I have had an alpaka sling pro for over 5 years now and not one stitch has come loose. Still looks brand new. This brand is awesome. I'm a fan. The bag will probably last a lifetime. If you're looking for the best quality EDC sling bag this is it. I would buy now before the prices go higher with inflation, and also with the quality their products have, their brand popularity should skyrocket.
I’ve been watching a number of alpaka bravo sling reviews, and yours was hands down the best. 1) I finally understand alpacas different collections/lines! And 2) just really enjoyed your way of explaining what you liked and what could be improved upon. Thank you!
Thanks for the super useful post, totally dig the zipper dampening - I gave mine a quick shake when it arrived and thought I would sound like a Morris Dancer carrying that around so I'll defintely be doing your tip for a cord pull :)
..Jess, first time watching your videos stumbled upon while searching for sling bags . I know this is an older video. but...First of all you're gorgeous, articulate, intelligent, athletic and a creative creator. That being said, I love good bags and I love traveling. Thanks for introducing me to these line of bags and your constructive cons you mentioned. I ended up getting the Alpaca bigger bag for MacBook Air and smaller bag for smaller daily EDC. got the mini Carabeens. I used your code because it's my virtual way of saying I appreciate you and wish you blessings.... hope to watch of your cool videos.
@@GadgetsGearCoffee More for Long distance Travel, from the Alpaca site, I got the Bravo Sling Max V2 in Black Limited Edition. I wanted to try some alternative to the traditional backpack can get top heavy and isn't sling friendly. For EDC and smaller Footprint , I saw a good deal on Amazon for the smaller Go Sling that Fits a iPad Pro 11. I hope I like them and don't have to return either. I really do like the Key hub Idea, I am constantly looking for loose items like keys, IDSs, Mini Flashlights so it's a novel idea. I have to analyze it a bit more to pull the trigger on the hub though
Thanks for the review, Jess. I liked how you were really thorough in walking through your experiences with every part of the bag. It helped me choose to purchase this bag for everyday use. For the strap problem you mentioned @ 7:05, I just took off the elastic strap and used a needle and thread to stitch the band smaller by about 1cm from the factory stitch line. This only took about 5 minutes and now the strap doesn't flop around when I fling my sling back and forth. Hope this helps anyone else with this bag.
appreciate the comment :) if you buy the bag, consider the affiliate links (no cost to you) to support the channel and more importantly, come back and share your experience with the bag!
In Mexico City they won't slice your bag, they will slice you. 😂😂😂 They usually want the whole bag or just a phone or wallet so It's either pickpocket or knife/gunpoint theft. My beautiful monster of a city, Love it/hate it but love it more. I really liked your review, I want a big sling instead of a small backpack for simplicity of use in the subway and commutes that require constant access to my stuff and this gave me great insight if this could be that sling, it definitely grew on me after your review. Like your style and vibe. Thanks.
Well I didn't get sliced thankfully, and I took the metro with my luggage in Mexico city to downtown on a Saturday evening 10-11pm... that was definitely dodgy and even the Mexican male tour guide the next day told me he wouldn't even do that 😅definitely not doing that again. Just used this in Nicaragua and it was fine too, though Nicaragua I felt safe for the most part, minus the machismo and cat calling.
@@GadgetsGearCoffee yeah definitely not the safest move at that hour but I'm glad everything went fine. This city is a magical powerful dangerous monster, you have to pay attention always, luckily I've only had a couple bad experiences in my whole life in here. Hopefully one day I'll get to Nicaragua with my brand new Bravo Sling, perhaps the Max edition. Peace!
@@laeonflux I saw someone made a purchase today with my link, if that's you, thank you :) and please do come back and share your experience on the sling. I have another Apalka product I'm currently testing in the works.
Great review! Just ordered one. I'm really exited for this to arrive so i can use it for school. Love how you pointed out everything in the bag to consider. Will mod the zipper to be quiet and the usb-c passthrough so it wont detatch too often
Did the discount code work? I'm working with apalka to get that fixed so it's linked to the affiliate directly. Do come back and share your experience!
Hiiiiii. I think the handle is also for suit cases. Handles tend to be higher up but that type of strap ive seen used on back packs too so you can slide it onto your roller suitcase’s handle.
interesting observation! I haven't tested that out, that would certainly be interesting, though that's more valuable on a backpack than a sling, they didn't mention that's what it could be used for but if it can, even better!
I wish they'd make the default version with the orange liner. I only found some sold-out limited editions that used this inner color. And they really need to clean up their naming system and how the different product lines are organized.
I agree. I have all that info in my video and I'm not part of their team so it's not my problem to fix 🤷♀️ but I hope they watch it and factor that in.
if you're using this for running this isn't going to be the right product but the supporting strap will help keep things close to the body. But for EDC purposes, a sling is now my go-to and in fact, a few other slings are in the works so stay tuned 👀
Hey Jess! I like the name change of the channel. 6L is a great daypack size for travel. I really like these travel bags made in that theft resistant material, even better if the strap has thick gauge metal wires that make the strap resistant as well. I forget what the strap “lock” system is called on other bags like Wotancraft, but having it means the strap doesn’t wander. Id suggest a Heroclip carabiner on the strap. How’s the interior storage organization? Wish this bag had straps on the bottom to allow for carrying a folded jacket or a blanket or a tripod. Suggest that they anodize those little metal rings, that should solve the color rubbing off. Anyways, morning and great vid!
hey Jeff, I like the storage and covered an entire section on it, did you miss it or perhaps I misunderstood your comment, hopefully Apalka considers some of the things I mentioned, if they fix it up, it would be quite ultimate of an EDC sling, it's already good as is even for someone as picky as me, but it can be even better and really put up a fight against the big ones
never heard of Wotancraft until now, good share! I just took a look at their sling, they have a good strap management system as well. I took a look at all the regular competitors of popular gear too and they all had (Aer, Peak, Bellroy)
I got a few of the smaller alpaka pouch/slings I like em. But for the bigger 6l and 10l slings I got belroys, I like the strap setup on belroys venture slings. They lack the sleeves and org for tech carry, but function more as just large dumps. Feel good on body.
I have use crossbody bag for quite a long time, anything from messanger bag, maxpedition and I found that I can’t really carry heavy stuff for a long time. My shoulders gets very sore… maybe it’s my age..
ya there is a downside for sure to one side carry, I did use another bag I'm testing, another sling for a music festival this weekend and I felt it getting a little tired on one side and I didn't have anything that heavy but the convenience is too much a positive to easily grab stuff out of my bag whenever I want
I'm smaller in weight and size and it looked like a little backpack on me in terms of size so with that size (though I don't know your frame or shape) I think it'll look great!
Hey, thanks for the review, I just bought this bag for travel, for work and for riding on my Can Am trike. I plan on using it around the waist for the bike, have you tried it as a waist pack?
AER looks great as well, different designs and style, most notably the Apalka I feature has the anti-theft options and comfortable back padding. Depends what kind of opening you like as well as both slings are different. I'd love to get my hands on the AER though
I'm waiting on Apalka to fix that, they're rather slow... in the mean time you can use the affiliate link which helps the channel and I think if you join the newsletter I believe you get a discount
@@GadgetsGearCoffee I think that your last comment may have had a name that suits youtube a bit more: GadgetsGearCoffee or something similar. RIght now yhour username kinda gives me vibes of a commenter more than a maker, if that makes any sense at all.
that's a tough one to answer and I don't have the Peak 6L though I've certainly looked at it and love the little straps, would have had many uses for that and also I would just sling items over the strap on my Apalka just fine. Depends on your use, for camera for sure. It doesn't have the anti-theft features and the secret back pocket that I love on my Apalka (feels safer to have my wallet and phone there). But the rest of the Peak everyday 6L to be honest is definitely 👌
I have the same sling for 1y and a half and I would wish they remove the phone plasticky thingy completely. Honestly, if I’m charging the phone I am charing it and I will have it inside the sling, if I need to use it I just turn the sling in front open and close it just so the cable goes through in between the zips pullers, don’t have multiple sims but I would not like to expose them to any thieves outside tbh. I am also about to make silent the zipper as well, probably that together with the plastic thing is what annoyed me the most. The last one I would have slightly changed is that as the sling has a ‘wedge’ shape I would had add a bit more width at the bottom (half an inch) as the wedge shape forces everything more voluminous to be on the top
I think the wedge shape is a plus actually so I don't have to search for things at the bottom of the sling because things tend to go down due to well.. gravity
@@GadgetsGearCoffee yeah agreed, would keep the shape just adding, proportionally, a bit more width at the bottom, not much more from the current design.
It's too big for a sling and EDC for me. And i find that anti theft for the buckle useless if the strap itself is not cut proof. If you want better anti theft, stick with Pacsafe.
