I posted this on my facebook back when I was 13 years old. Can't believe I had such good taste back then haha. I need to get back to my roots... And pick my trumpet back up as well.
Not only was your taste good but it was exceptional 👌🏾 I started being taught to listen to jazz at 5 yrs old in 1957. When I first heard a young wynton marcellus, herbie Hancock introduced him at the Chicago jazz fest. Before he won any awards, he came to my hometown Jacksonville Florida. I and a friend met him in his dressing room. He played with a fellow musician of mine in NYC and that was my intro, mentioning my friend's name. I'm a sax player. We had a great conversation. When I heard wynton play, I heard every great player in his horn. I knew then that he would play a significant role in jazz. Wynton grew to become the new face of jazz and also the reviver of jazz. His brilliance of music beat back all critics who dared to criticize America's only original music. So you picked at 13yrs old, jazz's giant genius. Great pick!
This may be the finest New Orleans style jazz I have ever heard, and I listen to a LOT of it! Just outstanding. Just listening to Summertime. I'm stunned!
I originally found this video 10 years ago, and then couldn't find it 2 years ago, or so. There are not enough adjectives to describe the tremendous talent these people have. I went to this video the night my father died in 2019 in hopes of consoling myself. It didn't work, but still gave me comfort. Thank you for preserving the full concert. I am in your debt.
Thanks for the reupload! I'm glad you managed to save it. If you want to add the missing titles to your description, they are: 1:05:41 Weary Blues (A Matthews) 1:20:14 Blue Horizon (S Bechet) 1:31:54 Dear Sidney (B Wilber) I would also quibble about a few of the composers you have: - Smith only wrote the words to 'The Sheik of Araby'; the tune was written by Ted Snyder. - 'The Way I Ride' is not a Marsalis original - I couldn't find an definite writer, but the earliest recording I found was by Wooden Joe Nicholas. - Nat King Cole's Joe Turner Blues is a different blues - this one is an old WC Handy tune, with W Hirsch words. - Louis Armstrong didn't write O When The Saints; the real writer is lost to history.
I couldn't find the 2 hour recording on youtube so I assumed it was copyright striked. Luckily I downloaded it for a flight, so I accidently preserved one of the best jazz recordings out there. The picture quality seems to be worse, but I hope the audio quality isn't. I'll try to reupload it every time it gets taken down.Jazz at Lincoln Center

Nunca vi tanta perfeição num lugar so, imagine como será nos céus. Se não foi ELE que criou tudo isso , não sei quem foi... Tudo quanto tem fôlego louve ao SENHOR . I have never seen so much perfection in one place, imagine what it must be like in heaven. If it wasn't HE who created all this, I don't know who did... Let everything that has breath praise the LORD
