@@NewtBannner I think that the earliest opportunity in which you can obtain a counter crest is from defeating Tuskmon; I think that he drops them sometimes. I don't think that it's possible to encounter Tuskmon until some stage after you make it past Zanbamon with the smelly herb. Even if you were to do the maximum amount of damage against Zanbamon and then strike him with a counter moments afterwards, I suspect that the counter would do 0 damage; I think that it's programmed so that Zanbamon's HP can't fall under a certain amount, same as Bulbmon during the first encounter.
@@GreenApple968 You can actually get counter crests from Triceramons and tuskmons in Plug Cape super early in the game. If my memory doesnt fail me, you can defeat zanbamon with a counter after u attack them, the dialogue is just the same. That was years ago tho so maybe u can try that and see!
@@lLucaDGV I don't think that the Tuskmons appear in the Plug Cape until some stage after you make it past the Zanbamon at the Jungle Grave. Also, I believe that the Triceramons drop TNT Balls, and not Counter Crests.
Dude... I already knew that one hit KO wasn't effective against boss enemies, but I liked to see all your efforts. To be honest I just couldn't help but to like this video seeing that you grinded to level 72 (with kumamon, one of the hardest) before reaching Suzaku City. Nicely done!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I personally didn't think that the grinding was as tough as I was expecting it to be. The Divermons are a good source for grinding when you're at a pre-Suzaku stage. Once you have access to the Suzaku City I would say that the Numemons in the Jungle Shrine are then the best Digimon available to you for grinding.
I applaud your dedication, if anything. So much nostalgia in this video, brought me back 20 years! And yeah i think this is all the evidence we need to prove that there is no way to defeat Zanbamon at this stage.
Thank you. Glad to receive your positive feedback. It might be possible to defeat Zanbamon by hacking the game, but I have no knowledge on how to do stuff like that. Nor do I have the necessary resources. I wanted to see if I could beat Zanbamon legitimately, and it would seem that it's not possible.
Same here man. Picked this game up back in 2003 when I was fucking 8 for god sakes. Feels like a lifetime ago but yet again doesn't feel that long ago either. Great game, yes there could've been things that were executed or implemented better but what can you do for an old game. At least it had plenty of content and an enticing enough story to keep you playing. Had plenty of time for this game as a kid and I still do now.
This video has so much 2003 feeling 😂 the white text on black background in between clips, no voice, just text, something people already tried back then in 2003 etc... So good hahaha.
I'm glad that the 2003 feeling worked in this video. 😜 A lot of my videos are like this. My video editing skills are very basic; I still use Windows Movie Maker. My knowledge and ability is very basic when it comes to technology on the whole; I still record on AV. I also encounter a lot of issues that I don't know how to solve which would be really simple for most people.
It was sophisticated of them. Although, it is a shame that there doesn't seem to be any way of defeating Zanbamon at the Jungle Grave and producing a different outcome.
I liked all the explanations and different attempt ideas. The fact that you always deal the same damage value with the trained digimon clearly demonstrates that there is a cap to the damage you can deal in this particular fight. Like you said, its super fixed XD Great video! Cool to see DW2003 content in 2023 hehe.
Thank you. And yes; there does seem to be a limit in regards to how much damage can be inflicted upon Zanbamon during the first battle against him. It's a bit like the first battle against Bulbmon; you can only bring his HP down by a fixed amount before he flees. I never bothered to do a video attempting to defeat Bulbmon during the first encounter due to it being clear that it's scripted that he can't be defeated. With Zanbamon it wasn't clear, and that's why I put this video together trying to defeat him.
I just replayed this game recently and stumbled on your videos You sir, are the maddest lad of all, and deserve the highest respect I used to think like that, wondering if it's possible to one shot/defeat Zanbamon without proper story progression, and you just prove it with hardcore dedication that no matter how hard we try, we are at the mercy of the developer
Thank you for the feedback; it's much appreciated. I am glad that I experimented with this and managed to produce the video that I produced. Although, it's a shame that the ultimate conclusion is that Zanbamon simply will not fall down.
Damn you must have been grinding your ass out for months! My highest digimon ever was Agumon in 89 and it took me about 2 years before I got there. I have grinded so many Cardmons and purple Numemons for that 222 exp, its not even funny to think about. (Started with the Monmon, Agumon and Renamon pack). A well deserved like and big thumps up from me, for your dedication :D
Thank you. Although I do feel like grinding isn't too bad if you're facing the right opponents and using the right techniques. I honestly don't recall the grinding for this video being anywhere near as bad as most people seem to assume. Thanks again for your interest and feedback. 🙂
I was half hoping it would work out in the end, but each try made it seem more and more obvious that Zanbamon's attack works as a percentual amount of damage, and there's no doubt about his hp having a lock so he always survives any attack. Regardless, your dedication is awesome.
Dude, as a child I didn't know I was supposed to lose. I remember I got Renamon to 40 and Sakuyamon to 99 and couldn't do anything. As soon as I lost I restarted the game everytime. One day I simply let go and the game continued
Sounds like you had a pretty annoying experience with your first encounter of Zanbamon. I think that my biggest mistake/regret during my first playthrough of the game was trying to enter the Amaterasu City soon after entering the Amaterasu Server and getting thrashed by Knightmon. 🤦♂
I don't think that it's as much of an achievement as it might appear to be; the grinding really wasn't as bad as I expected it to be. I don't think that I deserve the level of credit that I'm getting. None the less, your comment is appreciated and I'd like to thank you for it.
This was my favourite game as a child. Although, I feel like the first Digimon World game has aged better for me. None the less, if there ever was to be a remake for this game then I'd love to play it.
At 11:00 in, I saw what was perhaps the clearest indicator of how they fixed Zanbamon's attack. See how when you selected Final Purification, Zanbamon attacked, and then the message played out that said X Digimon ran away, and THEN your counter attack played out. That was very interesting to see. I respect the dedication to this video. That is an awful grind.
When anyone encounter a fixed fight, it would mean there's a procedure to commence that may lead either to help defeat something/someone or help you to proceed to the next step. It's seems you're not meant to defeat him regardless what you throw at it due to his purpose. Let's call it "Event Guard", it's not something you can beat or bypass him no matter what, to prevent skipping the story plot; like Oblivion/Skyrim you can do a lot of side mission (even most of them) without proceeding with the story events. Instead, there's something you need to in order to proceed, I remembered not beating him due and stayed away from him due to frustration, however, one thing led to the next I were able to pass this part without fighting him. But, I don't recall how I did it vivdly so I looked up the same website I used in my early teen. This is qouted: " You can't defeat him. After you lose the battle against him go back to the Tranquil Swamp Inn. Talk to Gatomos there. Now you need to visit the Shaman House in Tranquil Swamp. After that visit, go to Bulk Swamp and meet Kail who will tell you to seek out Baronmon. Baronmon is in Protocol Ruins and agrees to help if you find his mask. The mask was stolen by Etemon who's in Asuka City's lower part. After getting the mask speak to Baronmon again and visit him in the Shaman House. You'll get an item that will scare Zanbamon away, making the way to Suzaku free. " gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps/562323-digimon-world-3/answers/165171-how-to-defeat-zanbanmon The fact that Zanbamon claimed he never lost hinted this point. After the event, you will be able to find him in Catacomb and fight him. Hope this help. Maybe one day I'll upload these nostalgic games to my channel.
Thank you for this post. I am fully aware of how to make it past Zanbamon in the Jungle Grave; I know of the procedure that you have to follow in order to end up with the smelly herb which causes Zanbamon to flee. I'm also aware of the option that you have to challenge him to a rematch at the Catacomb, and with the battle not being fixed at the Catacomb. With the Digimon, stats and techniques that I've got in this video, I suspect that I would take Zanbamon down with a single attack if I was to fight him at the Catacomb.
Very good effort! I remember I saw a video years ago for the same excersise you were doing where someone adjusted the stats of both digimon by using some codes (i dnt know, looks he hacked the game lol) he actually managed to beat him, but and the dialog was still the same, the game registered it as he ran away and in the dialog, so no matter what happens, it's only one scenario that was programmed in the dialog
I swear on my life I got close once. Zanbamon vs my Digitamamon. It was a back and fourth with a bunch of healing. I thought I would win since he was doing 1/5th of my health every attack [idk if the code broke, or something happened but the usual 75% did not trigger] but eventually my one last attack was not strong enough. No more healing. And Zanbamon knocked me under the 25% benchmark to end the fight. It was honestly fun.
It's been many years (probably over 15 years) since I've battled those Knightmon at the Amaterasu City; my first playthrough with the game taught me to avoid them in future playthroughs! 😁
I don't remember ever considering Zanbamon to be scary. I remember the AOA Theme Music putting a shiver down my spine when I was a child; I was probably about 11 at the time.
They already set this event, zanbamon damage to 70% and set max damage taken, so its impossible to defeat zanbamon, but you've done a great effort. Appreciate that
It would seem that you are correct about Zanbamon not being beatable, and that you're also correct about the specific information surrounding the battle against Zanbamon. Too bad for anyone (such as myself) who was hoping to defeat Zanbamon at the Jungle Grave. I'd like to thank you for acknowledging my effort though; that is something that is appreciated.
Es un video muy interesante, juego de mi infancia, jamas pense en la posibilidad de intentar derrorar a Zambamon, se me hizo muy entretenido! saludos desde Chile
I had to use Google translate in order to understand this comment. Now that I know what you said, I'd like to thank you for the feedback. I'm glad that you thought positively of this video.
If I remember rightly, all attacks against Knightmon do zero damage. The battle against Zanbamon is different as you can inflict damage upon him; it just seems that his HP won't fall under a certain amount.
Good to know that there are still people trying to beat him this way cuz I did all these tricks 18 years ago when I didn't even know how to read\understand English!!! XD
That was the conclusion that I took away from this. It's kind of a shame; I was hoping that the people who made this game would not put a limit on how much damage you can deal to Zanbamon and just assume that no one would take the time to grind for long enough in order to be able to defeat Zanbamon. I was disappointed. 🙁
@@ZachWhite-ks2js I don't think that it's possible to have a Counter Crest at this stage of the game. Even if I did have a Counter Crest and dealt 1962 damage to Zanbamon and then struck him with a counter, I suspect that it would do zero damage.
@@bernarduswyattgianci7533 Trying to defeat Knightmon while I'm in an overpowered state is something that I haven't even attempted; my experience from my first playthrough of this game (which was over 15 years ago) taught me to avoid Knightmon. I don't know if it is possible before Suzaku City because its too many years since I last played this game but I remember you could get Counter Crest which will counter attack automatically. But, even if you can get it, I suspect it will not work as your damage will be reduced to small amount or even nil to avoid killing Zanbamon. Anyway, I loved the video and I think I might try playing and finishing the game again.
I think you're right about the Counter Crest likely not working. I'm glad that you loved this video and I wish you a good time with playing and finishing the game again.
You don't blast in the battle. The blast gauge will be full but you won't Digivolve. The blast gauge will remain full and in a different battle you will Digivolve when you next take damage.
Luckily when I was playing this game back in high school I was able to beat that using Greymon using its supper it change to skull Greymon I was able to beat it.
I have an idea, but some questions need to be answered first * Did the attack reduce by 75% your MAX HP or your Current HP ? * It is rounded up or down ? If Zanbamon deal 75% of your current HP, will attacking with your max strenght 1st, maybe "no taking damage" (theoricaly possible depending of the Programming of Zanbamon 1st encouter) and 2nd Round finish it If the battle is Programed and you can only Run away, can you get à Game Over ?
I think that Zanbamon's attack does 70% of your Digimon's current HP, and that the damage gets rounded down. I say this because I did a video where I battled Zanbamon with a Patamon who had just 1HP at the start of the battle. Zanbamon attacked and did 0 damage, and I then fled from the battle afterwards like normal. Here is the video of me battling Zanbamon with Patamon with just 1 HP and taking 0 damage from Zanbamon's attack: ruclips.net/video/R7rIPZfyWmQ/видео.html
I was struggling with this dude when i was a kid so decided to level up my agumon till i got blackwargraymon to lvl 99 i was farming at suzaku UG lake and north badlands for counter crest
At the very start of the game I tend to grind by simply defeating the Digimon in the Central Sector and East Sector. Once I become too tough for them I then use the fishing rod for the next phase of grinding. I begin in the Wire Forest by catching Coelamons and scoring 40EXP for each victory. Then I move onto the Kicking Forest and catch Seadramons and earn 58EXP. Then I fish at Divermon's Lake and encounter Divermons and obtain 118EXP. Usually I then use the Numemon in the Jungle Shrine for grinding; they score you 222EXP in the Asuka Server and 299EXP in the Amaterasu Server. Of course, the Numemon were not an option for grinding when I was preparing to face Zanbamon in this video; I had to rely on defeating a tremendous number of Divermons.
I am very impressed with your effort, the grinding must be really pain in the ass. By looking at your gameplay, it seems the damages always fixed at about 70% of max hp. Nice video by the way
Thank you, although the grinding wasn't as bad as you might assume. I think that the damage is fixed at about 70% of your current HP; there's a video of me challenging Zanbamon with a Patamon who had just 1HP, and Zanbamon's attack did 0 damage. The battle still ended with me automatically fleeing afterwards. Here is the video if you want to see it: ruclips.net/video/R7rIPZfyWmQ/видео.html
Are you talking about the first encounter? If so, then it seems that levelling up is irrelevant as it seems that you'll get beaten no matter what. If you're talking about the second encounter then that's different since he is beatable.
I didn't even remember the first encounter, so I guess I'm talking about the second one. to the younger version of me this one proved to be difficult @@GreenApple968
I always figured this battle was programmed to be impossible to beat regardless if you even max out your Digimon’s stats. Also I’m used to the North American version and man you guys got cool camera transitions at the beginning of battles, our version doesn’t have that! Though the menu transitions on your version is slow, there’s a hack of the game that speeds it up and I’ve been playing that recently. But your video has me interested in hacking the game now lol.
You're right about the battle being programmed so that you can't defeat Zanbamon. I don't know anything about any version other than the version that I play; I live in England and play the PS1 version. If you do try hacking the game then I wish you fun results with that.
Actually my game might have been glitched but I did managed to block the attack and kill zanbamon however the game will act as if you had ran away either way and zanbamon would still be there. There is no way to continue without the mask. (I was running it on an emulator though)
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. It's interesting how you managed to block the attack and defeat Zanbamon. The sad part is that nothing came as a result of it; you said yourself that it still registered as a loss.
You don't Blast Digivolve in this battle; the Blast Gauge fills up but you flee the fight. The Blast Gauge then remains full and you Blast Digivolve when you next take damage.
I’m amazed you just uploaded this video , I just started a new run of the game haha and I was wondering if defeating zamba was possible I was grinding musyamon tho, they give more exp than divermon
Musyamon might give you more experience, but the frequency of battles tends to not be as good. By using the fishing rod you can get into battles really quickly, usually more quickly than getting into battles by running around.
@@VictorIbelles I think that encounters might not come as swiftly for me; I'm a UK PS player. Ah yes, the Numemon at the Jungle Shrine are a great choice of Digimon to grind against; I've grinded against them many of times. Not only do you get a lot of EXP (+Bits) from beating him, but the encounter rate is very high in the Jungle Shrine.
I was like 12 years old without any English knowledge back then when I play DMW3 . But there's a DMW3 Walkthrough book translation in my country. So whenever I get stuck . I read it . ( Back then there's no internet phone ) . I remember using GameShark 1hit kill . But still can't kill zanbamon .
I'm surprised that even GameShark failed to make Zanbamon beatable; I would've thought that defeating Zanbamon would be possible with something like GameShark. Looks like my hunch was wrong.
What about a Counter Crest? You could attack it, deal damage so he's low, then he'd attack you and trigger the counter crest, which would get rid of the rest of the HP? Or maybe it does 0 damage. Worth a try tho.
I don't think that it's possible to blast in this battle. Even if your blast gauge reaches the maximum I think that you still run away and without blasting. Then, the blast gauge remains full afterwards and you blast when you next take damage. I'm sure that I remember that very thing happening when watching a speedrun for this game.
2/3 Years ago i replayed Digimon 3 with cheat and unlock level 99 Belzeemon BM and try one shot him with multiple power charge and his signature move and deals 3903 x 3 Damage and Zanbamon won't die and use his skill which makes your HP turn into 1 and battle ended
Sorry to hear of your lack of success with defeating Zanbamon. I can very much relate to the feeling; this whole video is about me being unsuccessful with defeating Zanbamon.
This game is pure nostalgia but I remember that many years ago I heard about the third egg and another playable Digimon in this game. Do you know something about it ?
I only know of two eggs; the one that enables you to call Submarimon and the one that enables you to call Digmon. I only know of eight playable Digimon; Kotemon, Renamon, Patamon, Kumamon, Guilmon, Monmon, Agumon and Veemon.
That was the equivalent of the Mew under the truck rumor. People in America mostly never got to face the championship fights and the true end of the game so there were rumors that the 2003 version had more Digimon playable created by the few people in America who played the later edition of the game.
That might work but I don't do stuff like that, nor do I know how to do stuff like that. The purpose of this video was to see if Zanbamon can be beaten legitimately, and I was unable to find a way of succeeding at this.
Are you talking about the blast gauge? I'm sure I've seen a video (speedrun) where the person got hit by Zanbamon and it filled their blast gauge to the maximum but they still ran away without blast Digivolving. Their blast gauge then remained full and they didn't blast Digivolve until taking damage from a random battle.
Yes, im talking about the Blast :) It is possible that there is a difference between the "Digimon World 3" and the "Digimon World 2003". Im 75% sure i had a second turn on him when i played Digimon World 2003. But thats a long time ago so i might be wrong about that.@@GreenApple968

Personally, I doubt that a DNA fusion attack would produce a different outcome. Also, off the top of my head I don't have much knowledge on the DNA fusions in this game. I'm not sure which Digimon you can get via DNA fusions or what Digimon are needed in order to produce the fusion. There's also the question of which DNA fusions would be possible under these restrictions due to the limitations of what Digimon you'd be able to Digivolve to. You'd also need the fusion attack to be a very powerful one if you are to do in excess of 2000 damage, which you would need to in order to defeat Zanbamon.
@@GreenApple968 yeah I don't think it will trigger a different outcome, but you know, you said you wanted ideas to try :) Speaking about having necessary digimon to do the fusions, if you managed to get such high evolution forms like Beelzemon and Omnimon, you also got other evolutions along the way, some of which most likely can be fused. A list on DNA fusions should be easy to find online. About the resulting attack power... if both digimon are much higher level compared to the enemy, I can see it dealing great damage... but who knows!
@@spacecat8748 I did check a couple of sites regarding DNA Digivolutions, as well as general Digivolutions. It looks like that there might be some good DNA Digivolutions that I will be able to produce. These DNA Digivolutions might or might not require further grinding; I can't remember off the top of my head all of the Digimon that I've already got with Kumamon and Agumon. If I still have this savefile then I will see what options are available to me. But I won't upload anything unless I'm successful with defeating Zanbamon, which I highly doubt that I will be. I also highly doubt that I will be willing to do any serious grinding in order to make certain DNA Digivolutions possible, and that's due to me having such little confidence in the idea of me being able to defeat Zanbamon with DNA fusions.
This has been suggested a number of times and my suspicion is that the counter would do zero damage if the initial attack was to do 1964 damage. Also, I don't think that I'm able to get a Counter Crest in this savefile and therefore I would have to start again in order to get a Counter Crest.
@@yonesobi If you're referring to the DNA Researcher who features at the Tyranno Valley, then you can encounter MetalGreymon and have Agumon added as your partner without needing to pass Zanbamon. The MetalGreymon is in the South Sector but an earlier part of it than where Zanbamon is.

Iirc, it is the same way as the other stats. Looking it up on google, I found. there is Garudamon's Gym in south cape for dark, and there's Togemon's gym for machine. Then later in the game you get gold and platinum IDs that let you train them in any gym. Problem with that is sometimes training those will yield negative effects like wind training lowering your defense. It is better to focus on the main stats until you get them to between 800-900 before training those unless you are trying to train them to get certain digivolutions that need certain tolerances trained. Like getting dark digimon on Agumon.
This has been discussed already. If I was to do the maximum amount of damage to Zanbamon and then strike him with a counter, the counter would do zero damage. It's been tested, though not by me.
I don't have the knowledge on how to do stuff like that. Nor do I have the resources to do stuff like that. If there are people who are able to do stuff like that then I'd be interested to see how they do against Zanbamon at the Jungle Grave.
I don't have a Counter Crest to experiment with. At the time of recording I didn't think that it would be possible to have a Counter Crest at this stage. However, it would've been possible to obtain a Counter Crest when defeating a Tamer at the South Station who has a Tuskmon. Therefore, I could've gotten myself into the position that I was in when recording this video, while also having a Counter Crest. My suspicion is that if I was to do the maximum amount of damage to Zanbamon and then strike him with a counter then it would end up doing zero damage; I don't think that the game would allow Zanbamon's HP to fall under the threshold. Much like how the game doesn't allow Bulbmon's HP to fall under a certain amount when you battle him for the first time. I don't think that I'm prepared to start a new game and do all of the grinding again (while also obtaining a Counter Crest) so that I can make another attempt to defeat Zanbamon. The reason for my lack of willingness is due to me having little confidence in the idea working.
@@GreenApple968 well yes it also drop TNT balls, and triceramon is the pre-evo form of tuskmon so yea it drops counter crest too The drop rate is really low, like 0.5-1% so back then I grinded alot to get it Ahh, talking about nostalgia, this game was really fun and is a small part of my childhood 😀
@@thangvannguen3165 I had no idea that Triceramon can drop Counter Crests; it's not something that I've ever encountered before. I loved this game as a child; it was my favourite game at one point. I think that it had years of being my favourite game.
I've not actually played Digimon World 2. I haven't played Digimon World 4 either. I've only played Digimon World 1 and Digimon World 3 but I think very highly of both games; they are two of my favourite videogames.
What about Beelzemon or Omnimon attack with a counter crest on them, they do the initial 1964 damage and then they retaliate with the counter crest
Flaw in the plan, I forgot you probably can’t get a counter crest that early in the game
@@GreenApple968 you’re right because tuskmon appears after the second leader because I used that area to train to Lvl 20 before I went to West section
His attack seems to be based on a percentage @@GreenApple968
I love this game. But i hate the random battle system its insane. 🤣
He was basically set to beat the entire game at that point without the slightest difficulty.
okay, good for you buddy
@@loganpriest6029 exactly my thoughts!
DW3 always have a special place on my heart. I remembered getting nervous each boss battle cuz I didn't even grind. Great content!
Thank you. And I think it's great that you like this game. 👍
This video has so much 2003 feeling 😂 the white text on black background in between clips, no voice, just text, something people already tried back then in 2003 etc... So good hahaha.
I'm glad that the 2003 feeling worked in this video. 😜
A lot of my videos are like this. My video editing skills are very basic; I still use Windows Movie Maker. My knowledge and ability is very basic when it comes to technology on the whole; I still record on AV. I also encounter a lot of issues that I don't know how to solve which would be really simple for most people.
@@GreenApple968 I would tell you to put the video on 16:9...but if you do that,it would no longer be a "2003 feeling video". 😂
Insane to see that they had such protection against sequence breaking in a game from 20 years ago
It was sophisticated of them. Although, it is a shame that there doesn't seem to be any way of defeating Zanbamon at the Jungle Grave and producing a different outcome.
It isnt even that bif of a sequence break, like half an hour tops if you know what you’re doing
I liked all the explanations and different attempt ideas. The fact that you always deal the same damage value with the trained digimon clearly demonstrates that there is a cap to the damage you can deal in this particular fight. Like you said, its super fixed XD
Great video!
I just replayed this game recently and stumbled on your videos
You sir, are the maddest lad of all, and deserve the highest respect
I used to think like that, wondering if it's possible to one shot/defeat Zanbamon without proper story progression, and you just prove it with hardcore dedication that no matter how hard we try, we are at the mercy of the developer
Thank you for the feedback; it's much appreciated. I am glad that I experimented with this and managed to produce the video that I produced. Although, it's a shame that the ultimate conclusion is that Zanbamon simply will not fall down.
yeah he definitely deserves respect,it took me a week to unlock beelzemon's blast gauge in ice dungeon,he was not even half way there
Damn you must have been grinding your ass out for months!
He does it again another whirlwind adventure in a Digimon game! I love how you literally manage to find something new to do in these games every time.
Thank you for the feedback; it was pleasing to hear. ☺
Damn bro, this brought me feelings of when I was a kid. How could you do this.. I’LL BE PLAYING DW1-3 AGAIN BECAUSE OF THIS LOL
Thanks for the comment. I had to butcher a lot of Divermons in order to get into the position that I was in. 😁
DW3 will forever be the best Digimon game for me(Or at least my favorite).
It was my favourite Digimon game for many years, although I feel like Digimon World 1 has aged better for me.
I was half hoping it would work out in the end, but each try made it seem more and more obvious that Zanbamon's attack works as a percentual amount of damage, and there's no doubt about his hp having a lock so he always survives any attack.
Regardless, your dedication is awesome.
It does seem that way; that Zanbamon can't be defeated. Nonetheless I'd like to thank you for complimenting me on my dedication.
The jungle graveyard ost always scared me out when i was a kid. I always mute my television when i enter this stage and catacomb. 😅
I can't say that I can relate to this. However, the AOA Theme Music did make me feel a bit frightened/uncomfortable when I was a child.
REAL! 😢😢
Great video. Congratulations on your hard try. Grinding must had been pretty difficult.
Thank you. Feedback appreciated.
Kumamon grinding to lvl 72?? Do you want to become presiden in digital world?? Thats amazing and crazy dude
I don't think that it's as much of an achievement as it might appear to be; the grinding really wasn't as bad as I expected it to be. I don't think that I deserve the level of credit that I'm getting. None the less, your comment is appreciated and I'd like to thank you for it.
That's the game scenario, i love this game, the card battle, i wish they remake this but with more storyline and harder bosses
This was my favourite game as a child. Although, I feel like the first Digimon World game has aged better for me. None the less, if there ever was to be a remake for this game then I'd love to play it.
Dmw 2 also my childhood, dmw 2003 where we battle kurt was amazing, they expand the ending
I really want a remaster of this for the ps5. One of the best Digimon games imo.
Sounds like a great idea. It would be a game that I wouldn't play anytime soon though as the most up to date console that I have is the PS3.
Really amazed with your efforts, bro! Tho we know it's a fixed mechanism, you were still eager to do it. So entertaining, thank you!
Thank you for the appreciation that you've demonstrated. I'm glad that you liked the video.
Dude this bring back memories.. when i used to play this game and i don't need any guide or walkthrough to finish it
I'm pleased that it brought back memories for you.
This is so thorough, thank you! I was just playing through the whole Smelly herb thing wondering if i could just beat him and skip it.
No problem. I'm glad that this video provided you with clarification.
Thanks for the feedback; much appreciated.
Thank you for making content on a game i LOVED (and still do) when i was a kid! DW2003 is an awesome game

Thank you for the positive feedback. Glad you liked.
This is qouted:
" You can't defeat him. " gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps/562323-digimon-world-3/answers/165171-how-to-defeat-zanbanmon
The fact that Zanbamon claimed he never lost hinted this point.
I remember I saw a video years ago for the same excersise you were doing where someone adjusted the stats of both digimon by using some codes (i dnt know, looks he hacked the game lol)
he actually managed to beat him, but and the dialog was still the same, the game registered it as he ran away and in the dialog, so no matter what happens, it's only one scenario that was programmed in the dialog
Thanks for posting. This was interesting information for me.
The size scale of some these Digimon were insane
This feels like a One Piece game when you have to face Mihawk as a boss at Baratie
I'm sorry but I'm not familiar with the things that you're talking about.
Samething with knightmon is Amaterasu city. I try to defeat them before getting all amaterasu badge but they dodge everything.
It's been many years (probably over 15 years) since I've battled those Knightmon at the Amaterasu City; my first playthrough with the game taught me to avoid them in future playthroughs! 😁
The grind is real 🤯🤯🤯. Zanbamon was scary as shit when I played this as a child, great memories ❤
Zanbamon in this segment is simply doing a filthy Frank moment for not letting you pass.
There is indeed no beating him or passing him. ☹

Thank you. Glad to hear it.
same happened whem you try to kill knightmon blocking your way to amaterasu city for the first time
If I remember rightly, all attacks against Knightmon do zero damage. The battle against Zanbamon is different as you can inflict damage upon him; it just seems that his HP won't fall under a certain amount.
I think dodge is mostly important because zanbamon have a big hp unless you have equipment for pure damage with critical
Good to know that there are still people trying to beat him this way cuz I did all these tricks 18 years ago when I didn't even know how to read\understand English!!! XD

Taking me back to memory lane, but it’s impossible to knock it out on the first time. It’s already programmed that you will run away.
That was the conclusion that I took away from this. It's kind of a shame; I was hoping that the people who made this game would not put a limit on how much damage you can deal to Zanbamon and just assume that no one would take the time to grind for long enough in order to be able to defeat Zanbamon. I was disappointed. 🙁
If you have access to counter crest it might be possible?
@@ZachWhite-ks2js nope, same with knightmon
@@ZachWhite-ks2js I don't think that it's possible to have a Counter Crest at this stage of the game. Even if I did have a Counter Crest and dealt 1962 damage to Zanbamon and then struck him with a counter, I suspect that it would do zero damage.

What if you arrive in battle with that shiny bar almost full, only to digivolve as soon as you take his hit?
You don't blast in the battle. The blast gauge will be full but you won't Digivolve. The blast gauge will remain full and in a different battle you will Digivolve when you next take damage.
Luckily when I was playing this game back in high school I was able to beat that using Greymon using its supper it change to skull Greymon I was able to beat it.
what happens if you use a gameshark code in order to deal even more damage?
No idea; I have no experiences with gameshark.
Amazing effort, hands up 🙌🙌
Thank you. Much appreciated.
Branching evolutions aside, this was a great game.
I agree.
I have an idea, but some questions need to be answered first
* Did the attack reduce by 75% your MAX HP or your Current HP ?
* It is rounded up or down ?
If Zanbamon deal 75% of your current HP, will attacking with your max strenght 1st, maybe "no taking damage" (theoricaly possible depending of the Programming of Zanbamon 1st encouter) and 2nd Round finish it
If the battle is Programed and you can only Run away, can you get à Game Over ?
I think that Zanbamon's attack does 70% of your Digimon's current HP, and that the damage gets rounded down. I say this because I did a video where I battled Zanbamon with a Patamon who had just 1HP at the start of the battle. Zanbamon attacked and did 0 damage, and I then fled from the battle afterwards like normal.
Here is the video of me battling Zanbamon with Patamon with just 1 HP and taking 0 damage from Zanbamon's attack: ruclips.net/video/R7rIPZfyWmQ/видео.html

I think it depends on what I'm dealing with; there are some things that I have no patience for. 😛
Thanks though. 😃
You deserved a like for all the efforts !
Thanks. I'm glad you think so. 👍
Here is the video if you want to see it: ruclips.net/video/R7rIPZfyWmQ/видео.html
this is the only time I actually needed to farm and level up during the game in order to beat his ass
Big thumbs up for your amazing efforts.
Thank you.
Did you try setting it up to blast digivolving after one hit because it gives you full health
You don't Blast Digivolve in this battle; the Blast Gauge fills up but you flee the fight. The Blast Gauge then remains full and you Blast Digivolve when you next take damage.
I’m amazed you just uploaded this video , I just started a new run of the game haha and I was wondering if defeating zamba was possible
I was grinding musyamon tho, they give more exp than divermon
Musyamon might give you more experience, but the frequency of battles tends to not be as good. By using the fishing rod you can get into battles really quickly, usually more quickly than getting into battles by running around.
@@GreenApple968i play in emulator so frameskip gives encounters pretty fast, already moved on from zamba so now im farming numemon
Interesting how he has the same unwinable programming as Knightmon.
Seems this way.
I suspect that it would do zero damage. Also, I don't have a Counter Crest and don't think that I am able to get one on this file.
@@GreenApple968 Doesn't it drop from a mob in Plug Cape or something? I haven't played in a while so I don't remember.
Have you tried Blast Evolution to fill up your HP back to maximum?
I don't think that it's possible to blast in this battle. Even if your blast gauge reaches the maximum I think that you still run away and without blasting. Then, the blast gauge remains full afterwards and you blast when you next take damage.
I'm sure that I remember that very thing happening when watching a speedrun for this game.
@@GreenApple968no. You simply waste the blast. You digivolve but run away anyway.
I mean, just how many days the griding and training and everything else took???
The grinding really wasn't as bad as most people would think. If I remember rightly, the in-game time was only 55 hours.
What about trying to reduce the HP to 0 with an external program like Cheat Engine?
That might work but I don't do stuff like that, nor do I know how to do stuff like that. The purpose of this video was to see if Zanbamon can be beaten legitimately, and I was unable to find a way of succeeding at this.
You get a second turn if your digimon burst after the first hit.
@@GreenApple968 I think they meant with you bursting after you attacking Zanbamon. It's years since I've played DW3 so I don't remember if the blast gauge increased only through taking damage though.

I'm not entirely sure. I think I always assumed that Zanbamon was the combination of the horse and the being on the horse. In other words, as if the two creatures are just one Digimon.
@@GreenApple968 it makes sense if they’re one and the same but it would be interesting if the horse was different (like with Calyrex from Pokémon Sword/ Shield) and their horses

@@DynastyWarriorsMod You have to make it past Zanbamon at the Jungle Grave in order to be able to battle the second leader. So this battle against Zanbamon would already be history before I can encounter Tuskmon at the Plug Cape.
Damn you grinded to that level in this early part of the game? How long did it take
I can't remember specifically but I don't think that it was as bad as you might assume. I'm very confident that it took well under 100 hours, possibly even under 50 hours.
hey there. what would happen if for this battle we bring a digimon already in 1 hp left.. will zanbamon's attack defeat our digimon or will it register 0 damage but still prompt the running away message?
This is something that I've already done, and have already done a video for. Zanbamon's attack does 0 damage but you still run away afterwards. Here is the video: ruclips.net/video/R7rIPZfyWmQ/видео.html
The video doesn't include the part where I run away, but I can promise you that that is what happened.
thanks!@@GreenApple968
Thanks for this!
No problem. 🙂
What if you blasted after taking the first hit?
I believe that if Zanbamon's attack fills your blast gauge to the maximum then you don't actually blast during the battle; you run away like normal without blasting. I think that the blast gauge then remains full and you end up blasting when next taking damage.
Suzaku Leader: "...Guess I'll die"
Pretty much. 😁 I have uploaded an Overpowered Run for this game, where for most of the game I was maxed out on stats and had the best possible techniques, Digivolutions and equipment. The Suzaku Leader got destroyed, along with many other people/Digimon that I went up against. 😄

What about a techniquw that hits 3 times for attack?
You mean something like Inferno? I used that as well as Impact Rush and Blast Mode.

@@pabloraulpereyra5981 I think that any attack that hits 3 times will do a maximum of 1962 damage.
as i remember u could've used something from a quest than makes him go away instead of all of this. not really sure
You have to challenge Zanbamon at the Jungle Grave and the battle is fixed so that you always run away after he attacks you. You then have to consult a Digimon called Sepikmon and by helping him out he returns the favour by giving you a smelly herb which causes Zanbamon to back down and walk off, enabling you to proceed.
The purpose of this video was to see if it is possible to defeat Zanbamon at the Jungle Grave if you were to do tons of grinding beforehand. I did do intense grinding and challenged Zanbamon but still couldn't beat him. This video made it clear that Zanbamon's HP can't fall under a certain amount and that you always run away after he strikes you. This is the case regardless of your stats, Digimon, items, techniques, levels, etc; it's all irrelevant.
@@GreenApple968 nice try mate
man, little me spent too much hours in this shit😅❤love the digimon world series
Other than this game, the only other Digimon World game that I've played is the first one. I think very highly of both of them.
Did you try to attack him while using a counter attack ring, that way you do 1962 damage and when he attacks you will counter dmg too
I don't think that it's possible to get any counter equipment until after this stage. Also, even if I was to do 1962 damage to Zanbamon and then strike him with a counter I suspect that it would do 0 damage; I don't think that Zanbamon's HP would fall any lower.
@@GreenApple968 i think you can drop a counter ring from tuskmon, but yeah i dont think it would make difference
@@RobertoCarlos-it8rn I know that you can encounter Tuskmon at the Central Sector, and that he can drop a Counter Crest. However, I don't think that he features at the Central Sector until some stage after you make it past Zanbamon.
@@GreenApple968 You can get Counter Crest early from Tamer Andy's Tuskmon in South Station (with charisma total of 378 or more). You can get the item from steal or dropping.
@@BSkullX Now that is very interesting, and something that I had overlooked. I am very grateful that you brought this to our attention. 👍 None the less, my suspicion is that if I was to deal 1962 damage to Zanbamon and then hit him with a counter it would do zero damage; I suspect that the battle is programmed so that Zanbamon's HP won't fall under the amount that I put it down to.
impact rush+ counter crest?
I think that 1964 is the most amount of damage that you can do to Zanbamon. Even if I was to manage to do 1964 damage to Zanbamon and then strike him with a counter, I suspect that the counter would do zero damage.
Maybe you can try using a DNA fusion attack? just in case the game or cap may behave differently with that mechanic
@@GreenApple968 yeah I don't think it will trigger a different outcome, but you know, you said you wanted ideas to try :)
Speaking about having necessary digimon to do the fusions, if you managed to get such high evolution forms like Beelzemon and Omnimon, you also got other evolutions along the way, some of which most likely can be fused.
Confuse attack can confuse bosses and leaders or not?
I think that there are some leaders/bosses who are immune to status harm and 1 hit knockouts. Or atleast immune to some of the stuff like that.
l think due to later situations in story the creators od DW2003 did it for reason to not defeat Zanbamon
I reckon so.
How about cheat evade?
I'm not sure. Sorry.
Try attack with your best attack and equip a counter acessory
This has been suggested a number of times and my suspicion is that the counter would do zero damage if the initial attack was to do 1964 damage. Also, I don't think that I'm able to get a Counter Crest in this savefile and therefore I would have to start again in order to get a Counter Crest.
How i can pass Tyranno Valley without encountering Zanbamon
The Tyranno Valley is before Zanbamon; the Tyranno Valley is in the East Sector whereas Zanbamon is in the South Sector.
@@GreenApple968 what i am gonna do if i want to get Agumon
@@yonesobi If you're referring to the DNA Researcher who features at the Tyranno Valley, then you can encounter MetalGreymon and have Agumon added as your partner without needing to pass Zanbamon. The MetalGreymon is in the South Sector but an earlier part of it than where Zanbamon is.
This video is LOVE. ❤
Glad to hear it. 🙂
Try use search crest from mamemon in dum dum factory grinding in room 1-4 for item and use tech omnimon inferno or giga fire, blast mode, omega sword, megagargomon final tech, guardian angemon. Search crest making huge critical damage at all enemy and boss
It's not possible to get to the Dum Dum Factory until after making it past Zanbamon at the Jungle Grave.
I have a question how do u increase attributes like fire, dark etc....
Training
try using counter crest?
This has been discussed already. If I was to do the maximum amount of damage to Zanbamon and then strike him with a counter, the counter would do zero damage. It's been tested, though not by me.
what about with cheats or gameshark to auto win the fight?
I don't have the knowledge on how to do stuff like that. Nor do I have the resources to do stuff like that. If there are people who are able to do stuff like that then I'd be interested to see how they do against Zanbamon at the Jungle Grave.
Does counter crest work? If it does, try using blast mode + counter? 😅
@@GreenApple968 you can also farm counter crest from triceramon in that dino valley 😃
