    I do Intermittent Fasting and Keto plant based protein..i still eat a little meat protein. I am 9 months sugar, carbs, gluten, alcohol, oxalates, fast food, processed foods and restaurant FREE.
    I lost from 150 pounds to 120 pounds. My high blood pressure went from 203/99 with meds...down to 126/76 on one med only at request of my Nepherologist. And ACE/ARB Lisinopril. My EGFR went from 49 up to 97. My eyebrows have grown back in. All of my labs are in normal ranges except glucose. Not sure why because i am not eating any sugar. My dark circles and bags have gone away from under my eyes.
    But, i just learned that I have ostioperosis.

    Well, I water fasted for 10D and kidney shrunk by 2-3cm. I had to do it because it was getting quite painful. There are growing communities of well informed people who are doing prolonged water fast and supporting one another. They do not gorge on food like as claimed in the video, in fact, more people are starting to find out that breaking the fast properly with gradual increment of juicy fruit like watermelon, is crucial and much more important than the fast itself. Please do not discredit prolonged water fasting because it is curing more and more people with cancer, PKD and more.

      Interesting, but that study didn’t involve fasting. The test group consumed between 1100 and 700kcal per day for five days each month. They called it “fasting mimicking”, but it’s just a very low calorie, plant-based diet. Also, there was a reduction in microalbuminuria, but not in macroalbuminuria: I.e. the intervention didn’t help more advanced kidney disease.

    I am so mad and depressed. I decided to go on the cyclical keto diet. I have been intermittent fasting since December, and now this doctor is telling me the reason my lab results from a week ago show I have high potassium is from me fasting. I recently increased my fasting window from 16:8 to 18:6, thinking I was helping with the reversal of my insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome, but instead I am making my health worse. I am dehydrated, my kidney function level has worsen. Today, I had a brain MRI, and was asked before hand the health of my kidneys, and when I told her the results from my last lab work, she was concerned and was not able to give me the full dosage of the contrast becaude my blood creatinine level is higher than 1.2, 1.5.
    Now I have to switch back to 3 meals a day and give up dairy and find an egg substitute. I was eating 4 eggs daily for almost 3 weeks. I don't know how to give up animal protein for just plant-based. But I have no choice if I want to improvw my overall health.

      All plants have amino acids that your body combines to form proteins. Animal protein is much harder on the kidneys. It also has higher potassium that can be more bioavailable.
      You will meet ALL your nutritional needs eating a wide variety of plants. You can use bags of frozen veggies, brown rice in moderation & tofu .

    I wish he explained more about potassium. I looked at other sources, including studies, and they all say the exact opposite -- potassium levels go down during fasting. I am fasting for autoimmune inflammation, and it helps a lot, but I also have proteinuria, so I don't want to ruin my kidneys in the process of fixing something else.

    • @PlantBasedKidneyHealth
      @PlantBasedKidneyHealth  Год назад +4

      Insulin drives potassium into the cells (lowering blood potassium levels). During longer periods of fasting (usually over 16 hours), insulin levels are typically very low which can lead to high blood potassium levels (since it is not be driven into the cells and is staying in the blood). This doesn't happen to every person that fasts of course. It is mentioned in this video because it is more likely to be an issue in someone with impaired kidney function or someone with Diabetes and impaired kidney function.

    Most important thing to note:
    When you’re fasting, insulin levels decreases and because of this, your body drives potassium into your cells which increases your potassium levels.

      1. Complete blood count - CBC
      2. Complete metabolic panel - CMP
      3. Basic Lipid profile (I believe you need to be fasting for this)
      4. Insulin level
      5. Vitamin D level
      6. Hemoglobin A1C - this test is based on the last 3 months, I recommend getting this done twice a year.

    I skip breakfast, I choose a time such as 12 noon to eat then I eat again around 6pm or 7pm. That's it for me. No snacks unless I am hungry then it might be 10 Almonds or a cup of black coffee with no sugar or substitutes. I started this 2 weeks ago of being extra strict. Stopped using sugar for a long time and a lot of dairy got cut out of my diet a long time ago as well. I was doing a tailored Keto with intermittent fasting. Now I have cut back a whole lot of meat. @@lovejoylynn2 , Yes, it is unfortunate that the Kidney Specialists that I have seen over the years actually have a lack of knowledge really and even lack giving advice on what to eat. The most words that have come from their mouths was, don't eat bananas, cut back on red meat and yes, you can have 3 coffees a day. Now that is amazing help,... hahaha. Yes, I went on a mission to get as much info as I could at the time I was diagnosed late 2015 with Diabetes Type 2 and have had kidney issues since I was in my 20's. I never drank water as I was never given the information that it was important. Thank God for the Internet !! Thank God for RUclips !! My Mother passed at only 59 with Kidney Disease and suffered terribly for the past 5 years before she passed. I learnt a lot of what not to do through my Mum's mistakes. One of those mistakes was taking medication recommended by a Doctor. The side effects can be shocking. Not all side effects are actually recorded by the developer of them, so it seems. I weaned myself off from Humilin (Insulin Injections) just through learning about diet. I don't use canned or packet food anymore and cook vegetables or eat them raw. I have cut back a great deal on meat. I like to keep eating some red meat because it is to avoid anemia which Kidney patients suffer from if they go without their meat protein. Once someone becomes anemic, it is hard to get them back on track with kidney disease.

    I don't agree with his opinion that, when you apply 5/2 diet regime - meaning 5 days a week of eating and 2 days of fasting, at the end of each fasting phase you are very hungry. In my case, when I water fast for a day or two, I feel hunger for up until 12-14 hours in, then it disappears. So I'd rather eat later in the day, not in the morning, then at night I sleep during the hours my body feels hunger. I get up in the morning not craving food and already having fasted for many hours.

For me, intermittent fasting placed more stress on my kidneys maybe due to the large amount of food I consumed during the eating period. My hypothesis is it placed too much stress on my organs and also caused me to over eat during the feeding period. I ended up gaining 22lbs. and stressed my kidneys.

    I was keeping a vegan diet until I got kidney stones. Most vegan foods are high in oxalates which create the stones. I revamped my entire diet to include poultry and fatty fish, and to eliminate many High to Medium oxalate vegetables. Every day I take 2 Royal Chanca Piedra capsules to break up stones. People with kidney stones need to discern which kidney diets that are right for them. There are also different diets depending upon what type of stones one has. Thinking, at first, I had kidney failure not kidney stones, I initiated that diet. It is very different from the kidney stone diet, so one should be very clear what their diagnosis is before pursuing a particular diet.

    After 48hours of no food I simply forget about it altogether.

    This doctor is unaware of the process of autophagy from longer term fasting which kills off unhealthy cells and replace them. There are plenty of studies and research on this topic. Fasting and diet are powerful aids in improving most health issues proven many times by esteemed scientists and doctors. When you remove the fiber your giving your digestive system a break which promotes healing, juicing is incredibly powerful I've experienced many times over. It can help the colon absorb nutrients especially for people who are unhealthy.

    I think part of the problem is these doctors are prescribing certain medications that complicate the problem when its manageable before they got on the medication. Big pharmaceutical companies act like they care about your health when they don't. If they truly did they would be fighting the processed food industry, but they won't. The doctors, big pharma, and insurance companies all benefit from the bad food choices available then prescribe medications... medications isn't how you got sick, food is how you got sick.

    Thanks Dr. Sean Hashmi , now I understood why my husband had high blood potassium, he had stage 5 CKD on a low carb diet and base on this diet he what off for any medication for diabetes . He was doing intermittent fasting , he was doing 204 - 222, actually he was eating one meals a day , doctor said is fine , around 1 month his blood potassium level was up to 6 and the doctor just wondering what he ate and asked him to cut down the high potassium food.
    Do you think he is still ok to do one meal a day, or 168 with 2 meals a day will be more balance?

      @CreativeDee Год назад +4

      I think he should have 2 meals a day making it easier on his body to break the food down rather than in just one meal and he can eat lower potassium foods for a little while until he ses improvement on his potasium levels. I personally take those numbers as a guide as nothing is set in stone.

    One of the keto doctors tells his followers to take electrolytes (which he sells of course) when they are fasting. He likes one or two meals per day. I'm thinking I like my whole food plant based diet better. Eat as much as I want and lower my calorie density by eliminating oils, meats and processeed foods. Have to limit my nuts and seed if I want to lose weight to a out an ounce a day. Palm full of Flax seed after a 30 minute walk is my favorite way to drop into ketosis. Nothing but water until I get hungry (successfully delaying my next meal 2 to 6 hours).

    • @PlantBasedKidneyHealth

      Animal protein and highly processed food is acid producing while whole plant food, especially fruits and veggies is more alkaline producing. When people cut out or reduce animal protein and replace with whole, minimally processed plant foods (especially fruits and veggies) they can prevent or help treat metabolic acidosis and urine acidity.

    My eGFR went up with a chicken sandwich and homemade soup. I was 3a, it went up to 2. Then it went down to 67. When I had hydronephrosis, it was at 55. Creatine levels at hydroneph. were at 1.36. then they went down to .90, then went back up to 1.16. It's like the stock market. I am a caucasian male, 60 years old, Aries ;) and I recently started weight lifting again. This caused weight gain in water. Markedly so. So I drank more water. I take my weight daily in the morning after my "biologicals" and intermittent fast 16/8. My kidney eGFR was at >90 before I took Harvoni (Sofosbuvir/ Lepedesvir) for eight weeks to cure my hep c. I am cured since 2017. While taking Harvoni, I gained 15-20 pounds in weight and most of it was in water. I didn't know it at the time, but the side effects listed was water retention. Since then, my renal health has slowly declined. The prostate was what caused the acute hydronephrosis. Surgery next for this.
    I am conditioning myself for surgery and I want to know if a vegan protein powder would be okay for me at stage 3? I want to eliminate chicken, animal altogether. But, I need a powder that doesn't have ACE K, aspartame in it. Does it exist? Or, should I head straight for the branch chain aminos and supplement with this with measured veg & grain proteins? Your opinion please, since you are not my doctors. I have no idea what brands of keto analogues are available in terms of brand. Thank you.
