- In his poem ‘Hum Dekhenge’, Faiz not only attacks the ultra-Islamic regime of Pakistani dictator Zia-ul-Haq but also invokes the power of the Eternal Truth and Justice. In this episode of Urdunama, The Quint’s Fabeha Syed explains the poem for you.
'Hum Dekhenge' was written as a mark of protest against the communal regime of Pakistani dictator Zia Ul Haq's government whose infamous 'Hudood Ordinances' had set limits of personal conduct. It was this Islamic fundamentalism that Faiz attacked using the very Islamic imagery in his poetry. Here is the poem explained for you.
Faiz’s iconic poem ‘Hum Dekhenge’ has always been borrowed by protesting voices across the globe. The poem calls out the oppressors of every age, ideology, and society. In this episode of Urdunama, The Quint’s Fabeha Syed explains the poem for you.

What WAS the PROMISE ???
MIS-EDUCATING ....Public
Faiz sahebs poem is hijacked by extremist Muslims today like Hitler exploited the Hindu philosophy of Aryan race and Hitler used to listen to Richard Wagner but neither of these is a endorsement of Nazism.

I am from Pakistan and I have never heard a better explanation for this poem. And I must say that every word of that explanation is correct. This poem is just about motivating people to have faith that one day this oppression will end and we will breath in free air. He wrote it against Zia rule and his oppression.
Whats use of this poem in india ???

Ignorance is a choice. A beautiful explanation of this eternal poem, Yet people only hear what they want to hear and associate every word as anti- hindu or anti- national. The time and place it was written is irrelevant because the context is what matters. But like I said ignorance is a choice.

nooooo, context is always relevant. no text can be fully understood or appreciated without its proper context, especially protest literature.

Funny isn't it..now BJP is .more scared of Fauz that any Pakistani leader...
The jihadist dictatorship is still on. Pakistan is ruled by Pakistani Army. The motto of Pak army is "Iman, taqwa, jihad fi sabilillah". So jihadists are still ruling Pakistan. And the biggest part is each and every Pakistani musalmaan is a jihadi and has proved it.
This is a beautiful explanation and loved every bit of it. I don't think faiz was an atheist or a complete believer. It is a huge statement to make that he was either one of it.
Although, Lauh-e-Azal is a Quranic metaphor, which refers to the eternal slate. Faiz using this as the opening of a hopeful poem to me suggests he did believe in God and he was hopeful.
The second stanza that creates an imagery of cotton mountains, the shaking earth and lightening is same as the imagery told in Quran about the day of judgement.
The third stanza in which faiz talks about emptying the Ka'aba and taking out the idols is an imagery of Muhammad (pbuh), who took the idols out after Fat'h-e-Makkah. Also, Mardood Haram means people who are barred out of sacred places. Which refers to the time when Muhammad (pbuh) was forced out of Makkah.
Last stanza: 'Bus naam rahega Allah ka' Faiz says that only God will remain and all the other powers will be thrown.
Furthermore, Faiz memorised 4 Parahs of Quran and in a interview he mentioned that he regret not memorising the whole Quran.
I'm not making a statement that Faiz was a believer. These are just some details to hold an opinion.
Amazing ideas of faiz. Also love the way u go about it. Please keep making such videos decoding urdu lit. Otherwise it's difficult to understand for commoners. Thanks alot

Indians and India never get tired using whether is Pakistan name or its poet/artist. Dilemma for India lol.
Exactly! They also try to separate Islam from all Urdu poetry, when in fact these poems are inspired by Islamic ideologies
Beautifully recited in tarannum and also explained well, but you actually *didn't explain correctly* the supposedly "controversial" line.
जब अर्ज़-ए-ख़ुदा के काबे से
From the kaaba on God's earth.
सब बुत उठवाए जाएँगे
All idols shall be taken out--this actually refers to the iconic moment when the idols of kaaba were taken out and mecca was liberated by Muhammed (in some 680 BC) and this marks the end of the "jahiliyyah" according to Islamic history. This was done because before this the kaaba was taken over by pagan Arab tribes and made into a shrine to local deities. All this marks the end of an oppressive regime.
The reason an atheist Faiz has to use religious symbolism because remember this song was written to oppose the fascist Islamist Zia-ul-haq government. So he was reclaiming Islam for the common people. So this is in reference to Islamic historical events and has nothing to with Hindusim. I am saddened to see that none of such erudite (even muslim) intellectuals mentioning this anywhere.
Right
Lol, if a person follows socialist ideology, doesnt mean he is athiest. Lol, you Indian love to change facts to our own narratives and try to own everything as per your desires even if its pure Pakistani or Islamic. You love to justify and upend it to your needs. He was politically inclined towards socialist ideology which many in Pakistan even Bhutto n Peoples party adhere to doesn't mean they all are athiest religiously.
I will explain it for u
Hindi keyboard nahi hai to samajh jao
Sab but uthbaye jayenge
Ka matlab hai ki
Jab power ke dum par Jo log apne
ap ko desh ke Malik samajhte hai unko putlo ki tarah utha Diya jayega
"Arj-e - Khuda k kaabe se " Dharti k Khuda k ghar se. JO REAL khuda hai wo Arj o Samawat ka malik hai.Yeha sirf Arj-e Khuda ki baat hai means jo sirf Dharti ka khuda .Sirf dharti ka khuda kon hoga obviously not true god.Jo real Kaaba hai use Baitullah ( Allah ka ghar ) bhi kaha jata hai.Yeha arj-e khuda k kaabe ki baat kahi ja rahi hai means jo self stated / falls god /khuda /Haqim hai iske ghar ki zikr hai.But uthaye jayenge ..falls law / falls concept uthaye jayenge.
"He was reclaiming Islam" - EXACTLY, bro. I have tried to explain this to others. Because in literature (and other art forms) reclamation and subversion are frequently used methods of resistance and reinteroretation. Reclamation and subversion are techniques used by several African-American writers too. You subvert the ideology of the oppressor, or reclaim your identity from the oppressor - and this is through allusions, allegoroes, imagery, metaphors... This is such a wonderfully crafted piece of poetry. Wish people would have the patience to read it and recognise the literary excellence
What a great poetry....

@rational tv you're immature.
During the times of prophet Muhammed, the kuffar not just insulted him, almost choked him to death while he started spreading his message. He used to get wounded. Blood spilled all over his clothes. But later when he won makka, that day when the whole of kuffar was in fear or even were sure that the way they abused and harassed Prophet, he would give them capital punishment. And he said *it's the day of mercy, I FORGIVE YOU ALL.
And also later when he continued to be in power, there were blasphemy cases and he used to forgive them and instead would show how generous he was.
I'd suggest you to learn about him, by any non Muslim author only, if you're comfortable with them. Peace ✌️

Yet this is the favourite song of liberals 🤡
Faiz who wrote the poem didn't just write the poem for muslims. It was also for other minorities in Pakistan who were being tortured by General Zia-ul haq.
As faiz being muslims used Allah as a symbol not just for muslims it's for all those who use it for protest. This poem has nothing to do with Islam, I personally disagree with the song. Its revolutionary song used against Dictators like Modi.
You are blinded with hatred that you dont see the truth.
There is no only God of Islam, Christians, jews and Muslims follow same God, for us God is someone we have never see yet we believe he is there , we muslims do not associate characteristics with God
Allah for Arab Christians mean Christian God. Faiz Ahmed Faiz was not religious yet he used religion for protests against tyrants

Google "Hum Dekhenge Lyrics Meaning In English/Translation".
Irrespective of the language in which these lines are sung - be it its Urdu original or in its Tamil, Malayalam or Kannada translated versions - its meaning is one that resonates with the spirit of rebellion.
Theatre person A Mangai who worked on the Tamil version tells TNM that when she began working on the translation, the strangeness of the situation was more apparent.
“It is strange that a protest song in Pakistan in Zia’s regime, when it was declared an Islamic State, feels relevant today. The way protest songs travel across the border is ironic,” she explains. Pakistani Ghazal singer Iqbal Bano had sung this poem when there was a ban imposed on Faiz’s poems by General Zia-ul-Haq.
“Tamil Nadu has a very unique history of nationalism, always at loggerheads with the Centre on Hindi imposition. When we started translating 'Hum Dekhenge', we could see a lot of echoes of this tradition (in poetry) in history,” she continues, referring to Vallalar’s Thiruvarutpa, a compilation of his teaching on universal love and peace, and Bharathi’s poems. “There is that tradition that runs across borders and what we have done is to just invoke it and make it relevant,” she adds.

One big difference in the case of vande maatram an individual is refusing to say it but not stoping others to say it while in case of hum dekhain gay an individual is being stoped from singing it
@@khizerliam9776 abey ye kaisa reply dia hai bhai ?😀
@@vishushams meaning of vande matram is we bow to mother earth. And muslims cannot bow down to anyone apart from Allah thats simple
After watching what happened with Afghanistan people by Taliban
Even I thought kon kiska dekhega 😎
Mam it was written in Pakistan which was made against dictatorship of Pakistani Army
Thank you @the Quint you cleared all my doubts. Now please tell me what raliv galiv ya chaliv means ?
Beautiful nazm...Beautifully explained! THANK YOU!
In Arabic :-- अना = मैं ; अल = the ; हक = अधिकार , Right , on rightous path , सत्य मार्ग पर ।
Beautiful!❤️
True indians nowadays in same situation against the injustice of the govt and their idiotic bhakts :(
Waah bete jo bhakti krta hai wo bhakt hi hota hai
Kaabe se but hataye jayenge.Chalo Faiz ne ye Pakistan mein gaa diya.Koi baat nahi.Par fir ye sab jo secular bante hain use Bharat mein kyo gaa rahe hain
Kyu bhai political freedom ka kya hua? Bada randi rona karte ho tum iss baat ka.
Loved your explanation of this poem overall however I wanted to clarify as someone who has read the Quran that the analogy to mountains flying away like wool is drawn from Surah Al Qariah. You repeatedly say that there is no religious context to it but I believe there is one and it’s beautifully portrayed.
Mrs Fabeha Sayed...ur voice is so beautiful...Best podcast..
Treat to ears
How smoothly you explain those who don't know about eternal truth and ideology of legends against some stupids.love from 🇵🇰🇵🇰
Such a beautiful poem just bc Faiz was muslim he mentioned Allah in it so when it is recited today it's anti-hindu
NO
IT'S ANTI-OPPRESION
ANTI-FASCIST
ANTI- BJP
Very beautifully sung and explained too!! Love you 🙏
Who is here after Kashmir Files❤️✌️
In literature i went through a literature of ten blinds explaing size of elephant.Thouse who come across the size of organ of elephant was telling the people that elephant is like this.God is eternal truth. He is not green saffron white or blue. But is a blending of all seven colours of sun ray.
MashaAllah ❤️....well clarified

Amazing words & great meaningful.
God Bless.
The two lines of the poem is anto hindu no matter what you say. It targets idol worshippers,
But now nothing will matter as the catalyst for ww3 is ignited. Us vs Iran.
Better pray for everything to mother earth, coz this is it now.
Bro we have same profile pic
Read the full poem.
It says the false idols in kaaba will be destroyed.Tell
Me do we have hindu idols over there ?
USA doesn't exit,no matter what you say...
Music is so good..👍
Very well explained ! Thanks ! I hope more people see this.
I understand that this poem isn't anti-Hindu. But why this poem? I mean you guys are protesting against the government. People call you anti-national or Pakistani. Then why choose a poem by a Pakistani? There are many poets in India who wrote similar poems. We even have similar poems & songs by Tagore who won Nobel Prize. Forget Tagore...there are millions of talented poets in India. You could've easily used that. Why this poem?
According to bhakts it's anti Hindu song
Can you tell me why muslim hate Vande mataram poem...?..it is same like Faiz poem.....I'm 100% sure you can't
@@redarmy353 they have no explanation
@@redarmy353 wande mataram means i bow my head down to my mother land. And in islam you bow down your head only for the one and only god!. Its why we dont sing wande mataram!. Thats it!
@@saf1pm if you think like this then Faiz poem is same ....when Hindues hear it.....even it's not only anti hindu poem....it's a anti national song...you all are lucky that india is secular country
@@redarmy353 do you really think India is still a secular country 😂 ! I am a hindu and I am proud to sing both the songs 'hum dekhenge' and 'vande mataram' , because these songs have amazing meaning and they talk about eternal truth and I am a human first. And I see a person as a human only not as muslim, hindu or anything else. Youth is against the communal hatred because our elders taught us about unity in diversity but they only have forgot about it.
Anal Haq is the Highest Truth which Rishis of Vedas said as - Aham Brahm Asmi
It is Haraam in Abrahamic Religions
But even Jesus said - Me and My Father are one
This is the same as saying - i am Truth
Actually Faiz wanted RamRajya
Come for the explanation, stay for the voice ❤
does anyone listen faiz's intesab go and listen....
you will cry after listening that Nazm
