This was satirized by Saturday Night Live in a spoof ad called "Network Battle of the T's and A's" which promoted the show as "the biggest T's....the nicest A's" as images of running and cycling women flashed on the screen. How this got by the censors, I can't imagine but it was an open secret that much of Hollywood was going bra-less.

In the sixties and seventies going braless wasn’t that big a deal. Women’s rights were at their highest and there were many bra burning parties. Almost every young woman had at least one halter or tube top. In the eighties it became some type of fashion thing to wear them with a bra and straps showing. Then came shelf bras, halter bras, crisscross strap bras. I still only wear a bra if I have to and they don’t sag to my navel. And I don’t have the neck, shoulder, and back pain I have when I wear one. Second thing I take off when I get home…shoes, then bra.
My wife had to go to the doctor and he told her she needed a bra... she tried for about three days and then I saw her with her purse in hand an some bra's hanging out of it... her reply was if they are so important, then he can wear the damn things... her chest is just as perky as she was at fourteen as she claims they just happened. She is now sixty eight, and one of her finest features is not only going braless, a shear top is sometimes her choice of appearance. I am quite proud of her decisions and never doubt her ideas... she is the happy one... she also encouraged the daughters to do the same once out of school.. seems to be daughter like mom

Its disrespectful to refer to Bette Davis as a sex symbol, Yes Bette had the looks to be considered a sex symbol, However Bette made it abundantly clear she didn't wish to be identified by such a designation.
I was trying to think of a flip side to this for guys. What if all men were expected to wear a jock strap? Then, if some pioneer, crazy man, actor decided not to, and everybody thought it was outrageous, I'd probably just say it was his body and his choice, no big deal. I wonder if a jock strap is as uncomfortable as a bra. LOL
As a young man involved in sports, we were told to wear jocks for protection. As most jocks are no more than cloth, I always wondered why they would offer more protection? It was only when I spent some time as a baseball catcher that I was introduced to a cup that was made of hard plastic with soft material edges. It fit into the jock that had a pockets sewn in. Getting smacked by a fouled baseball dead on, softened the blow but still gave one a terrible feeling in the pit of the stomach. But the junk was protected.
@@nickliberto6583 If you had to always wear the cup like women are expected to wear a bra, wouldn't that be uncomfortable? Wouldn't you start to resent being expected to wear it all the time?
We are talking about morals, if men had see through shorts with no underwear on is that ok. Quit sugar coating things, if women go braless you are asking for trouble, end of story
As far as I know Carrie Fisher had no reluctance going braless in Star Wars, where she was reluctant however was wearing the slave-girl outfit in Return of the Jedi in the scenes with Jabba.
Just for info, Kate Jackson has never went without a bra contrary to the story. Jacqueline Smith did once in a while in season one. Farrah did quite often. After Farrah left after season one, the bras were on from then on out for all the actresses. Maybe that is why season one was the best ratings? I'd have to see those old stars myself in a movie to believe they ever went without, and Brady Bunch, if they went without it was with a coat on to cover up any signs.

One of the crew was an engineer designed a structure to support them - the actor found it comfortable and the industry was born... As Jennifer says wear what you want...
An alternate theory is that the bra is a more comfortable alternative to the corset.
But, before the bra, there was the corset, the teddy, and before then ... ?
@@nomadpi1 I believe just wrapping bands of cloth around the upper torso.
@@JeffDeWitt so peta invented the bra to stop the leopard skin wrap? I've always been partial to the bare skin rug myself.
All you ladies should be proud

If Maureen McCormick wanted to show that she was all grown up after the Brady Bunch ended she could've posed for Playboy.
Carrie Fisher actually believed this...
she didn’t. she had a paycheck hanging over her and acquiesced to the man who signed it. as per usual in most circumstances. so STFU.
It is totally up to the woman what she wears.
Ok trouble you shall have
I wear one at all times except when showering. I have no interest in playing hockey with these or peeling them off my stomach after a hot day.

Elizabeth Montgomery- On Bewitched, Season 5, she started skipping the Bra in support of the women's Movement
Jennifer Aniston is not carry anything for the legends and screen giants of Hollywood's greatest age, The true legends of Hollywood have been gone for decades and yet their legends and their stars loom over Hollywood much bigger, much more impactful and much brighter than any alleged big name of today. The "stars" of today will never have the everlasting legacies of the legends of Hollywood's greatest age.
Kristal, I don't think Hollywood would let any of the blond bomb shell do any kind of acting except being trashing on film, sad that they excepted those degrading parts on film.
The show "One day at a time" pokies were the only reason I could stand to watch that show.
1. So I guess Marcia Brady herself isn’t the first one to not wear a bra during a shows run. I guess it started with Clara Bow.

Hey, thank you for the nice ideas! We'll look into it. 👍
Keep it up women!!! Your doing great work
But prior to the bra was the corset, the teddy, the...? A thing I've wondered about, I remember reading, long ago, that a dress fashion, the "empire waist," was designed for French women to go bare bosomed during Napoleon's reign. Regardless, I, like other men, like to see braless women hither and yon, no matter their age, or cup size. For all the foot-stamping fem-sexists decrying masculine attention, remember, we males have the "girl watching " gene, no matter what our age. I'm nearly 80 years old, and I still watch 'em all! Hail, Hail Rock 'n Roll.
The only good thing about Feminisms was ditching the bra... that and pole dancing for exercise 😁👍
I approve of this message!
Thanks for watching! We're so glad you enjoyed this video. What other types of videos would you like to see?
I was a kid in the 70's and the whole braless thing wasn't just Hollywood. It started with the hippies and then the womens lib gals did the whole burn the bra thing. Mid 70's to about 1982 seemed to be the "peak" of the braless time. I remember even freinds of my MOM going without bras, and at the time didn't seem to be a big deal. Wish it would have lasted juuuussst a little longer. LOL! All seriousness I could give a rats patooty if a woman wants to wear a bra or not. It's her body and as long as it appropriate for whatever situation she is in.... whatever.
Those days I hardly noticed and if I did, My wife would give me a whack in the head.
I can remember when I had a very tight butt from working out for 20 years and I had some women touch or grab my butt is that appropriate
@@lenobrien2005 Generally, people are uncomfortable if anything suddenly touches their butt. For example you are in a store and need to bend down to reach something . Someone means to go around you but accidently brushes against you. Pure defensive reaction as if it is an attack from behind.
Women are more sexual than I thought when I was a kid. If only I had known, I would not have just married the first girl that took a shine to me. She's not so great. Violent in fact. Damn.

I can't get an answer from cops if they need a female to search a bra holster.
It took me a week to figure out the name of the Flash Bang holster. Flash the bra, bang the gun. It never sunk in till I watched a video of it.

Don't forget every actress under 50 on The Love Boat...seemed like no women wore bras on that show.
This is my favorite topic. I can talk intelligently about bras & such all day👀 God luv me
I never hardly wear a bra I had cancer l was 55. When I got to radiation my doctor told me the were spectacular 😀. Most people didn’t no. I wasn’t born to the bra. George makes perfect sense 👽👽
Thanks for watching!
Totally agree. If they want a man they want to notice, it's ok, but if they have no interest in him they want to file charges
And if men don't show interest then gay or hostile to female sexually b.s is as b.s does.
The famous Jayne Mansfield/Sophia Loren is from a series of photos. It was a publicity stunt by Mansfield who was literally bouncing around, deliberately flopping and spilling out of her dress. Sophia Loren was appalled, but that one timeless photo is what Mansfield and her publicist were after.
Good video
There was a special honoring George Lucas a while back. Carrie Fisher was one of the speakers and she mentioned that George had told her there were no bras in space. She was lamenting that apparently he had not mentioned it to Natalie Portman (Daisy Ridley not having adopted the "hot Star Wars chick" mantle yet).
@Mick Lenno I grew up with younger sisters.. I, born in the late forties had one job.. protect your sisters and that I took pleasure in... they knew how far to push that envelope. Not because they were my sisters, they were little brick outhouses! They found the girl I married an she like my sisters were some fine looking real estate. I miss those days as when they outgrew the great look of girls, they went to pants and I just hate pants on women who want to look like men. I understand work related but come on... I never heard the folks complain about the girls appearances either. Some ladies of this time were more daring than others but still men respected them... I never complained till the pants they were wearing would show a birthmark because of how tight they are
Marlo Thomas was the first to go braless in "That Girl"!
Great info! Thank you for sharing. 😉
She was the first to go braless in "That girl"? What do you mean? That no other actress appearing in That Girl was braless until after Marlo was?
Man i love your vids but the old voice made the videos better
No I didn't know about the George Lucas data that is mentioned above.
I can tell you as a male nothing makes me madder than beautiful women that refuse to wear bras on screen. I just dare them to try that.

What kind of individual compiles a video like this? The pictures, and clips are out there. But why put such a thing together? I mean who would put the time in?
Its disrespectful to refer to Bette Davis as a sex symbol, Yes Bette had the looks to be considered a sex symbol, However Bette made it abundantly clear she didn't wish to be identified by such a designation.
I understand she had attitude and moxy, but sex appeal?

I was trying to think of a flip side to this for guys. What if all men were expected to wear a jock strap? Then, if some pioneer, crazy man, actor decided not to, and everybody thought it was outrageous, I'd probably just say it was his body and his choice, no big deal. I wonder if a jock strap is as uncomfortable as a bra. LOL
Thanks for watching!
@@lenobrien2005 You are suggesting that we are asking for what? Assault? Your analogy is not what I ever suggested. Be real!
