What ASO did was mechanically simulate actual game play... The mallet = 50 line drives, the weighted ball = 50 high pop flys, the weight to the outside = 50 rough grounders, rolling the web and heel = flexing open and close the hand, the hot water = a sweaty hand... the idea is to replicate/simulate actual game play in order to speed up the initial break in period... Hope this provides a little perspective in how to go about breaking in a new glove. (the numbers used are purely speculative, but you get the idea) :)

It softens up the glove, and also allows the glove to conform to your hand. I've been breaking in gloves for years. The best way to fully break in a good glove is using it, using it, and using it some more. Play catch with someone every day for about an hour, then do long-tosses and pop up drills.

Both sides of the pocket works well, fold each side and beat the crap out of it. Then pound the shit out of the pocket itself.
Like he said in the vid, use warm water to form the glove to your hand and soften the leather.
The best way to break in a glove though is to use it, use it, and use it some more. Find a friend to play catch with for a few weeks.
