  • If your country no longer physically exists, what does that make you? It’s an existential question residents of one of the smallest and most climate-vulnerable countries on the planet are contemplating. This is the first of a three-part series by CNA on how Pacific island-nations are fighting climate change, and the lessons they offer. Of course, but that’s easier said when you’re not living on a coral atoll… try saying "we’re all living on borrowed time" when you’re there. Some people may agree, such as the people who want to stay as long as possible, but the people who see what’s happening and are supportive of relocating probably wouldn’t want to hear that. Lol.

Tuvalu is a lovely atoll and is surprisingly easy to get to from Singapore as we have direct flights to Fiji. (Maybe this is crazy, and it's not a suggestion) - surely there are some islands somewhere that are functional but not in use that could become "New Tuvalu?" Maybe they just buy a string of neighboring private islands and have the UN recognize their relocation? Maybe Australia has a few empty islands? They might end up with an even bigger country.

That won't work. There's going to be meters of sea level rise.
The only way I can see for people to stay there, is if you raise the places people live far above the current sea level.
      That's a serious construction project.
At the moment it would mean building islands in the air.
I'm sure this sounds crazy, but it is the only solution I can think of to deal with multiple meters of sea level rise.
You have to plan for it and build to where you think the sea will be at its highest point.
This is NOT an easy solution, but I think it is the only way people will be able to stay there, as opposed to moving somewhere else.
The only other option I can think of is finding an island/islands that are high above the current seas, and currently uninhabitable for the people to move to.
This comes with the challenge of making such islands habitable.
Whatever they decide to do, I wish the Tuvaluan people the best of luck, it would be a shame to lose their languages, and culture.

So I don’t think there is any one finger to point the blame with. Some of it is undoubtedly naturally occurring changes, but a lot of things are likely to be exacerbated by the overpopulated planet and mismanaged resources and waste. As in, these may not be the root causes of climate change, I don’t know, but those things surely won’t add anything good to an already existing, natural issue.

Tuvalu should use modern technology such as dredging to build up those islands. Just look at how China built their military bases in the South China Sea.

Singapore is able to claim sites up to 20 meters deep, Tuvalu is claiming an average of a maximum of 7 meters. There are two types of people: those who try to solve problems and those who try to win donations.

    And the palm.
How come this tiny island country - simmilar to Singapore story - cannot even creat an ocean barriers system. There are a lot of system/methods to be implemented.

This country needs the helps of china.. china could make multiple man-made islands in two years..all they have to do is allow china to do wat they did in West Philippine Sea like pounding corals in near areas destroying to make it suckable by thier dredging machine..in no time u'll have a new livable islands.. this more justified for local people to live comfortably.. unlike china done to grab teritories.. like claiming the whole sea

6:40 I’m so confused. With all due respect, Elder Kalisi fears "the erosion of values, languages and customs", yet he’s saying how they’re all Christians-a European-imported, forced-conversion "custom"? 🤔 What customs? Just their lifestyle on the island, I guess. But if that’s the case, that they’re all super Christian, then relocating shouldn’t be a problem as there are Christian churches and communities EVERYWHERE… lol.
Then the narrator says how Kalisi can see the "impacts of climate change everywhere", but that-because they’re Christians-it is their "belief" that Tuvalu will "never be underwater."
So, help me understand this-does the Bible specifically mention Tuvalu as never going underwater? 🤔 Even if it did, what does being a Christian have to do with an atoll supposedly never being taken over by the ocean? When you’re one day living in the ocean, waist-deep with the dolphins, sharks and fish and everything else, and no dry land, then what?

if you have skills, similar culture and similar religion countries will need you to repopulate their countries.
they should provide you with an area the same size as what you have and another area next to it. you can work on both area.sss after office-hours. this is a way of keeping balanced. contact your similar and ask if such terms are available with full citizenship, without refugee-status.
