    Can fire ants conquer water? Moving my massive fire ant colony into their new home, a 100 gallon South American biotope (all animals and plants from South America) paludarium (half land- half water) was an intense experience to witness! At the onset, it seemed the fire ants, a colony we call the Fire Nation, was having troubles dealing with the river we made in the setup, not to mention being completely chastised by the river's fish. Watch how the Fire Nation deals with their new life in the Selva de Fuego, and check out the surprises and twists that happen along the way. Hope you guys enjoy this week's episode!

I've always loved nature and watched quite a lot of National Geographic and Discovery Channel but this is actually much better. If more documentaires were filmed and narrated like this with other animals as subjects people would get much more invested in the natural world I think.

    Not gonna lie... I really REALLY hate bugs. Some bugs more than others, but virtually every bug has been terrifying me for YEARS. For whatever reason I was drawn to one of your fire ant videos, so I clicked on it and stayed watching the whole thing because of your positivity and friendly nature.
    Now after binge-watching most of the fire ant videos on your channel, I can truly say that you've helped me at least appreciate the intelligence and curious nature of the little guys. Now there's at least ONE less insect I'm terrified of :P

  • @theKashConnoisseur
    @theKashConnoisseur 6 лет назад +106

    I'm going to watch the next video even if you don't put in a cliffhanger. We've named these colonies, we've watched them grow, we're already invested enough in them to keep coming back.
    I think that the cliffhanger format doesn't work as well here because of the weekly video release schedule. There's too much time between each installment, whatever tension and/or excitement was built by the cliffhanger fully fades and key details of the ongoing story are at least partially forgotten. The more episodes (and thus cliffhanger endings) it takes to tell a particular story, the less I recall of the overall narrative. The end result is that I actually feel LESS engaged and excited by the videos.
    I feel like a cliffhanger ending format would work much better with daily uploads. The story elements would be fresh in mind, the delicious tension of unresolved conflict would have less time to fade away, and the frustration of waiting for the conclusion to the cliffhanger wouldn't have as much time to grow.
    Anyways, just some thoughts I've had. Like I said, I will keep watching regardless because it's Ant Love Forever.

      I actually think cliffhanger is good for weekly video, just like drama series, you are right that it has so much time in between, but having cliffhanger is better than not having one. It gives viewer stronger impression and have more desire to watch the next ep when it comes up.

      I don’t mind cliff hangers when they don’t feel too forced. I get annoyed at cliff hangers like the fog and disappearances on El Dragon, and this situation where he was moving in the Fire Nation. It feels clear it’s something simple, or something he already found out and could say in two seconds. I was staring at the skull in the El Dragon video going “They’re in there aren’t they? Also, that fog seems really controlled.” And lo, both were right. The worst was the one before this video. I felt so damn annoyed. “Don’t you dare tell me he’s acting so horrified, when I know damn well he moved that tube even before he posted the video.” And then it turned out that was literally all he needed to do, save move those aquatic plants a bit. I’m fine with cliffhangers, just not ones that treat you like an idiot, and try to get you excited over rather menial things in the end.

    so what ever happened to the poll you made a while back about making 2 vids a week?

    • @AntsCanada
      @AntsCanada  6 лет назад +74

      I tried to compromise by attempting a live stream in the middle of the week this week and it sadly failed. I will do my best to make a second video during the week happen.

      And his narration and cliff hangers. I've never really known that much about ants but I'm already hooked on the fate of the fire nation. Such real-world drama.

    Could you do a "how to" type of video on paludarium creation? Tell us how to build one, what bacteria we need, where do you get the plants and other things like that. I really want to create one myself, but I have 0 experience.

    Yunno what you should do? Slowly collect and grow more and more ant colonies and rent or buy a room to display all of your ant colony collection for fans to visit and see the progress in person. Your amazing landscaping for your ants are so beautiful its a shame to hide it and only use it for video purposes.
    You can probably even make money for showcasing it as education and gain more money that would fund your collection and grow your channel more.

      Setting up a place that could be visited would be extremely difficult. He'd need to hire someone full-time to watch over it. He'd have to set up a mechanism to sell tickets, he'd have to rent a location that could handle both the foot-traffic, and any parking issues, and even then, he'd only be able to cater to the Philippines, while most of his fans are in North America. For those interested in ant colonies, it isn't too difficult to search for public museums with ant colonies on display. There are some excellent ant colony setups all over the globe!

    Fire ants can't raft in very tiny groups (< ~16), so if they fell into the water in pairs or one at a time, you wouldn't expect they could raft.

    Some people are bothering about wanting 2 videos a week, but I personally don’t care how many, I prefer quality over quantity. It must take a lot of effort and preparation to make a video every week.

    This channel is what I look forward to every Saturday!
    What’s up with all the “disappointment” comments, if you don’t like his dramatic effect that move onto another channel, I think the way he’s doing his videos are amazing and keeps everybody (kids, teens, adults, cats, dogs, etc.) entertained!
