love this guide! some guides are simply high level and dont show how to do some of the small things like this. thanks for the help and will be using more of your vids
I gained 6ly on my Jumpaconda build, now its 85LY, i'm sure I can get 90................. lol TY commander, nice to see a new CC for this old gem (been cruising since the Frontier days)
Great guide, I'll be following it myself, but if you're reading this please grab ~10 more mats than you need for engineering. There's nothing worse than that last modification not quite completing, then you have to grab more stuff all over again. So much quicker to have grabbed just a few more when you initially grind for them.
Double engineered grade A SCO of any size is available at human tech traders for thargoid parts that can be obtained with at least 1 causitic sink, and 1 caustic cargo rack from the titan wreck clouds so long as they're around. Get some limpets, a cargo rack or two, and some sinks and you can spend as long as the sinks last gathering the thargoid parts at no risk. Also can get a really nice double engineered surface scanner from the human tech traders too for fairly cheap if you have the normal engineering materials for it.
I really like the "Ugh, a relog". Part of why I like your channel is in sharing in my values. I don't want to simply do the meta highiest-yield-per-minute stuff. I want to still be playing around. But it's also seems to be true that gathering materials is a bit unreliable in the natural course of gameplay. I would like to hear more about that experimental effect recommendation being divided on what class it is? Is that always going to be the case? I'm specifically thinking about the small Diamonback Explorer with its Class 5 FSD, which doesn't seem like it needs help on Optimal Mass values, and sure has good fuel available.
I’m not all that knowledgeable about optimal mass and such, but It’s just an old Elite adage I’ve found to work. For whatever reason, in coriolis, edsy or in-game, it always gets you the better range - size 5 and up is mass manager, size 4 and below is deep charge. Some go mass manager for lower than 5 as it is better for fuel consumption, for only slightly lower range. Each to their own! 🫡
I find that if you do a mix of combat and mining and always keep a few collector limpets handy, it covers 90% of your materials for G2-3 engineering plus experimentals. Then there are just a couple that I need to farm, like configurable components because apparently I don't hijack enough freighters. I get nauseous in the SRV and actively avoid any part of the game dependent on it.
I forgot you don't need to fill each level of engineering for the module to unlock the next level. Burned most of my mats on the first two levels. I've just come back to the game after about 4 years off and I forgot about this. What a nub. Thanks for the video, Dituri. It will be a big help to claw my way back.
One nice thing is they *just* boosted manufactured material drops. So a couple stops by a few systems at war, outbreak, etc, and you'll be good to go for a number of builds via trading. Encoded are still a little grindy.
For those watching now, one of my favourite ways of gathering raw materials is to find a planet with brain trees on them (I have one bookmarked but idr the names). You can drop your SRV, drive between brain trees and shoot the polyporous nodules off the trees, which drop a mix of high and low grade raw materials which you can trade at a material broker. Very quick, I just brain afk chatting with my friends or listening to an audiobook while I gather and you fill your stores in no time
I had an old shipping 'Conda with Level 3 engineered FSD, and if I replaced it with a fully engineered SCO version instead, I'd get around 7LY more range for shipping, amazing. This is like coming back to your old car and getting a new turbo so you can make it faster than ever.
Hello, im new to this game and i noticed that you only had beginners for piracy and mining. I would love to see more variety such as bounty hunting, or missions. Thanks! (Also, i really love your channel, and i thank you for being updated)
You’re making great content. Thanks for the dedicated effort this takes. I’ve played off and on for several years and get drawn back into Elite with content like yours. I’ll add a suggestion for collecting with limpets. If you want the collector to gather any and multiple materials don’t select a specific material then launch limpet. If you do want a specific material then select it and launch limpet. Took me a while to realise this and keen to share if that tip was useful
Jameson crash site is still the best for encoded. It takes a really long time to max everything out but it's a one time thing. Once you're maxed it lasts for years. Plus it's easy to top off everything by doing it.
I am a massive fan of your work; keep it up! Also, can you make a video talking about combat in detail? I really can't decide which ship or weapons to use and engineer because of the massive controversy regarding which ship is best for which. I don't want to invest in the wrong ship and end up wasting resources and time.
Great Video as always. The Crashed Anaconda in Orrere is in the bubble and not too far from the jump in star. It is possibly quicker to cross trade from Jameson Crash site but I too have done Distribution Centres just for the change. If you are going to use limpets for Mech, farming Dav's Hope with limpets is quite viable... although limpets while in combat, you don't have to worry about anything, just let them do their thing.
Solid advice. The Orrere conda has some truly annoying terrain, it’s a small thing but that’s why I go Koli Disci. Jameson site is… yeah. Quick, but tbh I’ll take any vaguely working method instead 😅
In my experience, I have found Deep Charge to be a wasted experimental effect throughout the classes - it provides usually just half a better lightyear of maximum jump range however it drastically cuts total jump range on a single fuel tank, typically between 4 - 10ly, sometimes this can be the difference between reaching a station or next scoopable star. Mass manager is the better overall experimental, regardless of class and covers a wider range of activities. Deep charge is only beneficial in very few situations, where you might be wishing to have a max range in a single jump only and there are very few ships in the game that can take advantage of this. I just theory crafted a hauler taxi - no optional internals, everything as engineered as light as possible, 2A FSD (regular for this example). With deep charge, it has a 60.58ly max jump range, with a total range of 239.17 Mass manager on the other hand has a max range of 60.33ly (so it loses only 0.25ly range) and a total range of 264.28ly, that's 25.11ly difference on total range. The deep charge wisdom was misunderstood and doesn't actually provide any good benefit.
Personally my favourite method for getting raw materials is going to a planets with high grade crystal shards. It avoids having to relog, has you drive around on a log g planet and it is a decently fast way to gather mats. While farming shards is not as quick as it used to be I prefer it to the other methods
True. It’s a bit far out for me to recommend for ‘all players’, but it’s definitely my preferred method. I like to bring a flak cannons as well, so you can blow the crystals up in your ship, then scoop in your SRV. Particularly fun and efficient with a friend - one flaks, the other scoops. Had one of my most fun and effective sessions ever raw farming like that 😅🫡
@@DiturisElite I'm going to start gathering raw materials soon and I read about this method too which I'm going to try, but with one change, bringing collector limpets instead of the SRV. The limpets can get stuck and get destroyed on the brain trees, but apparently if you travel 5-600 meters away the brain trees disappear and the limpets will collect all the resources. I'm definitely going to try this to see how it goes!
It should be noted that the RNG has been removed from engineering entirely in recent-ish updates. As such they are now far more definite, and you won't end up with the situation described at 8:19.
Pre-engineered SCO FSDs with Increased Range + Fast Boot were introduced as a Community Goal reward when Titan Cocico went vulnerable. Maybe these will become available at tech brokers?
I recall the pre-engineered 6A Brewer FSD is still marginally better, but has no SCO boost. Not obtainable atm tho, for anyone who doesn't have it, your way is the best! :)
I found your laser-mining video, and it did everything I could have asked for. Informative and answering of questions, without adding superfluous faff. Loved it. And then I went and checked the channel itself. Sounded lovely. Watched a few others that I really had use for(and passed on a few I didn't), and I was happy. And then I checked the videos page. "A video every week or so". And it was wonderful....up to two months ago and then there was a HARD stop. So...what happened? Did you lose interest? I hope not, I was hoping there would be more useful and informative stuff without all the extraneous, because that's what I think there's use and need for. Something that gives facts and information, hints and tips, without all the hyped "HI GUYS IN THIS WEEKS VIDEO WE'RE GOING TO WATCH ME DO SOMETHING TO GET VIEWS AND BECOME A RUclips SENSATION!" rot.
Oh? I wasn’t aware they’d changed, I’ve been away from my desk for a while. Having looked it up, I can’t find anything about changed material costs. Could you talk me through what you mean, if you don’t mind? 🙃🫡
It is the best FSD but still lot of work to do to get the best possible jump range :) (guardian booster, D rating the other stuff and lightweight engineering of some other stuff). The g-booster and D-rating is essential so you can still have srv on 70ly DBX without much of the anoying grind.
o7 i used mass manager always no matter of the size... deep charge was always there? or that is something new? need to play with calculator. never considered other options
Made it to the Khun system, traveled from the Nguri (cheranovksy city), got the three Soontil relics in ship cargo. On Khun 5, but ONLY see : the Rojas Horticultural Facility, the Korolanko Botanical Hub and the Belshaw Botanical Garden. I see NO Long Sight Base from space, from flying over the planet around (-32.2, -105ish), did surface scans, did system scan. Is there something I'm missing...?
Your reply is the issue here. You need to hear of Elvira even to see her base. For that you’ll need to travel at least 300ly from the start system. This can be annoying, but you’ll use Elvira for so many upgrades down the line 🫡
the fsd booster will work with any drive for frame shift wether it being sirius (old) or the sco new variant. the new drives just have a higher mass optium and multiplier with the overcharge. good luck hope it helped.
@@Cmdr_Amethyst a size 5 is a 10 ly or a lil close to it in boost for the guardian equipment. It is also a 1 unlock for all sizes same for the distributor and power plants sometimes even those are useful until you can engineer something.
The experimental effect wich one one should i use deep charge? My anaconda goes 46 ly years on grade 5 so why the f... is it not 90 ly like on the video? Explain me.
Well, thanks for this guide on how to buy and engineer an fsd in a very nicely edited and presented way, but... At the beginning at 0:24 you state best fsd (console) with 78 yrs for a Krait Mk II and - if I am not mistaken - somewhere (thumbnail?) I read 90 lyrs for "the new best fsd", so where - at the end after finishing everything - is your proof for that? I mean, not that I am secondguessing it, but imho that would have made sense, wouldn't it? ^^ Or did I miss something?
@@cmdrdonaldduck8940 dunno what those systems have to do with anything. However, if you follow the steps in the video it’ll get you the best fsd available in the game. There are other ways to increase your jump range however, like decreasing the overall mass of whatever ship you’re flying, and acquiring a guardian frame shift drive booster. There are plenty of videos out there that walk you through step by step on how to unlock the guardian fsd booster and if you want to maximize your jump range I’d recommend looking those up after you’ve engineered your frame shift drive.
Does "best FSD drive ingame" include experimentals you could get as rewards for the community events? I have one with two experimental effects, that was at the time THE longest range drive.
Ok, I'm really confuse. This video is two weeks old, so not old at all. My Martuuk shows she's between level 2 and level 3, so I cannot make level three upgrades. She has no 'donate' options, and it only says, 'Buy modifications to unlock next grade'. That implies I just need to upgrade ships whether I want to or not... Help please
Just try to engineer a clean new FSD from zero. Then the next levels will become available for you. Once you'll reach level 5 you'll be able to process the actual module. Hope that will help you.🫡
So, do the SCO drives have a higher jump-range than non-SCO drives? As a returning player, should I consider replacing ALL my FSDs with SCO models or, if the actual jump-range is the same, is the smart move just to fit SCO drives to ships such as cargo haulers, mining ships and mat-gatherers - where it's useful to be able to move around within a system quickly?
Yep, the jump range is (a little) better on SCO drives than non-SCO, so there’s basically no reason to not have it these days. It’s super handy on haulers and miners for in-system travel, but it’s also great on explorers for both the increased range and high-speed supercruise 🫡
@@DiturisElite Great, thanks. With 30-odd ships in my fleet I guess I'm going to be spending some time with Auntie Felicity. Definitely be doing my mat-gathering AspX first, though, for chasing HGEs.
Nope, you don’t need odyssey, especially not to get the invite from Elvira. Maybe you missed the message somehow? Check engineers button in right-hand panel. If you still don’t see ‘invited’ checked, you didn’t get far enough from the starting system, which is Matet for most CMDRs. As long as you get 300ly+ away from there, it should work 🫡
I cant find the SCO drive on console. I have access to jameson memorial. Not in the anaconda. Pre engineered version is the best i can get at a max of 87.32
When you're at the engineer, also make sure to pin the increased range blueprint, so you can use it elsewhere later.
You should try these system's in the Galaxy map search bar and fly to them. 07 🫡

I heard that if It's size 5 or bigger, go for Mass Manager. Below 5 go for Deep Charge.
Apparently with SCO the values are biased towards Mass Manager always?
Have yet to engineer a drive (or buy SCO) yet though...

You made this so easy that even I can do this!!! Welcome back!!
One nice thing is they *just* boosted manufactured material drops. So a couple stops by a few systems at war, outbreak, etc, and you'll be good to go for a number of builds via trading. Encoded are still a little grindy.
Very well laid out guide. Great video man.
Very quick, I just brain afk chatting with my friends or listening to an audiobook while I gather and you fill your stores in no time
Надо бы заняться, давно хочу
5:22 You can get the 6 cargo out the cargo rack if you have the maverick suit and use the tool to open them up.
I had an old shipping 'Conda with Level 3 engineered FSD, and if I replaced it with a fully engineered SCO version instead, I'd get around 7LY more range for shipping, amazing. This is like coming back to your old car and getting a new turbo so you can make it faster than ever.
Glad i stayed up late for this! Have been waiting a while for this one! Met you on reddit once or twice.
Thanks for the guide. I'm going to do this on my explorer ship soon. Its nice to see a recent guide.
Dituri knows I like it huge. My jump range, that is.
Thanks for the amazing guide!! You have gained a new subscriber!
This is a very well thought out and clearly delivered tutorial.
Cheers (subscribed)

Still works nov 2024.. thank god with the better drops with mats these days, grind is now bearable.. my mandalay started from 32ly to 47ly min
Plus it's easy to top off everything by doing it.
your vids are really awesome man. best ED guides ive seen. maybe a new one soon here with ascendancy?! :D
Thanks mate! Literally put out a community post a few hours ago on it 😂 yep, I’m back making stuff 🫡
Excellent video, as always. Beautifully edited, informative, and entertaining. Thank you for all your hard work Commander.
Great video for the new Cmdr. Keep it up!

99.38ly Mandalay with the CG pre-engineered SCO with Mass Manager ;)
With the recent update to engineering material gathering, the crash sites can have 100s of mats before needing an instance reset.
Bless You and Thank you.
I am a massive fan of your work; keep it up! Also, can you make a video talking about combat in detail? I really can't decide which ship or weapons to use and engineer because of the massive controversy regarding which ship is best for which. I don't want to invest in the wrong ship and end up wasting resources and time.
Thanks mate! I’ve done a video on weapons already, but combat ships could be a good topic. I’ll keep it in mind 🫡
@@DiturisElite I'll check out the weapons video. Thanks!
Excellent work
In my experience, I have found Deep Charge to be a wasted experimental effect throughout the classes - it provides usually just half a better lightyear of maximum jump range however it drastically cuts total jump range on a single fuel tank, typically between 4 - 10ly, sometimes this can be the difference between reaching a station or next scoopable star.
With deep charge, it has a 60.58ly max jump range, with a total range of 239.17
Mass manager on the other hand has a max range of 60.33ly (so it loses only 0.25ly range) and a total range of 264.28ly, that's 25.11ly difference on total range.
The deep charge wisdom was misunderstood and doesn't actually provide any good benefit.
Thanks for the instructions!

Great video thanks, super clear and easy to understand. Very helpful.
Excellent video. Just goes to show that every day can be a school day lol

Marvelous.
Good work CMDR 👍🏽
Found this advice elsewhere, but seeing as it was stumping me thought I'd drop it here. Wake Scanner only works with hardpoints deployed.
It should be noted that the RNG has been removed from engineering entirely in recent-ish updates. As such they are now far more definite, and you won't end up with the situation described at 8:19.
If you exit with a Maverick suit and cut the racks open ,you get 6 containers instead of 1! ☝🏼
Pre-engineered SCO FSDs with Increased Range + Fast Boot were introduced as a Community Goal reward when Titan Cocico went vulnerable. Maybe these will become available at tech brokers?
Well presented
Man! This videos title is gonna become archic if the new revealed ship turns out to be a Large exploration vessel that allows the Size 8 FSD
Tbh I desperately hope it is
Unlocking engineers is such a PITA.
grade 5 with drag drives and garudian frame shift drive addition.
Fdev increased the material gathering amount by a lot. U can gather grade 5 encoded within 2 minutes
inara is still up? I've always been discouraged from getting back into ED because i thought i heard they closed down
Inara is still up, EDDB has closed down.
Should put the new material requirements in the description since the engineering update a few days ago.
Oh? I wasn’t aware they’d changed, I’ve been away from my desk for a while.
Having looked it up, I can’t find anything about changed material costs. Could you talk me through what you mean, if you don’t mind? 🙃🫡
@@DiturisEliteEngineering rolls are no longer RNG-based, rather depending on your reputation it's a fixed amount of rolls to get to the next level
Sorry thought it was the same as the suits, definitely makes it easier with the new system
If I have a second ship with another FSD, will I have to do the grinding all over again?
It is the best FSD but still lot of work to do to get the best possible jump range :) (guardian booster, D rating the other stuff and lightweight engineering of some other stuff). The g-booster and D-rating is essential so you can still have srv on 70ly DBX without much of the anoying grind.

i used mass manager always no matter of the size... deep charge was always there? or that is something new? need to play with calculator. never considered other options
BTW, had NO engineers in my 'list' and still don't...
Your reply is the issue here. You need to hear of Elvira even to see her base.
For that you’ll need to travel at least 300ly from the start system. This can be annoying, but you’ll use Elvira for so many upgrades down the line 🫡

Will a Guardian FSD Booster work with an SCO drive ? =] And thanks again Cmdr Dituri for another AWESOME video - always love watching your content =D
the fsd booster will work with any drive for frame shift wether it being sirius (old) or the sco new variant. the new drives just have a higher mass optium and multiplier with the overcharge. good luck hope it helped.
Thanks so much @@aioshan653 ! So presumably a Guardian FSD Booster would bump the jump range even _further_ =D
@@Cmdr_Amethyst a size 5 is a 10 ly or a lil close to it in boost for the guardian equipment. It is also a 1 unlock for all sizes same for the distributor and power plants sometimes even those are useful until you can engineer something.

Well done!
Can you make a video on unlocking the permit for shinrarta dezhra? (getting elite rank in one field)
Also with new update it is guaranteed tiers as long as you have the mats. Question dituri is there a coriolois or ship build of your 90ly setup?
The experimental effect wich one one should i use deep charge? My anaconda goes 46 ly years on grade 5 so why the f... is it not 90 ly like on the video? Explain me.
Now throw a guardian FSD Booster at it and use neutron stars on galmap for those extra sprints!

Or did I miss something?

@@RebirthOfTheGods What do this systems have to do with what I asked/stated above? ^^
Nothing I've been able to do makes any engineer show up in the engineers bookmarks.
Had to manually search for all of them online.
did any of this change with the update to engineering material drops?
I don't know what changed but reddit seemed to like the change.
one still need the guardian booster to get the 90ly your video front page advertises.
...and all your ship's modules engineered/configured to be as lightweight as possible.
Share your edsy/coriolis build...
Today i learned you can use boost while in FSD
Only if you have a SCO FSD.
so, is this better than the pre-engineered 5a with mass-manager and lvl5 range?
i already get 273.9 with neutron jet on my DBX...
Yep, it’s marginally better. The range boost is small, but since it lets you overcharge the SCO as well it’s worth it for most CMDRs 🫡
The Alcor FSD's still slightly outperform these new drives, they get my conda to 90LY jump range :p
i have colonia cg fsd. with mass manager. this fsd better my fsd?
how much credits will this cost?
at 5:44 when you target and lock that system what did you use? I'm always using the galazxy or system map and havent seen that before
That’s just a cut I’m afraid. In between shots I parked the SRV, and (with galaxy map) plotted course for Ross 444

I did a grind for this for hours, showed up, and can only do the grade 1 modification because it didnt rank up the engineer...
What is a good anaconda build that’s good at both exploration and combat
wait for the new mandalay
I'm not getting the message from elvira is this only for odyssey? I'm on PC
As long as you get 300ly+ away from there, it should work 🫡
Nice and succinct.
Uh, 1:47 is where you lost me. All my bookmarks are greyed out?
how do you find this out on your own? i mean, everything.
Yeh, It’s not great game design 😅🫡
I cant find the SCO drive on console. I have access to jameson memorial. Not in the anaconda. Pre engineered version is the best i can get at a max of 87.32
Sorry mate - as I said at the start, the SCO drive is currently available to PC players only. Nice range though 🫡
NEW New Best FSD when?
