Clark. She says women never get swept off their feet anymore, and Clark hovers her an inch off the ground, which seems like a dumb idea vis a vis his secret identity. Nuke Man 1 breaks the bouncers' necks to get in, and this is where he sees Lacy and falls in love with her. The memory of his genetic material is supposed to be why the second Nuke Man loves Lacy. Clark turns into Superman to race in a newlywed couple past the bouncers who weren't allowed in. This is when the drunk lady randomly grabs Nuke Man 1 and takes him outside and this deleted scene begins. Superman hears her scream from inside the club and ditches Lacy to check it out.
I’ve heard rumors that when the director of Superman IV submitted his version of the film to Warner Bros., it was around 135 minutes; makes it somewhere over 2 hours and 15 minutes. But because of the issues with Golan-Globus and the budget of the movie, it was trimmed to a runtime of an hour and a half. When Warner Bros. acquired these deleted scenes for the 2006 DVD rerelease of the Superman movies; there also was that 135 minute work print of the film. It would have to take a lot for the studio to make this cut available on home media.
They’ve relented with the Donner Cut and the Snyder Cut; the International Cut of Supergirl, and they’ve released a TV cut of Superman: The Movie. Unless they’re planning to release this work print along with the TV Cut of Superman II and III, we’re gonna have to wait and hope.
I think the problem is, unlike Superman 1 and 2 (which are beloved classics) and Justice League (for which there was a massive campaign), or even Supergirl, which has its own cult following, Superman IV is hardly anybody's favourite, and they might be reluctant to do much more with it than the occasional remaster and releasing deleted material if they feel it might not be worth the profit.
It's a shame because it COULD turn around the film's general conception....but it might just be more work than they're willing to put in.

I actually heard the tornado scene and the Russian scene were originally released in theaters along with the film, but for some weird reason, Warner Bros. took it out of their DVD release. It makes me wonder why.

18:04 the sacred war intensifies
Stallone spent time during the Pandemic to work on a Director's Cut of Rocky IV. It was a shame that Warner Archive couldn't have used a similar opportunity to work on an extended cut of IV as I am sure the film still has a fanbase and would have been a fitting tribute to the late Christopher Reeve to showcase his final performance as The Man of Steel, even though he regretted how the film was received after the budget cuts by Cannon Films. There are still many scenes we still haven't seen to this day as pointed out in the comments. The closest thing we have to having the complete product is the soundtrack by Alexander Courage, which was vastly superior over Ken Thorne's orchestration for II and III IMO. Even though the film was rushed and failed, I am still one of many fans who would love to see the complete version, which I am certain is still in the vaults at Warner Archive somewhere. I believe the soundtrack copyright issues have since been lifted hence why temp tracks were used for the Nuclear Man 1 sequences in this video at the time it was released in 2006. So many scenes that got cut 2 weeks before the premiere in 1987, which was when Clive Mantle, who played Nuclear Man 1, got told he would not be in the final cut. I particularly think a lot of the scenes would have helped the story of IV, especially the character of Lacy. I bet Gene was also very disappointed many of his scenes were removed. I have always enjoyed the making of the production and it is still fascinating to me after all these years. I'm sure some day we will get to see the full version, I hope we do.
I think the scenes left over are in a vault somewhere but likely in rough shape and NOT finished.. WB won't spend money to finish the effects.. They did it for the Donner Cut but even those effects were pretty bad.. Even by 1980 standards.. If WB had the scenes with finished effects it would make sense to just include those in the DVD release back in 2006. They did NOT.. We got these awful mostly unfinished effect shots.. I think what is left is just more of the same..

Interesting, there's clearly a lot still missing from this. Nuclear Man 1 especially, he's got a massive dent in his chest, most likely from Superman punching him. He's also walking out from the club, no moment of that dance Lex mentioned. Clearly there's more to that fight than we have here.

Wether Quest for Peace will ever be a great movie, regardless what gets put back into it, remains to be seen. But one thing is for sure, this movie deserves a chance to be put right, the material is there as is all the technology to do it, so if enough people want to see it surely it's worth the money and effort.

The Tornado Scene is one of the best scenes in the 4 films in my opinion and is included on the VHS copy of the film but missing on the dvd

Christopher Reeve is obviously the best Superman. Only one who came close was Brandon Routh but he didn't get the chance to go past 1 movie. These two actors portrayed Superman's true personality which was good natured and mild mannered. Henry Cavill is not so much. He is more of a Superman with a bad attitude.

Watching interviews from the time, Christopher Reeve really hated Superman III. That's why I think the first nuclear man was cut, those scenes are mostly comedic. Plus, two nuclear men are redundant. Although Reeve probably would've wanted to keep all those Luthor war-profiteering and nuclear stand-off scenes

Whenever I watched Luthor create the clone of superman I always thought he should be in motley crue or something. He has that rocker-punk vibe/look.
I think Warner Brothers Animation Studio should remake this film with these deleted scenes, including the scenes with Clark and Lacy at the Metro Club. They could just remake it in the medium of animation. I'd love to see this story and characters fully fleshed out.

I have a poster booklet of this movie and they had some pictures from this movie that were removed from this film. They were really good.

I am so glad they changed the sun god guy to the one they picked because this guy in this video was just awful and the special effects were just awful.
