Jack and Gary were never distracted by Keith's vocalizing. Nor were they distracted when Keith left the keyboard and played the piano strings like a grand piano sized harp. They were as in awe of Keith's genius as was everyone else blessed enough to see him play live, even more so. The three of them playing together was mesmerizingly beautiful to behold. And contrary to the foolishness that Keith was dismissive to his audience, he is lovely person. No one in the audience enjoyed what they were doing as much as the three of them did. It was apparent how much they loved playing together, and how much they loved each other. Sadly Gary has passed. Jack is still playing. Keith is recovering from his strokes of some six years ago. He thinks it was caused by the physical stress he experienced when he delivered a performance, stress especially on his brain. All he asked for from his audience was to pay attention and enjoy what he was giving to them. I know I did. The three autographed my copy of Standards 1 after they played in Houston at the Wortham in the early 90s. All were very gracious when I asked. In the 00s, I saw them play at the Mann. Love Gary Peacock’s virtuous playing so melodic, and Jack’s classic cymbal and percussion , remembering the beautiful album ,” My Song “ , Keith Jarret laying previously the exact melodic notes. Also use of dissidence as in Mandela. Jan, those days on sax, purity , faith and prayer .
Just wonderful! EXCELENT! Keith is a genius, and the other musicians also, they play with their body, mind and soul... Their inspiration is pure vibration of life. Pure joy, pure life!

I think that just listening to Keith Jarrett trio is not enough. One has to watch them but particularly Keith as he plays with whole his body. Watching this is as fascinating as listening to their the music
don´t grind me too harshly, but I have always found the brilliance of Jarret subsumed by his histrionics and groaning....I have always been impressed by Peacock and Jack and their ability to follow his desultory stylings
It never used to bother me, but the other day I heard this trio on the radio and sort of laughed at how absurd it sounded. Maybe I've grown a bit conservative. I have seen so many legendary jazz musicians perform live and had thought that perhaps the musician I wanted to see above all others was Keith Jarrett. It saddens me that that will most likely never happen.
Subsumed? Not for me. I am not fond of the noises either, but the tremendous lines he plays always win. If that's what it takes for a piano to be so fluid and bell-like at the same time, I'll take it. :)
We have all listened to various greats and trio formations, but this is so unique that I have tears in my eyes when I listen to this masterpiece. If we are talking about this level of musicianship, then it is very difficult to deviate from this superiority, I say this as an amateur musician, but I have listened to a lot so that I can comment like this. These people are prophets of good times, past or future, you decide...
One of my favourite concerts for the trio. I've listened to this sooo many times. Thanks for uploading! And nice to see the comments of people appreciating music here :)
Jack's drum solos begin around the 34:00 mark, and then again at the 55:30 mark, for those of you searching for them! The call-and-response section of Stella starts at about 1:23:30. Keith's shoulder shrugging dance peaks at about 1:33:57. One final excellent drum solo at 1:34:50.
An amazing Trio.Caught them live 3 or 4 times. Nothing like it. Jack and Keith go way back, before Miles, w. Charles Lloyd's band. Their bond is incredible, as is Peacock.
how did you manage to stay silent and not risk Keith's wrath in hearing all this live? I don't know if I could have stood it. Listening to it now, streaming, it still has me trembling man... That work that Jack is doing on the second cut.. my God
Keith did time with Blakey too, right? Did Jack? ....I saw them live, a few yrs b4 KJ got sick... yes, it's hard to stay quiet during... i hadda waggle my booty privately a bit... and yes , that nonverbal communication w/ all 3, esp. Keith and Jack... it shows up better on camera in close-up, than being in an auditorium... consistently stunning work, but esp. here
It takes what I like to call listening experience when it comes to truly allowing yourself to be absorbed into Jarrett's sonic landscapes. Keith Jarrett is a master craftsmen, he's an event horizon witnessed in our lifetime. After you've gained that ability, around two or so years laying back listening to Keith on your audiophile system, that cost you about ten grand, that's without the speakers, they required endless nights of testing, by appointment only in one the finest Stereo equipment shops in Europe, France, but who's name dropping here, our focus has to stay on Jarrett, now that that's complete, your mission is to spend that time listening to one powerfully dedicated musician, and since all of this has been put together, you've got magic my fellow Jazz men, a rare taste of being one w/ his Excellency's work. Bravo!
Wow, that long jam between 1:08 and 1:16 just shows that these guy could ROCK. Loved the camera focus on Gary. And then Keith goes right into Stella, without even a break; totally in the zone. Keith is an odd bird, but an authentic genius. Nobody else like him!
In fact there was. Glenn Gould [1932-52], who, despite vocalising like KJ, is recognised as the greatest interpreter of The Goldburg Variations [J.S.Bach]. Vocalising in recordings of 'classical music' is even more difficult to tolerate than in jazz but Gould's unique and supreme rendition of the Goldburgs withstood that. A friend of mine is good friends with Jack de J. and indeed we all went 'for an Indian' in NYC. When I asked them how they regarded the K.J. vocalising, he just raised their eyes as to say, "We have to put up with it". OK by me
@Christopher Nation Excellent, thank you!! Bach!!! Remember, today is Dr. Martin is Dr. Martin Luther KingJr.,'s birthday. We celebrate this day, January 16th, 2023, as all muscians and artists play to the tune of Dr. Martin Luther KingJr., message still is.♥️
Had the pleasure of seeing this trio at the Convention Center in Dallas, Tx. on 10/11/87. It appears this concert is from around the same time. Three master musicians. This video brings back so many great memories of that show.
I saw his last concert at Carnegie Hall. For many years we could only see him locally either at New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark or at Carnegie Hall. Amusingly he didn't want anyone to talk of even cough. There were hard candies offered at the door to help him maintain order. He refused to play outdoors and the only time I saw him do so was with Miles at Newport in 1969.
Regarding the cough, I read an article in the mid-Seventies, which may have been in Rolling Stone, wherein he said that an extraneous sound such as a door closing could change the direction of his improvisation.
Yes! This. Exactly this! I couldn't agree more with you and there is just a whole other level of pure, exceptional magic in these minutes that move me in such a deeply powerful way that words simply always fail me and only the music itself can possibly convey...Absolutely brilliant.
Yeah; what keeps getting me in awe is how they transition from what was before to their 'up there' moment, it's never clear how much of it is planned, or how they just kind start 'levitating'
Veramente perfetto. GRAZIE.

Note, typing, I meant playing not laying. The latter no place in pure intellectual compositions . Bruce Tribe.
unforgettable!! excellent trio!! to always listen! cheers!👍🙂 ,,---",,
Just wonderful! EXCELENT! Keith is a genius, and the other musicians also, they play with their body, mind and soul... Their inspiration is pure vibration of life. Pure joy, pure life!
nice to hear gary peacock open up his playing
Demonstrates that you don't need any theatrics or mind numbing amplification. Just pure talent providing superb listening enjoyment.
He is a great player, but performs with constant theatrics with all his noises and body gyrations..
jack dejohnette's kit sounds SO GOOOOOOD. it's got that POP
This has to be the most resonant Bass ever !
Keith Jarrett should have been chain whipped for his vocalizations.
GREAT! I feel happy.
Thank you kindly🎶🎶🎶
@@hooptyfilm Of course! I like to tag drum solos on live jazz videos... because I'm a nerd, I guess.
Keith and Jack... it shows up better on camera in close-up, than being in an auditorium... consistently stunning work, but esp. here
Y would jack play drums for art?
OK by me
Wonderfull! RIP Peacock.
definitely hit a groove
@Christopher Nation
Excellent, thank you!! Bach!!!
Remember, today is Dr. Martin is Dr. Martin Luther KingJr.,'s birthday. We celebrate this day, January 16th, 2023, as all muscians and artists play to the tune of Dr. Martin Luther KingJr., message still is.♥️
@@christophernation4793 Keith Jarrett should have been chain whipped for his vocalizations.
Had the pleasure of seeing this trio at the Convention Center in Dallas, Tx. on 10/11/87. It appears this concert is from around the same time. Three master musicians. This video brings back so many great memories of that show.
Thank you !
I have to ask - do you remember the date or you looked it up?
I confirmed the date from my concert log.
BRAVISSIMO! WONDERFUL MUSIC AND PERFORMANCE! THERE IS FOOD FOR THE HEART AND MIND! HEALTH, GOOD LUCK AND SUCCESS!
The transition to the main theme at (19:06) is so fine.
confermo! uno dei migliori concerti mai ascoltati. Raro momento di affiatamento , grazie
Its the singing for me. lol This is music!!
?
Regarding the cough, I read an article in the mid-Seventies, which may have been in Rolling Stone, wherein he said that an extraneous sound such as a door closing could change the direction of his improvisation.
If I'm paying Jarrett ticket prices for a concert, I don't want you to talk or cough either. :)
outdoors music inn lenox mass...mid 70s
From 1:07:48 onwards for 10 minutes is such a good theme
Best intro ever... Period
I don't Know what but it must be more than music. .thank you
The last 6 oder 7 minutes in "Prism" are just pure magic, pure harmony between the players. It always gets me...always...
Yes!
Few of the brightest minutes in the history of music.
@@joshklein6450 So true, thank you!
I usually don't cry when listening to music. Usually...
True musical artists

Musiciens fabuleux .
Mi rifugio qui.
Sono stata isolata dal Mondo
In this concert everything is really awesome.
Veramente perfetto. GRAZIE.
