@@evanchristopherclarinet1559 Johnny Dodds for instance...or maybe not.. form the old pictures his clarinet seems to have had six mobile rings as a "full" Bohem (those descending to the written low e flat)

I once asked Dr Alvin Baptiste, would he perform on an Albert system clarinet, "I'm not crazy". Well this is as sweet as insanity could possibly get. Smoke n smiles from this Masters horn, sure makes my ears n feet dancy.
I've played in big bands / jazz bands for almost 50 years and have always had to double on clarinet (+ bass clarinet and flute). To say that there are no clarinets in jazz band is not at all accurate. To be fair, though, you should learn sax - it's not a big jump (and I think it's easier than clarinet).
@@johnfogg7858I will disagree with you in terms of him learning sax because of Jazz, in Cuba and some related countries The Clarinet is very dominant in their own traditional Jazz, so we need to encourage more clarinet players to start practicing how to improvise
I was told same when I was in the university, but by Gods Grace I have my own band where the clarinet plays a leading role in various genres like Jazz, pop, highlife
@@Officialclarinetman I'm talking about the real world in the USA where there are WAY more musicians than there are opportunities to play for money. I deeply dig , Evan ain't scared to inventively hang in the lower register. And flawlessly manipulates the dreaded "break" like hes playing a 4' long B-flat. Swinging while percolating. ThanQ for the post

I got sent here by a sax player! Horn men gotta stick together, especially with this much talent on skins and strings. Great video close ups and cutting.
Alexis, I'm very flexible with my embouchure. Probably too much so. Sometimes, I use pressure from the top lip istead of teeth, but teeth are always resting on the mouthpiece.
I didn't know clarinet could sound this smooth. Wish my brother sounded like this when he was practicing
At the beginning he, i think, was doing a thing called smearing. It’s really cool and smooth to listen to but fairly difficult
I would recommend wooden clarinets for a smoother sound
Is your brother squidward?
Kilroywashere 03 Increadably difficult I imagine
Ha!
Not enough Clarinet in popular music. You show why we need more. Thank you.
I agree, sometimes it feels like an underestimated instrument.

That guitar tone is to die for
David Blenkhorn, Australian living in Southern France
How he made seven minutes sound like twenty is beyond me. That was an adventure.
Haha. Happens often. ..."Geez, that guy's concert felt like it was FOREVER! I thought it would never end.
THE FOUR MASTERS OF THEIR INSTRUMENTS
Man, I appreciate when I find someone that plays the clarinet too! Seems like an underrated instrument. Loved it!
same
I think that too,it is very beautiful sounding instrument, none can equal the sound, the sax can't do it either
largest range eof any wind instrument. From 4 below to 4 above the staff. We have a 4 octave range.
I always like the sound of jazz clarinet! Sax is great, but the clarinet has something mellow and smooth about it that the sax can't match!
agreed
So true,no comparison, clarinet is such an amazing instrument,so underated,so versatile, can go so low, then so high, wow
Agree!
In highschool I took jazz band, and I had to play saxophone, and to this day I'm still salty. Clarinet is so perfect for jazz, yet underappreciated.
Even worse is trumpet, too often too schrill.
The dynamics, the tone, the speed! Cannot imagine all the practice.
If this is improv, then I’m even more impressed than I normally would be. As someone who plays clarinet, that guy is seriously impressive
Two things: 1) Thank you. Of course this is 90% jamming. 2) If I had to read the music of what I played, I couldn’t play it
@@Clarinetroad I’m so jealous, I’m new to jazz and trying to learn improv. I just don’t know where to start :’/

Fantastic sounds. Jazz just kicks with fast licks.
Gotta love a good old Oehler system clarinet
Nope. Just Albert system. ...This is an old Selmer with 6 rings. Maybe that's why it looks like it has more keys.
Unbelieveable, how the clarinet playing can be so smooth. Big like from Hungary. 👍😁

That clarinet looks like Selmer, with Albert system fingering; the instrument, I think, was made nearly 100 years ago… Stradivari of clarinets! 🙂
