I think Wayne Knigjt was solid in this one and in Basic Instinct. We already knew he could do comedy but he proved his versatility by shining in drama as well.
Too bad, Bill and Chris weren't here for this episode! I rewatched Jurassic Park earlier, tonight. It still holds up. Between the T-Rex attack and the raptors chasing Alan, Ellie and the kids through the building. I laughed during that part. Then, the T-Rex saved the day.
Schindler’s List came out later but in the same year and won Spielberg his first Best Directing Oscar. Plus, I think most cinephiles unquestionably rate Schindler’s higher.
*Challenge!* More of a Rewatchable? Sure, just about anything is more rewatchable than Schindler's List. Not many movies are *better* than that one though.
Apex Mountain for Velociraptors. Very few folks knew what they were before this movie. Now we have a championship NBA franchise named after them: The Toronto Raptors.
Like other commenters have mentioned, Schindler's List came after this and was a homerun for Spielberg but I get what they are saying, Spielberg made a name for himself with Jaws and the Indy movies and this (Jurassic Park) is in the same masterpiece milieu
So no one’s going to mention the looney toons “slip” sound employed for Nedry after his Jeep got stuck? Or what about Malcom saying he has 3 kids, but in the very next movie, he only has one adopted daughter? Also, the animal sound engineering stuff was incredible. There’s a crazy story about the “dolphin scream” that was used for the raptors.
I'm positive the looney tunes sound was the tow cable rewinding into the coil. Also, Malcolm mentioned having several ex-wives so Kelly could easily have been one *of* his kids. As I remember the movie, Kelly says specifically "you like to have kids, you just don't like to spend time with them" implying that she has (half-)siblings elsewhere. He may have just been most recently married to her mother before dating Sarah.
Probably, at least on the level of Raiders or ET or Jaws, etc. I know a lot of people would say Saving Private Ryan but that movie has too many glaring story and even directing problems for me. Others might say Catch Me If You Can or Minority Report, which I think is the last time he actually tried. But everything since has been a hodgepodge of mostly misses that were only relevant because of his name. Lincoln was the only really good one but it was also safe and carried by DDL.
I read Jurassic Park when it first came out in hardback. The "how did they do it" suspense was page-turning! How did they do it? HOW? Page-turning suspense!
The guy who said the lost world doesn't hold up is an idiot. the lost world is a solid sequel. it's an enjoyable movie. I rewatch almost every time it's on tv. It's not a classic like the first but to say it's bad is just wrong. It's not bad at all.
We don’t! That’s why I can’t take the question serious at all! Even as incredible as JP was when it was released…1993 was a pretty triumph year for Spielberg, right? That same damn calendar year. The question expired immediately after it was asked.
Schindler's list came out about five months later, so no. Plus, both of his 2002 films are great, and I really liked most of War of the Worlds, Munich, and Bridge of Spies. Excited for West Side Story, too. Actually A.I. had cool aspects, too, although the amount that were legacy from Kubrick is debatable.
What aged the worst, and no mention of dinosaur feathers? Literally within a couple of years the first feathered dinosaur was found. Other than that, great podcast!
After this, spielberg made schindler's list, amistad, saving private Ryan, a.i, minority report, catch me if you can, Munich, tintin, Lincoln, bridge of spies, the post, and ready player one. And I really enjoyed Indy 4, even if it got more than its fair share of crap thrown at it. So, no, Spielberg was still cranking out great films after, and he is still is. Although his remake of West side story might be the first film of his I am not really looking forward to.
How is Bill Simmons not apart of this episode such a shame
I think Wayne Knigjt was solid in this one and in Basic Instinct. We already knew he could do comedy but he proved his versatility by shining in drama as well.
Saving Pvt Ryan, Minority Report, Munich, Lincoln, Catch Me if You Can...came after Jurassic Park.
Schindler's List too so no it was not his last great movie lol!
I love Sam Neill and think he was perfect for the role

This is not Steven Spielbergs best movie, but it is Michael Crichtons best book 👌🔥🔥
Didn't Spielberg directed Schindler's list after this?
he was doing both at same time I believe
Hector Garfria you don’t direct two movies at the same time. But I believe he was editing schindlers list whilst directing JP
@@nickm8874 He finished shooting JP before he went to make SL. He was doing post-production on JP during the filming of SL.
They came out back to back so it had to be uncomfortably close.
Francis Ford Coppola directed both The Conversation and The Godfather, Pt. II in 1974.
Victor Fleming in 1939 also made Gone With The Wind and The Wizard of Oz (left late in production but is still credited)
@@a.r.t93 He was the main director, but one of five on Gone with the Wind.
Schindler’s List came out later but in the same year and won Spielberg his first Best Directing Oscar. Plus, I think most cinephiles unquestionably rate Schindler’s higher.
no.
The second act of SL is the best thing he ever did.
Jurassic Park feels like him saying goodbye to old Spielberg.
Cinephiles don’t even know what a good movie is because they are so deep in their arbitrary standards
Im not sure how you could sound more pretentious.
keeganshigh then you don’t know much about film lol
When Fennessey reads a commercial I find my bong
Godfather II x The Conversation > Schindler’s List x Jurassic Park
*Challenge!*
More of a Rewatchable? Sure, just about anything is more rewatchable than Schindler's List. Not many movies are *better* than that one though.
2001 x Apollo 11 > Schindler’s List x Jurassic Park

sorry--wrote this before the podcast ended.

Goldblum had one of his greatest supporting roles of all time nearly a decade after this: D.H. Banes in Igby Goes Down.
I did see this in the theater opening weekend. After this I started wearing ear plugs to the theater.
For me terminator 2, a year earlier was the first good quality blockbuster cgi film
I would even go before that and say some of the CGI in the Abyss.

Saving Private Ryan
Guys, please, do The Lost World too. 🙏🏻
Tbf we didn’t know that velociraptors were a thing, in the way in which they were presented in the movie, because they weren’t ....
I read Jurassic Park when it first came out in hardback. The "how did they do it" suspense was page-turning! How did they do it? HOW? Page-turning suspense!
I think War of the Worlds is a great movie, among Spielberg’s best.
The guy who said the lost world doesn't hold up is an idiot. the lost world is a solid sequel. it's an enjoyable movie. I rewatch almost every time it's on tv. It's not a classic like the first but to say it's bad is just wrong. It's not bad at all.
So refreshing to hear a non-sports movie review without all the sports references. Take a hint guys!
So we're just gonna act like Saving Private Ryan, Catch Me If You Can and A.I. Artificial Intelligence don't exist?
We don’t! That’s why I can’t take the question serious at all! Even as incredible as JP was when it was released…1993 was a pretty triumph year for Spielberg, right? That same damn calendar year. The question expired immediately after it was asked.
I don't think Jurassic Park is Spielberg's last great film. I think Saving Private Ryan and Minority Report are better films than Jurassic Park.
The episodes without Bill Simmons are terrible.
I agree that Bill finds a nice way to structure the episodes.
He also brings a nice sense of history to the premise of the show.
I disagree on this one, this isn't a movie that needed dinosaurs to be compared to basketball players.

Catch me if you can is great
Catch me if you can please, so no and next
No. Saving Private Ryan is 10000× better and even still, Munich is his last great movie. Jurassic park is overrated as hell
JP has aged like wine. The direction of the set pieces is just far too good.
horrible take
No,no it was not if you can even call it a great movie. I think his last great one is Catch Me If You Can or you even argue Munich
Schindler's List was released after this, and that's still one of his best. I'm with you that there's an argument for Munich.
