Just finishing mine up, a 1980 c30 crew cab dually, swapped the 454/th400 for the 8.1/allison. You will love it when it is done.

Bryan, I am looking forward to the first set of rear tires getting burned down to the ground on the Square Body, and 1991 was the last year for the Square Body.
Lol ya man that will be a tire burner. I am going to be picking up a LSD carrier in the next few weeks.

You are 100% correct. I built the Supra to call out another content creator, and that turned into me building an absolutely insane car. It took a bit to recover financially from my unwillingness to cut corners or compromise. But I am ready to do it again 😁🤘
Love that truck! It’s going to be a beast! Please keep the paint the way it is. I saw a 91 F-150 on Rainman Ray’s channel . The paint was so sun kissed that the truck was pink. The owner maintained it well. It had the been there done that look.

I'm looking forward to this build...I just purchased an 87 3/4 ton 2wd Suburban with a solid running 5.7. I've always dreamed of doing either a duramax or 8.1 swap in a square body

Those GMC & Chevy square body models were built from 1973 - 1991 except the half ton & three quarter ton plain cab pickups were finished in 1987 & the one ton plain cab pickups were finished in 1989.
Brian, please don’t worry about doing this one “right”… just get er done. You have a bad tendency to want to make everything perfect and then things never get done, IE that dodge in the background that was supposed to be your two rig like 4 years ago that was going to be a quick build…. This is going to be an awesome project… just don’t make it a bigger project then it needs to be.

The HD hood is fairly desirable in my neck of the woods. That 8.1 is a great engine to power a tow pig…but man they get horrible fuel mileage. Looking forward to the build series.
Thanks for checking it out. 🤙. Unfortunately hood was shot. We have a work truck in our fleet that has one. Even at 230,000 miles it is running strong, and gets better gas mileage then the one with a 6.0. I think in this instance the better fuel economy is because the 8.1 truck has a 5 speed transmission and the other is the 4L80. Both trucks have a standard axle and a 4.10:1 gear. Although it could also be that I drove the 60 and my uncle drove 8.1. I bet you can guess who has a head your foot though 😂

for an old square body GM truck they can fit any size engine in their motor box no matter how small or big to put in there is always a good room for bigger engines hell even a Cat, or Detroit, or a Cummins from a Semi truck can fit it w/o the hood.
It really is amazing how much room is in there. One of my buddies actually took a truck very similar to this one converted over to a short bed and put a Cummins in it. They are blank slate canvases.
G'afternoon 🤠 . That 8.1 is a hella sweet score considering you'll have better luck finding a bucketful of dragon's teeth before you'll find an 8.1 in my neck of the woods and that'll make for a damn nice tow rig my friend 🙃 ..
I am still baffled that I was able to pick one up for so cheap let alone one with only 110,000 miles. After selling the scrap and some spare parts and pieces that I was able to save, I’ll make most of my money back
The Alison trans is awesome but it makes the truck a bus! I have a 2002 and u can really feel it
We have a couple work trucks with the A1 and Allison and they felt fine. Could roast the tires off of them. I could take everything off the dash and put it right on your lap. That said both those trucks are 2 Wheel Dr. not 4
I would never live in a place where its freezing cold 7 months out of the year and your cars literally dissolve out from under you, Sounds very annoying and very expensive.Its bad enough here in Nc but nothing like that. I mean wow look at that frame! my 40 year old square body doesnt have 1/3 that amount of that rust . This is not that old of a truck
