I respectfully disagree about the lens no longer being removable....heres why. as someone who uses the camera for majority water sports, the 8 is unquestionably better. Not having to remove the lens when placing it in a supersuit is convenient and nice. The accidental miss placed lens of the 5,6,7 is real and that doesn’t happen with the 8. The 8 has completely done away with fogging issues. In the past ive gone and filmed and came back to realize a large portion of my footage is not usable due to fogging. With the lens no longer being able to be removed the seal is better and fogging is gone. Also, the continued removal of the lens when placing it in a supersuit has made my 7’s lens not very tight. Meaning it doesn’t take much pressure anymore to twist it off and on. Overall the 8 fixed problems i didnt even know i had. if gopro puts goes back to a removable lens. Then good, they listened to a big complaint by its users, but for me ill stick with the 8.
That's sort of the thing though, the non-removable lens solves that ONE problem, fogging in the water. But it introduces a much larger problem, which is cracking that front lens and rendering your camera useless. So for the small percentage of people that only use the GoPro in the water, like yourself, the Hero 8 is amazing because of that! For the other 95% of people that are using it lots of other places, it's a huge bummer. Stoked to hear it's working so well for you though👍
I’m going to be using my hero8 under water in mostly greenish water. What should I use for settings? And why is so crd always having errors? I’ve lost 2 dive videos because of sd card errors. 2 different cards both have already been formatted.
I'm not sure about the formatting issue with the SD cards, but that's super concerning! As for the green, there's actually red dive filters that you can pickup that will help to correct the heavy amounts of green you might encounter (red cancels green). www.polarprofilters.com/collections/dive-filters/products/hero8-red-filters?sca_ref=39436.GKoy2ZQSTr
David Manning I hear quit a few people having issues with the cards. I’m using a sandisk 10 but I see a lot of people using the 10a1. Gold color on it. I’m gonna pick one of those up. I will definitely buy the lens filter!!!
Going along with your "don't spill the coffee" idea for stable video, I think if you placed a penny on top and tried to keep it from falling off might help. T-shirt idea... "Don't Drop The Penny" 😁
the advice to set the shutter to 1/48s is a real bad one - it messes with GoPro stabilization algorhythm, which relies on aligning video frames which need to be sharp and unblurred. Unless you want to use a gimble, which is a strange choice for an action camera. So this whole video is useless. Thumbs down.

Hi, i just saw a little bit too much cranked up dark tones in this video - especially when you show graded/ungraded. Little too much destructively edit, just in my opinion :)
That's the fun about editing, it's so subjective! What looks awesome to one person, looks terrible to another. I'm here to teach the tools, then everyone gets to choose what to do with them👍
I know that the video is on Hero 8 but I have a question to ask about the Hero 7 Black. My Problem is the audio sync is off on the camera playback when transferred to computer. It seems to be alright when playback in camera itself.
Love your your video. ? Why don't I ever see any info on the Hero 7 white. Can you let me know the best setting's for RUclips content. I know it has it's purks. But can you help me out? With the best setting's.
Also, how do you feel about LumaFusion on iPad Pro, is it garbage and a waste of time or can someone get decent results for beginning in video creation? Let me know, thanks.
I can’t believe the negative comments. I guess some people just do that. Always love your videos. I loved the intro. Would love to see a Premiere Pro editing video. BTW... I used to do all 7 until I started watching your videos.

Cheering for you.
Another tip as a video producer: as long as your shutter speed is higher than your frame rate (which should never go below 30 fps unless you're shooting actual movies), then you'll be fine because the double shutter rate is only for the purpose of making things look somewhat sharper and closer to real life.
Any experience with the new batteries in colder weather when shooting higher frame rates? For me, when the batteries cool the video and audio gets pretty rough and unusable when shooting 240fps (in a way that I never struggled with when swapping batteries in the 7)
David, what settings would you suggest to tape indoor volleyball with GP 7 Blk no color editing? I currently (had been) shooting 1080/60fps in auto however while not terrible by any means it just wasn’t a clean look. Thank you enjoy your videos.
If you're indoors in a gym, there's a few things you can do. One is switch to manual white balance. By setting your white balance manually, you'll keep from having the color shift during shots. The second is to set you ISO to MAX of 800 and if you're at 60fps, your shutter to 120th. If the image is too dark, switch to 30fps and 1/60th shutter. Hope that helps!
I subscribed the second that that note that said, “skip to 3:40 to see quick tips” or whatever, because I think it’s cool that you care about your viewers and what attention span they have, etc.
3 minutes in,and still not getting to the main point of the video, obviously this content is all about making a video just to promote those merch, in fact those design doesnt even look that authentic
I've tried filming with your recommended GoPro settings while cycling using either a handlebar mount or chest mount . I found I wasn't able to bring the detailed back, mainly the texture and sharpness of the video. I also found that fixed shutter speed really caused issues when light conditions varried. I ended up turning the sharpness back to high, but still running the following settings ... Partial cloudy day cycling thru tree covered sections , res 2.7k 30fps , shutter auto. iso 100-800 WB4000K high bit rate enabled using go pro colour superwide stability ON ... In post I made re adjustments to the WB to find what was natural , then I'll prob add some vibrance and possibly a slight over saturation to embellish the beauty greenery here on Vancouver island .... I WISH I could figure out why the fixed shutter rate just looked so washed out ??
Totally Ian! That flat cold light can for sure be a bummer, but you can also rock it! Bring some blues into your shadows and you'll get a really vibey image!
I tried to make a go pro video a month ago the colours in each clip were so different the footage was just unusable vowed still that moment to stop using the go pro I couldn’t even get expert colour grading to fix it was that bad. This was also UK cloudy weather so grey and blue sky’s mixed just destroyed the footage. I was how ever shooting go pro colour profile.
To be honest, Geordie Atom I rarely use theGoPro these days. I loved my old Hero 5. It was more consistent than the 7 I think until it finally overheated in Menorca. I managed to get it working again in the end with a clean start. The 7 just plays up. Poor colour, unreliable colour as you say. It also freezes. I moved to the Osmo pocket and the Action. The best thing about the GoPro is its sound, but I hat the messing that I have to do all of the time with colour.

awesome video btw and replying to your comment on finding a job a good option is the food industry. for example in my town we have 2 companies that grade and package eggs and one company that packages frozen vegetables. not only will these jobs help keep you busy but they are very essential for everyone! many people are taking a leave of absence maybe because of there age or health reasons. especially if you're young I'd encourage those who are able to apply to these jobs
lol man, ill be honest with you. I really think this old one works a lot better than the 8 black. I really like it. I really don't do much with it. I'm not that good at editing video so I'm a little overwhelmed about even going out and videoing anything but what I have done with it its a lot better footage and better to move around in.
I have been watching you video's for some time now. You are a great teacher. And I'm getting better all the time. But here's my dilemma. I'm not a photographer by any means. But I am a Wedding DJ. And I have a hero 8. The only camera I have. My question is. What settings would you recommend for a dim ballroom with bright DJ Lights? Everything I have tried. It's either to hot or to dark. Also would it make my life easier? To purchase the installation 360 one x2? So I can get any shot, with one camera? Thank you so much in advance. But I'm desperate.
I just won, one of these. It's a barebones, promo kit. Nothing but the camera...battery, and cable. Supposedly...kinda disappointed it was the 8. It has no way to change the lens, easily. No attachments, etc...
Im sad because my first "real" action camera (hero 7 silver) has cracked lens because i accidentally dropped it :( I will buy some waterproof case so it will protect the lens and the gopro is not waterproof anymore because of the cracked lens :(
Quick question,,,,,,on the front display does your gopro 8 look like it has an oily screen? Mine has since I bought it. Doesn't effecting it in any way so it's fine. But was just curious. Thanks.
Hey man, nice video. Would you recommend to use the protective cover, which is available for 50€ in the store, to ride motocross? Would be great if you could answer my question
Yes to edit please! I'm trying to break away from iMovie. Also, still having a hard time keeping everything organized and what is best. I know you already created a video for that, but still lacking the skills. Ha!
For sure look into Adobe Premiere Rush as a step up, then maybe Davinci Resolve or Premiere Pro. I know they seem intimidating at first, but with a few tutorials, you'll be well on your way!

Totally Ian! That flat cold light can for sure be a bummer, but you can also rock it! Bring some blues into your shadows and you'll get a really vibey image!
Thanks David. I’ll try that.....
I can't stop thinking that you look and sound like this guy... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Scott_(actor)
Hahaha! I get Adam Scott a lot from Parks and Rec and lately that guy a ton! So funny!
Hey man I love your videos and you have alot of useful tips if you ever get a chance maybe check out one of my newest videos which I record on a hero 7 black maybe you can give me some tips
So rad of you man! You're a damn good uncle!
@@DavidManningvlog thank you I apreciate it I try to be the best anything I can that's what my channel is about I just don't have the money or fallowing to do the things I wanna do but I'm working on that thats why ive been uploading so non frequent
Have you ever edited your GoPro footage or pics with the GoPro quick desktop app?
Not yet, but I'm for sure going to check it out. I've heard their desktop app mentioned a few times now. Here's how I edit my footage ruclips.net/video/dlgeg4bkGCw/видео.html
It's E-NERD-SHA!
Hahhaaaa!
Congrats on the 2 million views!!
Thank you so much! How did you see that? I don't even know how to see how many views I've had 🤣
@@DavidManningvlog I went to your channel and then to your About section, it shows how many views.
Roll Cage replaces the "removable lens"
What about the lens? It can’t be replaced once cracked. Is that a problem to consider when buying a new GoPro?
100% something to think about! I can't imagine that when the 9 comes out, they don't revert back to a replaceable lens
David Manning I’m planning on buying a new GoPro, do you think I should buy the hero 7 or hero 8 considering the lens?
awesome video btw and replying to your comment on finding a job a good option is the food industry. for example in my town we have 2 companies that grade and package eggs and one company that packages frozen vegetables. not only will these jobs help keep you busy but they are very essential for everyone! many people are taking a leave of absence maybe because of there age or health reasons. especially if you're young I'd encourage those who are able to apply to these jobs
Thanks Damien! I appreciate the thought man!
thanks for the info my friend..more power
Stay safe & God bless us all..!
Ok bud, Question. Do you have the best settings for the GoPro hero 3 plus?? lol. yes, I still use the gold one lol
Oh man, I don't even know which of the current settings still apply to the Hero 3!
lol man, ill be honest with you.
Btw, I got the POV carbon pro. It is insanely awesome. U should review one someday!
love your videos can you do a video on the best cheap action cameras cause i would love action camera to do mountain biking videos but i have no money
I'll check out a few and see if I find one that's a solid alternative!
@@DavidManningvlog thanks
? realy? 4 minutes into the video be for I get to what I clicked on?
There was a pop up title letting you know the video starts at 3:40👍
Settle down fella and pay better attention to the pop ups. I skipped ahead without issue.
I’m sorry too much advertising talk
I needed this video so bad! You help me so much! I have never been so excited to get paid and sign up for your Patreon and buy your merch!
Hahah! Love it man! Thanks Andrew!!!
I just won, one of these.
It's a barebones, promo kit.
Nothing but the camera...battery, and cable.
Supposedly...kinda disappointed it was the 8.
It has no way to change the lens, easily.
No attachments, etc...
Im sad because my first "real" action camera (hero 7 silver) has cracked lens because i accidentally dropped it :( I will buy some waterproof case so it will protect the lens and the gopro is not waterproof anymore because of the cracked lens :(
You should be able to buy a replacement lens for the front so that it will be waterproof again👍
@@DavidManningvlog but i cant get the cracked lens off? I have watched tutorials but it doesnt come off...
@@DavidManningvlog im from finland and 14 so im not very good at english
Quick question,,,,,,on the front display does your gopro 8 look like it has an oily screen? Mine has since I bought it. Doesn't effecting it in any way so it's fine. But was just curious.
Thanks.
I don't think that you spelling something wrong changes the awesomeness of the merch....
Hahah! Just spelled my own name wrong🤣
Editing video please
I can't get my GP off time lapse! I turn it on and it automatically starts recording I can't swipe it at all left, right, up or down. When I click record button it turns off! help!!
Have you taken the battery out? Try taking it out and leaving it out for awhile 👍
This guy is so critical and condescending! Smug af
Hahahaa! Possible 👍
Tony Lee Bruce he said eyeso instead of EYE ESS OHH, That’s where i stopped watching 😂😂
@@DavidManningvlog Haha. I'm sure I am making a lot of these mistakes and needed to hear some of this advice but couldn't continue listening to it! Perhaps a less critical, more encouraging and respectful tone would help!
Great t-shirt, and not a spork in sight.
Hahaha! I mean, there is a Patreon... And they may be getting sporks as a surprise!
