One of your fish has a very minor infestation of Ich, which is common amongst easily stressed fish like Chili Rasboras.
Keep a close eye on that, if the fish continue to stress for any reason, it'll spread rapidly and become devastating.

At 20:42 look on the glass (right side) and you'll see a small white dot, that's a Nerite snail egg‼️ Nerite eggs only hatch in brackish water though.. so you might want to take that female back and trade it for a male‼️ Otherwise it will continue to glue little white eggs all over the place and since it's fresh water they won't hatch and will just rot away 😬
Pretty much nothing eats them. You can scrap them off with a razor blade but they always leave behind little white rings regardless lol

It would be appropriate to name them based on the volcano theme of the habitat. I’d say the fish school should be called the Burning Flow, since they’re Ember Tetras, the snail should be called the Fire Hermit since it’s alone, the shrimp should be called the Cherry Bombs since they’re Cherry shrimp, and the crayfish should be called the Deep One of Volcania, since the ants would probably see them as a mysterious eldritch abomination.

I really hope this ecosystem works out, the contrasting environments combined with the stunning vibrant colors are just incredible! The shadowed back shot size comparison around 11:30 was SO impressive and very tastefully artsy! I really had no clue just how enormous this microcosm actually was and I'm all in on seeing how this turns out. The crayfish is just too cool, I had two as a kid and one of them immediately killed a fish once introduced to the environment... so 🤞🤞 it will turn out to be the more chill kind!

The crayfish I've observed in the wild in Lake Huron are definitely more dedicated scavengers than hunters. Very rarely I'll see one with a small shiner in its claws but more often than not they're happier to just sift through the rocks and eat whatever they come across. That could just be because there is an abundance of food in the shallows and there is no need to actively hunt though

Ohh that would have been so cool. Unfortunately, axolotls are very delicate aquatic animals, and (especially considering the gravel) would not be able to thrive in this kind of environment. That's my opinion at least...

I think there are enough water beasts in Volcania’s waterways for now. I feel if we add anymore with will become over complex especially since there is a crayfish now in the waters and he is a top predator who needs lots of space. Perhaps some more snails for the future unless the breed out of control but that’s all I recommend.

  • @alexisgrunden1556
    @alexisgrunden1556 Год назад +15

Might want to get another snail, for your current cleaner to potentially breed with. There wouldn't be many snail-lets; between the shrimp and the crawfish especially, there wouldn't be a lot. But it would help keep your carnivorous micro-moat monsters fed~
And how many times do I need to say it, AC? _Use RED lights to view your ants!_ They can't see that wavelength of light, so you can peep into the nest without freaking them out.

Hi AntCanada I have some name suggestions that you may like
The Cherry Shrimp can be called Bigaroon which means a group of sweet cherries which I would think would be appropriate
The Crayfish can be called Sequoia which means it is a gentle giant and can also mean redwood especially the California redwood which seems very fitting.
The Chili Rasboras should be called Fire sparks because their colour seems similar to a fire and can turn to various colours
Finally Nerite Snail should be called Algafred because he eats algae and I can’t think of another sutitble name
Thank you for your time for reading this Ant love forever❤❤❤.

It is all looking wondrous and well planned out. I’m glad to see the Cherry Shrimps I suggested (along with many others I’m sure), as well as the school of fishes (though I had suggested Neon Tetras for their similar behaviours). The Canadian Crawfish is adorable.
I would call the fish “The Sparks” because they float against the darkness like sparks across the night sky from a campfire. The Snail could be named “Lava, for his generally slow movement. The Crawfish is difficult as we have only seen him on moving in day…but maybe call him “Lucifer” since he is the King of the deeps (which I think of as Pele’s Pool). The Cherry Shrimps could be named “The Fireballs” for their quick and constant motion.🖤🇨🇦

I'm always watching your videos as an intellectual curiosity, and I think you're getting closer and closer to a sustainable ecological model. I like to work with enclosed aquatic systems, and one of the things I work closely with which you have brushed upon is carrying capacity. When the ants stop putting their trash into the trash pile, it probably means the ability for the trash pile to accept new trash has depleted. This is unavoidable with infinite growth over finite space, and if every creature were it's own checks and balances the Queen would simply stop reproducing. However, that's not how it works. The checks and balances take place as interspecies competition more often than not, and so we need foodwebs which are essentially pathways for the nutrients in food to carry energy from photosynthesizers to consumers. All your food web really needs is a sustainable population of primary consumers (think shredders, such as grasshoppers to eat plants and become food for the ants). Biodiversity may help here. The second thing you will want is terrestrial rooting plants and a way for nitrate heavy water to make it to those roots. They could be aquatic, but having the ants eat the primary consumers would be more difficult, so I feel like a way to pump moat water into the terrestrial plant area occasionally would make the most sense. I would love to collaborate to make an enclosed ant ecosystem some day.

As someone who is super into aquascaping and tanks I absolutely LOVVEEE what you have added and actually chili rasboras are my all time favs -! They do brighten up in a good environment once they setlle : D
Crayfish are notorious for chompin on anything unluckily enough to get caught- so it'll be interesting to see how it goes
Im not sure what the 'tank' parameters would be- but if the chili's end up dying off I would totally recommend some livebearers if there's enough space- they will breed and have baby small fry which will be extra food for crayfish and help keep population going ideally

@AntsCanada, AC comunity or basically anyone who is reading this comment and knows some stuff about ants in the UK. I have 4 Ant Queens that I caught yesterday when it was (at least 1 of the ant species) nuptial flight and I had two questions about them I want to ask:
    1. Are there multiple days of ant nuptial flight perhaps depending on what species the ant Queens are?
    2. It gets pretty hot here in the UK so I was wondering where you'd suggest I keep the Ant Queens during their early stages?
Love your videos, they're so helpfull, inspiring and informative!! :D Thank you!

Last week I encountered an active ant trail coming into my kitchen through a poorly sealed door. At first I was worried and couldn’t understand why they were coming in. But because of this channel I then realised they must be trailing because of some kind of open food, I searched the kitchen and found they’d trailed all the way from outside for some olden syrup. But instead of panic and calling over the landlord I used my ants knowlage to put a closer source of food into a little bottle cap and used some powers on the door to stop them from being able to get in as easily and a week later after moving the food source further from the door I now have no more ant problems! I feel so happy to have been able to use my ant knowledge 😂

I always find it amazing to see these people forming aquatic habitats. I don't know if I could ever do something like that. I mean, the cycling, the month long wait before adding more life to it, the acclimation, the formation of a food web to sustain it, the salinity if you're talking a saltwater aquarium, it just seems all overwhelming to me. That's why I strayed away from fish and anything that needed water to live in when I started getting into exotic pets was because I felt like it would be an impossible task for me to handle everything that goes into it. I still feel like it's at the very least a much harder task than caring for an animal that is 100% terrestrial.
