Hey Elliot, french guy here. Your testimony is so valuable. I can relate so much with the first half of your vid. Also been through a very painful breakup, the fear of being homosexual pretty much consumed my life over the last 2-3 years, I'm just stuck with that and scared as hell to start a new relationship, because of the damage that I could do / the gay topic inviting itself and just destroying it all over again. I'm trying to get my hands on some of the books you mention, but it's a bit more tricky here (and everything's in english of course). Which book or resource you'd say was the most helpful / had the most impact for you regarding HOCD ? Thanks again ;-)
Hey Florian! I am not Elliot, but as I helped coach him I would imagine he would say Book1: How to stubbornly refuse to make yourself miserable about anything, yes anything - and Book2: The myth of self esteem
Hey Florian, yep what Nick said! Both of those books are really good, also for the anxiety associated with hocd I would say at last a life by Paul David, great book. I can completely relate with what you’re saying, the fear of relapse is always there in the background, but when you look at it rationally, it wouldn’t be completely awful. I’ve said to myself that I can’t spend my life awfulising a possible relapse as otherwise I’ll never find someone! Also even if you did relapse you would have the tools given by OCD recovery to counteract the ocd, so it probably wouldn’t be as bad the second time around if it did latch again!
Did you experience insomnia? And how bad was it? I struggle with it too
Like is recovery real? Or you just accept the thoughts as being there forever?
I'm in love with him. I'll marry hahaha
