Elite Guide | Full System Spectrum Scanner FSS | Finding planets, signal sources, mission targets

This is essential for Elite Dangerous. You need this to find planets, signal sources for HGEs, missions, etc. The FSS comes as standard on all ships, the same as the discovery scanner (honker).
Fly away from the star, D-Scan (honk), launch the FSS, then scan your planetary bodies.
Default keybind to launch the FSS: '
For planets/moons its best finding the gas giants first as they normally orbit these. But you may just wish to seek out high value planets, such as Earth Like or Water Worlds.
