Bass homie held that groove through all of that? That's a godlike sense of rhythm there. Also loved how every time the drummer hit something gnarly the bassist had to wince in appreciation
I mean it's just a vamp with a drum solo, but Mike and Snarky are great at writing tunes that give the band members opportunities to shine. It makes for a great live show. It's less abouts friendship and more about entertainment, but obviously they wouldn't be in stage together if they weren't tight.
Well, they compose in the overall structure of the song, and where the solos are gonna be, and their solos tend to sound similar each time they're played (and can you blame them?) but it's full of improvisation beyond that. It was Larnell's solo, so Mike held the line. Larnell hadn't brought it back home when his kick broke, so Mike waited and kept holding. :)
@@RastaFudge you misunderstood me. . Lewis is the most amazing drummer I have ever heard. He toys with it so much that I am surprised he doesn't fuck other players up.
That's something that you can see often between really experienced players like Larnell: when facing an issue like this, or making a mistake, they just laugh about it and take advantage of that mistake in the most creative way possible. Really admirable.
I literally didn't know he was still playing until I saw his hands when he stood up. Like wtf I thought I saw both his hands go down to take it apart and he was playing with the stick in his mouth for a second 🤣🤣🤣🤣🔥 #Legendary
He is the leader of the band! He is also the one who is responsible for most of Snarky Puppy songs! His genius brain won't mind to do this unique playing even longer 😂
He's really Kool both on and off stage. I met him just a few years before he got with Snarky Puppy. He came to my Island #Grenada with #Eddie_Bullen, and they did a workshop before the show. He instantly he became my favorite drummer/person. It was my first Jazz gig and I learned so much. He let me use his stick bag, pedal and cymbals, and gave me two pairs of sticks after the show (he used Vater Sugar Maple back then, before switching to ProMark)
This is even better than the violinist who broke a string and handed her violin to the first chair. Here, let me just keep my one handed roll going while I help you unscrew my effing kick pedal. Excellent.
Don’t forget my man Justin Stanton is on Moog key bass for this solo as well (can hear it clearer in headphones there’s two basses for the whole solo)!
3:41 hit different 🔥 🔥 - The whole bands out of this world GOOD!!! - larnell Lewis is just another level of musician, the bassist himself is another legend in the making, I'm sure the bassist writes all their stuff, correct me if wrong. I appreciate this video 🙏🏼👌🏼✊🏼😁💯💯💯💯
I think this might be one of the very few, if not the *only*, video I've seen on RUclips where the person filming on their smartphone started out vertical and then realized not long after they started recording that horizontal would capture way more of what they are looking at. I wish I could give you and extra upvote just for that alone. Also, this is amazing! I've seen drummers break sticks many, many, times during a song and then quickly replace them with a new one without missing a beat, but to have your kick drum beater break during a song? I'm pretty sure a lot of other drummers wouldn't have recovered from that as easily as Larnell did here.
Amazing drummer..fenomenal bassist. They keep timing like rock. No matter what drummer plays. The bass player keeps playing his ostinato. Very, but very good rythem section performance, bravo. The bass, and piano unuson are super pocket killing!
Harry Potter on bass does magic and manages to play the exact same riff an endless amount of times without losing it or going mad. Great drum solo, too.
S/O to Michael for holding that baseline down!!! S/O for the quick replacement pedal!!! Mr. Lewis blazzed even harder after the replacement and he always pulls out something new(to me) when goes in! Great video 🔥🔥🔥
Michael League's "whoo" holy-shit moment is EPIC, and this video really shows that his musicianship is on Larnell's level. They just HAD each other. That was awesome.
This happened to me. But to make it worse, I was gash before it broke 😂 Was an avalanche of pitiful failure after😂 Beautiful to see how a master deals with it 😎
the downbeat is lava
Hahahahaha
Brilliant 🤣
This level of musicianship........man I'm struggling to find a better improvisation...
Excellent !
:D
Larnell never gets lost...always keeps it crisp. He really is phenomenal.
How coooooooooooooooool is Michael League. I'd need therapy after playing that riff 956 times.
Did you count? 😂
Ofc
Bass homie held that groove through all of that? That's a godlike sense of rhythm there. Also loved how every time the drummer hit something gnarly the bassist had to wince in appreciation
100%
He the leader of the band. He is incredible
Damn can we just appreciate the muscianship ....bass playing that riff to let him shine now thats leadership and friendship

What are you talking about
That's how snarky is. When time comes to solo, they let them shine.
thats the song - its actually in the composition.
Well, they compose in the overall structure of the song, and where the solos are gonna be, and their solos tend to sound similar each time they're played (and can you blame them?) but it's full of improvisation beyond that.

Michael League is ❤️❤️❤️ imagine playing the same riff for almost 5mins without having having a problem
Human metronome
Definitely have to be in shape to repeat that for 1,250 bars
Acdc didnt have a problem either
@@santiagohb2276 haha all those intense polyrhythms that ACDC was known for
Bro this man just broke his pedal mid drum solo and you care about the bassist
Kudos to the base player because Lewis is doing everything on the planet to bend the time.
Hahahahah
The timing that larnell is playing is correct, idk what you’re talking about

Can we appreciate michael that he keep the riff stable even tho larnell doing crazy things
That's easy
he's counting in his head, you never lose it that way.
@@boozalm3715 jajaja!
No, that is illegal to appreciate. In fact, I'm reporting you to the local authorities for even suggesting such a thing.
These dudes are such professionals props to the bass player for being on time for that long.
The human metronome
Man Larnell Lewis is just legendary. I got chills when the band came back in after his solo!
Cleeeeaaaaaannnnnnn!!!!!!!!!!!
Spoiler alert 📍
@@candyboyswag My bad 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Shoutout to the roadies, they got that replacement so fast

Michael legitimized the heck out of that bass riff.
This is what a professional looks like. Not stopping and crying about what did not go the way they planed.
Pedal breaks , then the way Larnell solved the problem as a non problem and made it as the central part of this crazy drum solo. 🤯
That's exactly what Micheal League and Bill Laurance commented on at the masterclass the following day.
@@ThomasMRUclips nice didn’t know that one, anyway Larnell is one of the best AND he’s Canadian lol 😂

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.
Larnell Lewis is just a special player! His sense of time and ability rhythmically to play around it is astounding. Extra Special.
One of the best drummers I've ever heard. Single bass drum faster than most double pedal players!
He is awesome but your second statement is a bit much lol
@@boozalm3715 ^ lol
Anxiety 299% watching bass play that line over and over and over and over 🤣
Same! I was like oh god when is he gonna mess up.
This music sits on the edge of chaos. That point which requires the most control and the finest touch.
Lewis is so creative, elegant (delivering the solo little by little), and damn he sounds so crisp!
His drum roll was so smooth and creamy i honestly thought the snare drum wires were just rattling from the sound of the bass
I literally didn't know he was still playing until I saw his hands when he stood up. Like wtf I thought I saw both his hands go down to take it apart and he was playing with the stick in his mouth for a second 🤣🤣🤣🤣🔥 #Legendary
Me too - insane!
So ya, just to be clear, Mr. Lewis is one of the greatest drummers to ever sit behind a modern drum set.
I'd just say period at this point. He's a monster
His brother is also the weeknds drummer
He is just pure talent. He has redefined drumming in my opinion.
Drummer is amazing but damn you got to give it up to the bassist who played that weird ass riff for so long.
That dude was like okay, that was fun for the first 10 minutes ... 😐🤨😑
I swear!
Haha, the bass player is the one responsible for the weird ass riff, he composed it. 😂
He is the leader of the band! He is also the one who is responsible for most of Snarky Puppy songs! His genius brain won't mind to do this unique playing even longer 😂
this is the only riff that this bass can play
Larnell just oozes charisma behind the kit, incredible musician and showman
Larnell Lewis is absolutely one of my favorite drummers of all time. Innovative, entertaining, and incredible! I fucking Love SNARKY!
1:27 his bass drum pedal breaks and he still keeps on rockin it
I would be happy with just a quarter of the talent Larnell has
So instead of practicing 8 hours a day for 20 or 30 years practice 2 hours a day for 20 or 30 years and you will get there guaranteed.
That’s the cleanest buzz roll I’ve ever heard!!!
You'll know you have their respect, when you can take a moment.... And still keep their attention
Larnel jabbing the drums...like having a sparring session with it...insane
The way he stays in his ”state” and doesn’t get shook in the least... professional
Hope to meet Larnel Lewis someday, he's awesome

No one can really argue that Larnell Lewis is the best drummer of this generation.
You’re always gonna get arguments if you try and say that one person is the “best” or “better” than the rest. Music just doesn’t work like that.
@@milesfarnan9049 yeah you’re right, it didn’t work like that-- until Larnell Lewis was born.
