There's nothing better than starting your day off with a hot cup of coffee and a new TFL Truck video. What a great/unique truck. David put a lot of thought and attention to detail into this build.
I've had the pleasure of experiencing this truck and its quite enjoyable as a going to town rig. I can't wait to see the high quality of his next project.
That truck is what I wanted to build for towing my fifth wheel. I knew it would be loud. I found quiet, good used Duramax diesels , with Allison trannies,4x4, for about half what it would cost to do a similar Cummins swap.
My dads got a Duramax and Allison in his GMC. Tows a 4x4 forklift and bee nooks from California like he's cruising. All the wars between powerstrokes and Cummins and the Druramax's are getting the work done trouble-free.
I, and likely many others, have dreamed of trying a build much like this. There's no reason he shouldn't get out of it what he put into it, its a beautiful rig.
I am jealous, I live in the city and have no room for anything this BIG.... great job David for the build..... winters will be brutal for the diesel in Canada.😎
My cousin built one just like that about 15 years ago. It was his daily driver/tow rig/farm truck for years. He sold it around the time he got married, because it was too loud. Says he still misses it.
Think one day you'll regret selling it. I always kick myself in the butt when I remember selling my 1988 Ford 7.3L IDI. Think was a beast and never let me down. Also was nice not having car payments.
I completely understand, David. I have a '99 F-550 XL cab/chassis with a dump body...with the 7.3 liter. There is nothing lacking in the truck that would make me want to purchase a newer or different truck, EXCEPT...the noise of the engine. I wish it were quieter. All the best on your new build!!! Thank you both and all of the TFL crew for your great, informative videos : )
@@cyclesingsleep, definitely worth the investment. The HPX crossover pipe is about $60 and the FRX is $185 or so. The HPX is a breeze to install, the FRX is a little more labor intensive but worth it. The motor quiets down and actually idles much smoother since the air in the fuel system doesn’t get pushed through the injectors. Rather it gets returned to the return line off the fuel filter housing.
I'm in Idaho & we snowmobile all winter & stay in McCall, I have never have any issues with my fass freezing up on b4. I'm kinda lazy about draining my water separator, just b4 winter is all. Love my squares a ton & now with commonrails & Allison's... anyone can drive them.
I just bought a 2016 Tundra 5.7l to pull my 25ft camper, going into retirement. This would have been a nice option. My 2005 4runner 4.7 v8 has 214k miles. Runs like new.
My father hates auctions now lol (he is retired but once sat at the top of a conglomerate that was parent company of a company that has or had the largest dealer exclusive auto auctions in Canada, and Northern USA, working with ALL the largest auto makers, selling them back their own cars lol), but if he seen this for sale, he would pay asking price, on the spot, then drive it back to Vancouver 🤣 Before we left Japan to pursue the above mentioned path, he had a long corporate career with Toyota Motor Corporation (Japan), so I grew up in the automotive industry! Men are always surprised that this 4ft 10" Japanese girl drives a very modded, Magnuson supercharged 4Runner TRD Off Road, and not only knows everything about it lol, but she knows vehicles, period😂 My fiance is the only guy that wasn't intimidated by that!
Haha it took awhile but we all knew the real reason any man sells his baby....the wife hates it! Thats a tale as old as the automobile itself...best of luck on the new project David!
He's selling it cause he ruined it with that Cummins. I have the same truck and I rebuilt the 454, to 450 hp and 700 ft lb. Both me and my wife love it, sounds so good and runs quiet on the highway.
David! If you’re reading this, you need to MLV the floor and firewall! MLV stands for Mass Loaded Vinyl. Dynamat does not kill low frequency noise, it dampens resonance on metal panels. The noise issue you have is low frequency. You need to MLV treat the floor. Look up a company called Resonix and if you did this treatment, you wouldn’t sell it!
Man that's the mother of unicorns in trucks! I would offer him 20 grand on top of whatever other potential buyers would offer him if I had the money!😢❤
Man looks like one bad fart and it would shred that seat. Doesn't look too bad for a work truck tho. To get what he wants from it ahh lots of groups out there with trucks like this for sale. I'd say 15k would be a fair number on it.
The seat isn't as fragile as it looks. But for a couple hundred it can be reupholstered to look new. Also if it wasn't a Cummins swap 15k would be about right but that Cummins adds extra value
@@danatkinson6698 check out some cummins groups. I'm very familiar with whats in the truck. Ive built 3 cummins swaps. Trucks like this get listed for 10-18.
If 3+3 means 6 people in South American they would be have a badge for 8+10 8 in the cabin and 10 in the bed going up mountain and cross country to pick up onions, tomatoes and potatoes in the farm.
All that and he didn't even swap out the muffler bearings? Wow. Talk about a n00b. Everyone knows the muffler bearings are a serious problem on these old rectangle bodies. It's an even bigger issue on the circle bodies, and don't even get me started on all the issues with the triangle bodies.
I'm just joking, but is David complaining about the noise from the Cummins or his wife's complaining? After watching, this seems like an elongated "Sales Add" for David!
I have the same truck and David ruined it with that Cummins. A rebuilt 454 would have more power, isn't annoying after 10 minutes, and starts in the winter. Adding 600 lbs to the front end didn't do it any favors either. I personally can't wait until the Diesel swap fad goes away.
I think you said a lot with only one of your words: rebuilt. You will never need to rebuild a Cummins. Plus if you want to talk power, the Cummins can handle pretty much all the power you want and is well supported in the aftermarket. I’m not even a Cummins fan, don’t have one, don’t have a diesel other than my tractor.
A 454 makes 200 ish horse power. A 5.9 12 valve with a simple pump mod makes leaps of power of a 454. Tons more towing. Better fuel economy. Tons more reliability
@@bryandepiazzy8679 I got my truck with 100k on the stock 454, put another 200k on it with no issues, rebuilt it when it started using oil, just bad rings, rest of the motor was perfect. With a mild build I got 450hp and over 700 ft lbs for $5k worth of parts, did all the work myself. I get 10 mpg towing 20k in the mountains, way better than a new stock Diesel and way cheaper than a built 12 valve. The truck is fun to drive and sounds amazing. I did my research before rebuilding my motor cause everybody said put a Cummins in it, turns out "performance diesel" is all smoke and mirrors, I got buddies with tuned trucks, yeah, no thanks. @@bryandepiazzy8679 You're trying to compare a stock NA gasser to a modified forced induction diesel. I like my cummins a lot, but a 454 has its place and can work pretty well for cheap. Throw an intake, set of longtube headers, and a cam at the 454 and they can make 500hp usually without much trouble.

New engines are extremely quite. With no legal option to make them louder. The emissions systems are a headache and a half
Add the riff raff diesel HPX and FRX systems onto the engine and you’d be amazed at how much quieter the old 7.3L gets.

Just place solid 3 layer sound deadening in cabin and under the hood/on firewall.
Cool truck, except for the hokey PVC ball valve and cross flow pipe between the tanks.

A better together reserve on it but the truck is going to bring some very good money by the time the auction is over.
Hope David finds an interested party to buy his truck.

Not sure how anyone could part with a truck like that. I know David only runs Michelin’s, but some 35 inch KO2’s and that would be perfect!
Michelin and BF Goodrich are made by the same company, so that would be perfectly fine!
