Really wonderful seeing such great educational videos on kidney Health. It's really appreciated throughout the world. I am an IgA patient for last two years without having sugar and blood pressure earlier. My Protein leakage was less than one gram but for the last six months it is between one gram to two grams. I have been taking Ramipril 2.5 grams for the last two years. I am taking one medicine as of now. My Protein leakage is not coming less than one gram. I am taking a plant based diet . But for protein consumption it is very conflicting to me what to take or not to take for controlling the progression.
My question is if I could completely avoid milk , curd , chicken and fish will help me to control the protein leakage?
Secondly between fish and chicken which is better to take and in how many times in a week . Which is easier to flush by kidney?
Your channel is really helping me to modify my life style and food control to control the progression.
Thank you so so much to Dr Hashmi and Ms Michelle

I had my yearly check-up where my doctor was going to review my bloodwork and he went down every thing which can be an issue and “no kidney disease” was one of the things he called off. I’ve been vegan 10 years and really do the WFPB pretty well.
The only thing which is slightly high but by 2 points only, is total cholesterol. I’ve been more focused on soluble fiber and learned how important all legumes are. This got my levels down by 20 points.

Yes diet will help and it is not easy for some to switch over to a plant base diet and may need to think that is for life. In my area there are almost no dietitian I looked up some and they are leaving the proffession. Most likely people can't aford them.

I was wondering if this also contributes to kidney /Creatine urine protein ?… hope you see this doc , and respond.

I have CKD and I also do resistance exercises so, what is the proper number of grams of protein relative to working out so I can lose some fat and add a little muscle? In other words, I'd like you to address that fact that along with poor nutritional habits, most Americans are still far too sedentary, and their bodies are not using the extra protein called for via exercise.

Can you guys recommend a bunch of brands and what not of good foods to get. I think I was looking at some of the "fast food types" of plant based burgers and the nutrition looked super bad. Or some more healthy options? Let's go to the grocery store and film an episode their... :)
12:00 - 4 mils of spilling protein in urine? I didn't understand that. What test tell you how any mills of protein goes in urine? my urine protein test shows under 14 mg/dL m is good. mine is 45.
When would you take one of those drugs to try and lower protein in urine. Like how high a number of protein?
    Another fascinating episode!

Agreed! Would looove to see a video in real time of grocery shopping and fast food order options-because many can have busy days and occasionally pick up food.

Awesome and informative video thanks so much, I am losing around 2000mg - 24 hour of protien and this video has informed on what I need to do and what I need to discuss with my doctors. My question to Dr. Hasmi is do you see patients virtually and do you prescribe the diabetic medications you referenced to patients with CKD and proteinuria that are only pre-diabetic?

@@anu2444 I started taking Losartan and it reduced to 700mg daily. Maybe she needs to increase dosage. There is another drug that can also help called Spironolactone and she can take both Losartan and Spironolactone at the same time.
Do you know what kidney function she has EGFR? She needs to cut down on sodium and protein, maybe a piece of chicken hand size a day or fish hand size like salmon. No red meats or pork as they are harder to process. It would also help if she is overweight to lose some pounds. The only way to get healther is to eat healthy plant based low sodium and low protein.

@@jackattack2060 My mother's egfr is 108. Protein leaking have made her loose a lot of weight. She is now only 45 kg. Iam concerned about the protein in blood.

@@anu2444That is a really high egfr - low EGFR where she would need dialysis would be like 15 or below. Did you mean 108?? Most people dont even have that number for EGFR especially older people. There are medications that help lower protein loss (she may need a kidney biopsy to figure out why she is losing protein). Medications like losartan help lower protein loss as well as lower blood pressure.

I have just been diagnosed with stage 3 kidney disease.
I started intermittent fasting about 3 months ago, not to lose weight, but because I wasn't feeling as well as I usually do.
I am 74, 5ft 2 and weigh 52 kilos, and keep reasonably active.
The doctor said he would start me on meds, I said I don't like taking them, and I forgot to ask what meds and why.
Now he has sent me for tests for diabetes, but the thing is, if this can be controlled by diet and exercise, I am very proactive and will do everything that's required.
I am not sure about medication, as I believe it's never ending once you start, and I also do not tolerate most medications.
I don't know why, maybe because I abused drugs when younger.
I am a beginner with all this, and hearing all different advice is frustrating and confusing.
I have already cut out most junk foods and eat heaps of healthy foods, but according to different "experts" the healthy foods are not all agreed on, so I'm trying to work through this maze to take control of my own health.
Doctor also said because of the rapid loss of function in my kidneys, if it keeps up, I'll be on dialysis in 3 years which I have already decided against.
After listening to numerous videos, I think he can't say that as there are too many differentfactors involved.
Anyway thank you for all the information, and making it easy to understand.

We usually recommend limiting added sugar (like honey or maple syrup) to 1 tsp or less as a serving at one time. So 1 teaspoon of honey is 4 g added sugar. This is usually an acceptable amount in a tea. Check your spoonful amount that you use though and try measuring with a teaspoon to make sure you're not actually having 1 Tablespoon 3x/day.
