There’s the story about how, during filming, Chris Rock announced that he was going to play Jimmy Olsen in the Superman movie being made by Tim Burton, which was originally going to be made by Smith, which is part of a WHOLE other great story that explains a certain moment in The Flash movie. -My favorite tidbit is how Matt Damon plays Loki here. @@notuptome The reboot is definitely optional in my opinion. Many skip it and although it's kinda referenced in Clerks III, it's hardly a necessity. Not Kevin Smith's best.
Yes, there are 9 films in the View Askewniverse. Watch them in order: -Clerks -Mallrats -Chasing Amy -(Dogma) -Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back -Clerks II -Jay & Silent Bob's Super Groovy Cartoon Movie! -Jay & Silent Bob Reboot -Clerks III
MY favorite story is that when Kevin Smith told his mate Jason Mewes(Jay and Silent Bob) that they had this big Shakespeare actor Alan Rickman joining the cast and that they had to be a bit careful with him Jason Mewes learned not only his lines, but everybody elses lines perfectly. Rickman was so impressed that he remembered the rest of his life
If you guys want to and learn who Jay and Silent Bob are, Watch Jay & Silent Bob Strike back. You won't be sorry. Don't know if you'll ever read this, but anyone who loves this movie will want you to watch the other.
One of my favorites. As an atheist I love movies that satarize religion and the Catholic Church especially. I also appreciate the themes of faith and losing faith as well. My favorite thing is that Alan Rickman is just glorious in this movie!
Wow! Thanks so much for watching Dogma. It is actually a part of a larger cinematic universe known as the View Askewniverse. Jay & Silent Bob make appearances throughout all the movies, they even have a few of their own. It all started back in 1994 with the comedy Clerks. A movie that was filmed for only $27,500. I hope that you both will go back and watch the movies that came before Dogma. Clerks. (1994) Mallrats (1995) Chasing Amy (1997)
Kevin Smith went to one of the opening nights of this film and joined the protesters outside the cinema...just for giggles. I believe it was filmed by a local tv company.
Kevin Smith is a great writer and director he has his own little cinematic universe called the "View Askewniverse" which you have just started you should definitely check out the rest it's a great time. the View Askewniverse consists of Clerks (1994), Mallrats (1995), Chasing Amy (1997), Dogma (1999), Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001), Clerks II (2006), Jay and Silent Bob Reboot (2019), Clerks III (2022) and Jay and Silent Bob are the running cameos in all of them kind of like Stan Lee in the MCU which funny enough Mallrats Stan Lee and the MCU overlap. And Dogma is one of my top 5 movies as way
Rip Alan Rickman, he was such a fantastic actor. I first saw him as Snape in Harry Potter, i grew up with those movies and later watched so many other movies with him in it .
This is Kevin Smith’s best film in my opinion. This is the movie that made the Westboro Baptist Church target Kevin Smith. Kevin ended up helping a bunch of kids get out of that Cult and helped them out financially after they left
When Bethany asks God, "why are we here?" God's response was to "beep" her nose and smile, implying that human kind exists because God has a sense of humor, which is a callback to Bethany and Metatron's first conversation in the mexican restaurant when she asks him what God is like, and he says "lonely, but funny."
If you haven’t already, you need to react to “Clerks”. Silent Bob is played by Kevin Smith, who directs all of the movies he’s in. He rarely speaks, but when he does, it’s always important.
By far, one of the best ensemble casts in cinema history. Phenomenal story that makes the subject matter interesting, digestible and entertaining without being overly offensive. It simply points out that the more humans are involved in interpreting the message of God, the more we mess things up. Legitimately my favorite of the View Askewniverse movies, but they are all full of great dialog, crude humor and awesome characters.
Hopefully they will go back and start there by watching Clerks, Mallrats and Chasing Amy. And the absolute cherry on top would be Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back.
This is such a good movie, honestly my favorite Kevin Smith movie without a doubt. The writing is so on point, and the actual "message" in the movie is pretty good to boot. The acting is, hit or miss depending on the character but overall, it's a damn good movie with good actors an amazing script and one of the best cameos ever lol Sadly, Kevin Smith got so much hate and actual death threats over this movie. I believe specifically 3 death threats (he's talked about this in interviews over the years lol) but you know, it still sucks. Alan Rickman is just SUBPERB in this movie, gives it his all as usual. And Jason Mewes (aka Jay) was so respectful of having an award-winning major actor like Rickman that he learned not only his lines but everyone else's lines so he wouldn't mess up in front of an S-tier actor like Rickman (and also as a sign of respect).
I am from the same town as the director of this Film Kevin Smith who also played Silent bob and Jason Mewes.who plays Jay. when the film was released in theatres it there where protests by Local Christian (mostly Catholic) groups. The Director Kevin Smith joined the protesters outside the AMC theatre in Eatontown NJ(at Monmouth mall) and the local news station News 12 interviewed him w/o though known who he was.

Dogma is one of my favorite movies ever. I especially enjoyed the character of God. I wish I could purchase this movie in digital form, able to play it on demand on any or even some of my devices, but I can't find it anywhere. I have it on DVD, but DVDs wear out, ya know. All the performances in this movie are beyond great. You haven't seen Alan Rickman in all his glory until you've seen him in Dogma. Same with Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, for that matter. Everyone else in the movie does a fantastic job too.
Great reaction and review of this wonderful movie. As a Catholic even the title is truthful and hilarious and a poke at organized religion. This movie if you can move past the blasphemy and get past your own religious belief structure is based on truth. It's why it is so funny. The other Kevin Smith movies in this cycle are worth watching and reacting to. Chris
I can't help but get this impression that over 75% of the actual humor went over their heads, partially because this seems like their first Kevin Smith film. On top of that, the editing of the video seems to have no idea what parts to leave in or cut out.
So... welcome to the rabbit hole. "Clerks" should have been the first one, but still, it's a good start. And I guarantee, each movie of the universe, you'll love Silent Bob more and more.
