@@MountainsMulletsMerica I've been reading about the Norma Magnum and considering it alongside the 300 PRC for my next rifle. What are the performance differences between 300 PRC and 300NM?
@@landocallbackesian3884 So I don't have any range time with the 300NM barrel yet but by the numbers it's able to push a 230 or 250gr bullet maybe 200ish FPS faster. Higher speed means more forgiving at distance. I love 300PRC but I'm thinking 300NM might be a noticeable step up in performance. Stay tuned for content!
@@landocallbackesian3884 Given I just got the 300NM barrel, I haven't had a chance to actually put rounds down range yet. From what I see online, the 300NM should run the 230-250gr bullets 200ish fps faster giving you flatter trajectory out to distance. The downside is likely barrel life though. Stay tuned as I plan to launch a 300prc vs 300nm video when I have experience with both calibers!
Great part 3 of the video. A good spotting scope with a phone skope to record your shots if you don’t have a spotter. Longshot LR-3 Gen 3 Long Range 2 Mile +UHD Target Camera System with Bullet Proof Warranty is another good way if you don’t have a spotter
Appreciate you taking the time to watch all 3 parts! I really enjoyed getting to put these videos together so I hope they were worth your investment! You know I've thought about one of those target cameras but I can't decide if they are actually worth the investment or not.
@@MountainsMulletsMerica from what I have looked at them and if I was younger and had the money I would get the set that has 3 or 4 cameras that go out to 2 miles.
TO make a hot load, load the maximum written weight and then take that little conical scoop hanging off the loader and put one level funnel into the case. any more and the bullet will explode in the breech. German snipers used this method to make their 8mm x 57 "hot"
I used to use Shooter App too. But switched over to Applied Ballistics. They update the BC all the time on their app according to what they are seeing in the field when they bring their trailer out. Also would like to see your reloading process. I always thinks it's interesting to see everyones process for the same end goal. My current process is decap, anneal, resize(no expander ball) clean, trim, mandrel expander and lube the case neck. Then your standard prime, drop and seat.
Oh man, I didn't realize applied ballistics was constantly updating. That's something I'll for sure check out. I do plan to cover my reloading process in the future. In summary, I clean, anneal, deprime, full length size with a bushing die, mandrel the necks, trim, clean primer pockets, and then move into the loading process of priming, dropping powder and seating. That said, something I'm experimenting right now is neck tension. I believe this is an area I can improve so that I close up my ES and SD but don't have enough experience here yet to give you an idea how that's working out haha.
Great info! I’m starting with a Sako S20 300 win mag and am very excited. Any tips on specific scopes are welcome. Right now I’m looking at Vortex viper pst
This is a video idea that I haven't really thought about. For sure something I could knock out pretty easily. My cleaning regiment is relatively quick and easy.
You're making some killer videos man. \m/ I'd love to shoot there, great spot. I beat you to it, I picked up a 300 Norma Mag AI AXSR, but can't load for it yet..can't find components or dies. @@MountainsMulletsMerica Hahah, yes, the box on Norma 230 gr Bergers ammo says 2985fps avg. but new barrel still breaking it in. I will bud. As soon as I find some dies, I'll load some with 225gr ELDs and H1000. Let's see how it goes.
Came across your channel after seeing you on the texas plinking 100 yard 1 mil challenge. Really enjoy your content and presentation. Can you clarify which ballistics app you use? You say shooter. Is that from kennedy development group? If not, any clarity as to which it is would be appreciated. I currently use the strelok pro. I'm willing to try another option.
Really appreciate you stopping by to check out the channel! If you’re into long range shooting I think you’ll love my content! You are correct, I run the shooter ballistic app by Kennedy development group. Best I can recall it costs something like $10 in the App Store. Lots of content in the works so hope you’ll stay tuned!
You kind of hinted at this a bit, but velocity affects the BC piece. I noticed this on JBM with the 168gr SMK. They have a velocity adjusted BC you can use and it definitely gets worse as it gets slower. I’m not sure if this is true of G7 BCs or all bullets. I’m still a noob, but I have watched at least 80hrs of Rex’s long range videos. Lol
Very good point. I can’t claim to be a ballistics expert but my understanding is BC is velocity dependent for all bullets. Beyond that the general concept I’m not sure in the best person to speak to this. I just know for shooting long range more velocity is your friend when paired with a high BC bullet haha. Thanks for watching!
If you haven't had a chance, check out the night vision video I put out a couple months ago at the link below. Also, stay tuned as I've got a 2 part NV series coming probably first part of august once I get the editing wrapped up. Will be heavy wilcox footage in that. The raptar is for sure an area where I've noticed a content gap on youtube . ruclips.net/video/N86WKih_OnY/видео.html
@MountainsMulletsMerica what app do you use? You say the "shooter app" but that doesn't exist from what I see on the app store? Can you share what exact app?
It’s call “shooter ballistic calculator” by Kennedy development group. If I remember correctly it costs something like $10 in the App Store. I’ve been running it going on 10ish years now with great results.
Excellent video series - now for the question. I just zeroed my rifle with factory match ammo, but now I want to start reloading for distance. When you refer to a bullets BC, do you want a low number or higher number? I would also love to see your reloading process? Thank you for your time.
When looking for long range performance you want a higher BC. A higher BC is a more "efficient" bullet design allow it to retain velocity to further distance which in turn means the bullet will be flatter shooting and buck the wind a bit better. It's important to note BC is dependent on velocity so you also want to make sure you've got a high muzzle velocity (I target 2800FPS+) so that you can truly see the benefit of whatever BC is published on a bullet. Tons of info available on this topic but hopefully this response provides a quick high level summary, or at least my understanding of things.
The higher the number, the better. BC (or Ballistic Coefficient) is how efficient the bullet is at cutting though the air and the closer to "1", the better (or more efficient) the bullet is at doing that. Basically, its is a measurement of aerodynamic drag and the higher the number (because its actually a coefficient of, not a direct reading of), the lower the drag is.
If I were only going to choose 1, I'd lean toward the 300PRC, norma or win mag. That said, I really enjoy shooting 338LM but it comes at the expense of additional recoil, cost and it's not as efficient for drop/ wind.
@@TheGlock34man I feel like "get both" is always the correct answer haha. Barrels are almost impossible to find at the moment though which I'm sure you're noticed.
I’ve never run a scalarworks so can’t say I’m familiar with them. I am however a fan of 1 piece mounts over rings for several reasons and I don’t see a problem with a cantilever mount. The Atacr 7-35 on the mrad in this video is in a Spuhr cantilever mount, I’ve been very happy with this setup.
I'm shooting in a north/ north east direction, if I had to guess at a compass heading I'd say something like 20 degrees. I get spin drift is a thing but it's not something I'm factoring in when making my shots at distance. Typically there is enough wind out there that my error comes from misreading that. Beyond that, I'm just looking for impacts and adjusting. Probably not the most precise answer for you but that's how I do it. Thanks for watching!
Why would you want to not want it? Lol. It’s truly a professional grade system that a man can grow into. Save your pennies bite the bullet and invest in your future.
Yes, @scout8706 is correct. For the magnum calibers, I prefer the recoil impulse of the muzzle brake over the impulse of a suppressor. That said, I don't have plans to suppress the magnum calibers. I do however have a 6.5CM barrel for this rifle that I am running suppressed with my surefire socom 762 mini. I've got a video in mind where I plan to use that setup so you'll see the mrad get suppressed in the near future.
Scales/ powder dropping is something else I've been looking to improve. Currently running an RCBS match master but I know there is room for improvement here.
@@MountainsMulletsMerica Yes, there could be room for improvement there. While the Match Master is a very good thrower, it does still suffer from much larger error potential than an true analytical balance (like the FX120i) does. Loading for PRS, its great but when getting into any type of true long and extreme long range, it has too much throw to throw error potential.
@@MountainsMulletsMerica Could be but also could be a lot of other things too. The Match master scale is a really good scale (better than most "reloading" scales) but like all beam type stain gauge load cells, they are prone to errors based on load positioning because of the cantilever layout for one, and they are also prone to temperature drift (although it does seem from testing a friends Match Master that RCBS has integrated a pretty good temperature compensation circuit into them compared to their others like the Charge Masters and Charge Master Lite's) but this still cant account for variances in the load cell's metallurgical composition which will effect how much the cell deforms for a given load at a given temperature. True analytical balances like the FX120i use Magnetic Force Restoration to measure weights and have their own flaws too, like being even more sensitive to room temperature fluctuations but this is only an effect on the electronics and with the well built compensation circuit, small changes aren't typically an issue like they can be with stain gauge load cells. They are also not prone to errors from load placement like strain gauge load cells because they are a ring configuration the magnetic force is self centering and self leveling (within its clearance area) but doesn't require more electrical current to do so. The best way to rule out any problems with the scale itself is to get some test weights of various sizes that are reasonable close to the charge weights that you are running for a particular cartridge and check to see if the scale gives you an accurate number for the weight(s) placed upon it. A bit of advice here if you do this, dont cheap out on them (they can be a bit pricy). While you certainly do not need to go the route of certified ones but I've seen some pretty bad errors from cheapo import ones sold on Amazon and Ebay and such. Now outside of the scale itself, Primers are probably one of the most common causes to getting bad ES's (and SD's) with good powder charges that give a good node. For example, I see a lot of people that think that they need magnum primers for magnum cartridges and that is not always the case and often will cause problems with ES's and SD's. There is really only two times where you really do need a magnum primer and that is with spherical / ball powders and (most powders) when its close to and / or below freezing temperatures. Now some times Magnum primers will give you good results but more time, they give worse results except in those two mentioned cases (spherical powders and / or very cool / cold temps). The other thing is case fill, if you are using a bullet and powder combo that doesn't get you close to 100% case fill / capacity, ES and SD will almost always suffer. Let me ask you, what kind of ES's and SD's are you getting?
@@CJ-ty8sv Good stuff here! You are spot on with the load placement error in the matchmaster. I can see this show up when zeroing/ checking the zero on my scale, the zero point can shift +/- a bit depending on where I place the empty powder tray. With regards to primers, I've heard others mention magnum primers could be the cause of ES/ SD troubles. I'm running CCI magnum primers in all of my magnum loads and I've thought about swapping to standard large rifle primers, but I've been a bit afraid to try it. Sounds like it might not be a bad idea for a couple rounds to see what happens. For the most part, I'd say my SD is typically in the high single digit range to about 10, occasionally bumping up to 12 or so depending on rounds in a string or if I get a random velocity flier..... ES I would say is typically between 20-35 again depending on number of rounds in a string and if I get a velocity flier. While I'm not happy with these numbers, they do allow me to make effective hits on my targets out to 2000 yds or so..... my annoyance comes from the fact that I want to push further and this is where these velocity numbers show up as significant error down range.

I’d love to have something to go extreme long range with but right now it’s a fighting rifle with a really really good barrel in it. Long range to me is based on the bullets capabilities. What’s long range for 556 is not long range at all for 300 prc or 338. But if ur like me and live in the city in florida then all you need is a 556. It’s cheap to shoot and is the rifle id personally take to war with me. Every part of the rifle from the A5 buffer, to the dead air flash has been hand selected and was saved up for when money was an issue. She took 5 years to build and I love it!
Really appreciate you taking the time to watch my videos and support the channel! I’ve got a lot of content planned for 2023 so stay tuned!
Major bummer you had to let your long range rig go but my opinion everyone needs a block II M4, just such an iconic rifle. Like you it’s probably the best setup for a civilian fighting rifle.
I really appreciate your training tips
Subscribed for sure! You make some great videos. It took me a while to put my finger on it but I just really love both how humble you are and how viewer-oriented your content feels. Some youtubers' videos feel like a diary and yours feel like someone is talking to me :)
Really appreciate you taking the time to watch and support the channel! I’m just a regular guy that enjoys shooting so my goal for the content is to portray that and hopefully connect with others in the same boat. Lots more content planned so hope you’ll stay tuned!
@@MountainsMulletsMerica I will for sure! Thanks for the reply! I keep getting closer and closer to actually starting my own youtube channel and hearing you describe yourself like that is very encouraging :)
Man this is great content. I came across your channel a few days ago and every video has been amazing, straightforward but super entertaining. Really good stuff man keep up the good work!
Thank you! Really appreciate the support. Lots planned for 2023 so stay tuned.
You and I are on the same journey I love the challenge I have learned to reload in a totally new way and it is paying off I have done the mile and now heading out to longer distance.
I shoot a 6.5x284 Norma 26 inch proof barrel and a Remington trued 700 long action I love the chase...... and I love wheat fields and rocks in canyons LOL all the best..
Great content as always. I personally needed the encouragement. Good job!
Thank you! It’s easy to get down on yourself when shooting long range but that’s just an opportunity to learn for next time in my opinion. Man with regards to the H1000 I’m pretty sure everyone is trying to find some, it still seems impossible. I am on the hunt for primers and that’s equally frustrating 🤦♂️
@@MountainsMulletsMerica I think everyone who watches the video will appreciate your humble attitude because it just shows that we all have room to grow and get better. Not only with long range shooting but in many different areas of our life. H1000 is definitely a unicorn unless you want to pay crazy prices on gunbroker. I have about 700 cci magnum lr primers I got from a friend. His dad passed and he was a reloader but his son wasn't. 100 9mm for a ton of primers and some powder.
Great content, excellent delivery. Getting into long range myself, comfortable at 1,000 just wish there were more places to shoot at that distance. Your shooting area is incredible! Keep up the good work!
Appreciate you taking the time to watch! Careful though, long range shooting is addicting haha
@@MountainsMulletsMerica you aint kidding.
Another amazing long range video! Please keep ‘em coming!
Appreciate it! Stay tuned, just got a 300NM barrel for the MRAD so I’ve got a bunch of ELR content planned for early 2023!
Wish I had a place to stretch out. I've gotten to do it a few times but not often. It's a blast for sure.
We sure would benefit from a reloading video… especially tips to lower the velocity SD. Great videos!!!!
Doing this without a spotter is awesome, bro.
3 Great videos!!! Thanks for your wisdom.
What a series! Can't wait to see what comes next!
Oh man, this is only the beginning!
TO make a hot load, load the maximum written weight and then take that little conical scoop hanging off the loader and put one level funnel into the case. any more and the bullet will explode in the breech. German snipers used this method to make their 8mm x 57 "hot"
Great video and advice👏🙏☘️
Fantastic video! Keep up the good work. 👍🏽
Thank you! Appreciate the continued support!
Thank you for this video. I appreciate your effort .
Appreciate you taking the time to watch!
Great info! I’m starting with a Sako S20 300 win mag and am very excited. Any tips on specific scopes are welcome. Right now I’m looking at Vortex viper pst
Bought this rifle because of your videos. Eyeballing that same scope and mount set up too. Is that the Spuhr qdp 4046? Thanks! Love the videos!
I’m gonna go ahead and subscribe on the hopes I don’t miss your video of how you clean your mrad and with what products.
So far, 2970fps with factory Norma ammo and 230 grain Bergers. It eats a mile for breakfast and hopefully I'll have videos of that soon.
Duuuudddeeee 2970 with factory 230 ammo? That is epic! Please post some videos, this just makes me want a 300NM even more haha
@@MountainsMulletsMerica Hahah, yes, the box on Norma 230 gr Bergers ammo says 2985fps avg. but new barrel still breaking it in.
I will bud. As soon as I find some dies, I'll load some with 225gr ELDs and H1000. Let's see how it goes.

i love your channel just sharing it to friends im interested in ext long range do you suggest 6mm arc or 308 or...? thank you
Came across your channel after seeing you on the texas plinking 100 yard 1 mil challenge.
I would be interested in learning more about what shooting ELR has changed your reloading process.
No interest in shooting long range just find this guys delivery soothing
Haha, thank you for taking the time to watch!
Hell yell brother
Appreciate the content. Would like a video on the Wilcox Raptar. Not enough on RUclips.
If you haven't had a chance, check out the night vision video I put out a couple months ago at the link below. Thank you for taking the time to watch!
I am still looking for H1000!
Good job
Appreciate it! Thank you for taking the time to watch!
Another awesome video brother I’m wanting to get another barrel for my Mrad would you go with the 300 PRC over the 338
If I were only going to choose 1, I'd lean toward the 300PRC, norma or win mag. That said, I really enjoy shooting 338LM but it comes at the expense of additional recoil, cost and it's not as efficient for drop/ wind.
@@MountainsMulletsMerica so maybe I should just get both barrels😃
@@TheGlock34man I feel like "get both" is always the correct answer haha. Barrels are almost impossible to find at the moment though which I'm sure you're noticed.
@@MountainsMulletsMerica Yeah I’ve been looking you can order them through barrett but it takes a while to get them I guess
Any insight on scope rings vs cantilever mount. I run Scalarworks on AR’s but not sure if there good for a 300prc bolt gun.
Curious questions: are you shooting North / South / East / West? How much spin drift at 2310?
I'm shooting in a north/ north east direction, if I had to guess at a compass heading I'd say something like 20 degrees. I get spin drift is a thing but it's not something I'm factoring in when making my shots at distance. Typically there is enough wind out there that my error comes from misreading that. Beyond that, I'm just looking for impacts and adjusting. Probably not the most precise answer for you but that's how I do it. Thanks for watching!
I just purchased an MRAD 300prc need advise setting up
Can you do a series on reloading?
Good content! On board, let’s ride it 👍 Sub’d and Liked 🇨🇦
Much appreciated! More cool stuff on the way!
I'm trying really hard not to want a Barrett MRAD, but man - that thing looks slick as hell. Any plans to suppress it?
Why would you want to not want it? Lol. It’s truly a professional grade system that a man can grow into. Save your pennies bite the bullet and invest in your future.
If memory serves me I think he said in a previous video he isn't a fan of suppressors for extreme long range and he prefers the muzzle brake.
Also, get an A&D fx120i scale with V4 powder measurer (if you haven't already) ;)
@@CJ-ty8sv this is great info. I've been having a hard time getting ES and SD down on my ELR rigs, I wonder if it's a result of my scale?
While I'm not happy with these numbers, they do allow me to make effective hits on my targets out to 2000 yds or so..... my annoyance comes from the fact that I want to push further and this is where these velocity numbers show up as significant error down range.
you mentioned "shooter" app, can you give a url/link to it please.
